  1. I don't call BJ a 'miss'. He had a long, very servicable career. 2300 hits, 34 WAR, 1100 RBI. He wasn't a superstar, but he was good enough to hang around 19 years and compile a good (not great) war. Was he worthy of a #1 pick? No, probably not, but a lot of #1 picks don't even stick for 5 years. I was always a Surhoff fan. I think we could go all day on prospects that never scratched the big leagues, so maybe I read the OP wrong. I picked BJ not because he was a bust, not at all, but because he never was a true star like most everyone assumed he would become. As I mentioned, I was a huge fan of his. However, his time with Milwaukee, in particular, was pretty meh. Then, there is this list: http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round&draft_round=1&year_ID=1985 thought it was really interesting that 85, 86 and 87 the brewers picked a SS with their 1st overall (Surhoff, Sheffield, Spiers)
  2. From twitter, Wily Peralta leaves after 4 innings with left side tightness. Michael Blazek on to pitch, leading 10-0. #MILvsATL
  3. I dont know either, he finished the 2013 season with a 2.70 ERA, 3.58 FIP, 11.3 K/9, and 28 saves.
  4. i thought pine tar ejections was an automatic 10 game suspension
  5. SERIES WIN!!!!!!! IF ONLY WE HADNLT LET THE PIRATES ROLL OVER US IN APRIL THIS WOuLD BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT RIGHT NOW!!!!
  6. You think Segura to 2B? I think when he returns Sardinas goes back to AAA to keep getting regular at bats (only 21 right?) and they keep Hector/Ellian at 2B.
  7. Knebel to MLB roster, excited to see how he does!!
  8. INF Luis Sardinas is being recalled from AAA to take the spot of SS Jean Segura
  9. fractured pinky finger on his right hand for Mean Jean Segura @Brewers SS Jean Segura has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right fifth (pinky) finger, retroactive to 5/13
  10. thats awesome! glad to see he's getting back on the field!
  11. I realize that Lind is probably gone this summer, but MAN, is it nice to have a productive 1B both on the field and at bat for a change.
  12. sand, meet head. He was a 42 year old notorious jerk, who was tied up in the Balco federal investigation. Excuse me for noting that as an owner I wouldn't want that personality in my clubhouse. Heck look at the stink people on this board made about Papelbon last winter. Bonds makes Papelbon look like an angel. Not to mention I wouldnt want FBI agents snooping around the franchise. That collusion lawsuit is ripe for a 12(b)(6) motion, it deserves to go the way of the lawsuit Ryan Braun's old friend filed accusing Braun of fraud. so was jason giambi, (the Balco case, not the jerk) and he played on until 2014. and if Federal investigations are a reason to not hire someone as a baseball player, well the whole Biogenesis thing didnt seem to hurt anyones career, so I cant imagine that Balco, which only affected TWO MLB players, was THAT much to worry about FBI snooping.
  13. exactly. If someone doesnt get elected by fan vote it'll be the best bullpen arm to represent the team
  14. YUP! NEVER LOSE HOPE!
  15. I dunno, NL OF is pretty hot right now... Stanton, Marte, Harper, Upton, Pederson, Holliday, etc.
  16. sand, meet head.
  17. because I was curious... Bonds is the all time Walks leader with 2,558... 400 more than Ricky Henderson and Babe Ruth... and TWICE as many as the next active player, Arod at 1257. I mean... that is unreal. I realize there was a stretch of 8 years where everyone avoided pitching to Barry... but still!
  18. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bondsba01.shtml those numbers for age 41 and 42... 247 WALKS in 2 seasons compared to 105 strike outs. unbelievable patience
  19. I am with you on that. 42 years old and still hit 28 hrs? He would have still been able to play DH for a year or two
  20. DONT SELL DONT SELL JUST WIN WIN WIN! DONT SELL DONT SELL JUST WIN WIN WIN! DONT SELL DONT SELL JUST WIN WIN WIN!
  21. Barry Bonds Preparing Grievance Action For Collusion By Jeff Todd [May 11, 2015 at 11:06pm CDT] Controversial all-time great slugger Barry Bonds is going ahead with a case against Major League Baseball alleging that he was colluded against following the 2007 season, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Bonds recently had an obstruction of justice conviction overturned, which apparently spurred the effort to proceed against MLB. Bonds will reportedly assert that the league conspired to keep him from returning to action after the 2007 season. The home run king never found a new team after reaching free agency. 2007 was his age-42 campaign, so he was obviously past his prime, but Bonds still managed to slash an obviously productive .276/.480/.565 with 28 home runs over 477 plate appearances that year for San Francisco. Heyman writes that Bonds’ camp waited until after resolution of his successfully-challenged felony conviction to pursue a collusion claim. The topic was covered at length here at MLBTR at the time: Bonds’ reputation was in tatters, and there were health questions. Nevertheless, given his unrivaled productivity even at an advanced age — he led the league in OBP in 2007 and five of the six seasons before it — it remained rather remarkable that he did not receive a single offer that offseason (per his agent, Jeff Borris). That has led to various suggestions that Bonds was effectively blacklisted across the league. As is mandated by the CBA, Bonds’ issue would first be addressed by the grievance process. Bonds appears to be working with the MLBPA on the case. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, MLBPA head Tony Clark, and Borris all are said to have declined Heyman’s requests for comment.
