  1. what an unfortunate last couple of years for him.
  2. Can they afford him? the pirates have more money than they know what to do with, but he's said the pirates are the last team he'd sign with right now, so my money is him not coming back to pittsburgh.
  3. That's pretty much where i'm at While 3 million seems maybe a bit pricey, if K-Rod had gotten 2 million instead of 3, would it really matter much in the grand scheme of things for the payroll this year? Plus, his K/BB ratio was really good last year, so if he pitches well and the team struggles, by being only owed around 1.5 million at the deadline, maybe he could be flipped again for a prospect. My only real beef with the money is i'd probably rather spend that on some young Latin free agents and hope to hit big, thus adding to our pretty bleak farm system. Then again, in today's exploding salary structure, 3 million dollars is practically nothing well looks like Melvin is doing both, and spending that money equally on the two.
  4. does anyone remember Chicos? my dad used to take us there all the time when we were in town visiting family. best ribs ever.
  5. I think the brewers front office has been getting better with their multi-year FA signings: Suppan Wolf Loshe Garza I mean, it shows top free agent pitchers wanting to sign in milwaukee. we dont have to sign players like Suppan who had one good year anymore. we can get pitchers who have sustained success
  6. it means one season, from opening day to the end of the regular season, it does not include spring training. Also, my understanding is that it does not bridge over one year to the next
  7. No, 130 DL days over a 183 day period. and 183 day period is the length of one contract year, so any contract year, if he misses 130+ games the brewers option drops to $1 million
  8. all reported by @joelsherman1 on twitter just now Garza deal: 5th year option, Brewers can opt out at $5million, but becomes $1million if Garza spends 130 days on the DL in 183-paid period for various injuries during ANY of the 4 seasons Garza can vest at $13 million if: 1- starts 110 games during contract plus 2- not on DL at end of '17 regular season plus 3- 115 IP in '17 season Garza paid $12.5 million per year from 2014 - 2017 with $2 mil deferred without interest each year plus in each year he can earn $500k for 30games started and 190IP
  9. Garza is going to be bombarded by bunts in spring training
  10. I mean, it makes sense, theres no reason to waste time snagging a guy from RK/A- ball unless you think he's got a legit chance to crack the team and contribute.
  11. has ramirez ever said he'd be open to 1B? or does that even matter?
  12. shaun marcum wasnt a free agent signing, he was traded dave bush wasnt a free agent signing, he was traded chris capuano wasnt a free agent signing, he was traded
  13. booyah! thankfully it was just contract/vesting language!
  14. I think Taillon follows Cole, wont be up until June. I think thats the thought of most Pirates people/fans here in pittsburgh, no one is expecting him to come in day 1 in the rotation. plus, they signed Edison Volquez, so he'll get a shot in the rotation before Taillon does
  15. [sarcasm]everything was probably good to go until Doug asked him if he's ever played first base before[/sarcasm]
  16. makes me wonder if the distribution is because there is some sort of medical clause in the contract, or vesting option based on number of innings pitched where it would benefit the brewers more to backload it
  17. honestly, that makes me feel MUCH better than anthing that could potentially deal with medical information
  18. well melvin is pretty tight lipped about any deal, right? so it could be he put the end to any information being leaked
  19. I wasnt aware of foamboys accuracy from his friend, my mistake!
  20. no offense to you or your friend, but i'll believe Adam McCalvy before your buddy
  21. wonder if that 4th year is an option/vesting year, I read most teams were not willing to go past 3 years, so im wondering if the brewers were offering 3 years with a 4th year option but it got reported as 4 years
  22. I mean... this was the first post indicating Garza/Brewers, and it WAS posted today.... so tomorrow is the 24th!
  23. since terms have yet to be revealed its probably related to no movement clauses and monies paid out per year and other contract terms like that (maybe even performance bonuses/option years/etc)
  24. wonder who would end up being removed if Reynolds/Overbay are added for 1B depth
