  1. Right, because that's exactly what I said. Nice strawman argument. No, but nothing you did say is defensible. Let's take your statements one by one: Molitor is a hypocrite: A hypocrite is someone who accuses someone else of doing something the accuser himself has done. If Molitor had said "We should condemn A-Rod because, at some point in his life, he used a prohibited drug," then he would be a hypocrite. Of course, that isn't what Molitor said. He called A-Rod out for using a specific drug that, in Molitor's (and most people's) view, allowed him to cheat at baseball. In addition, Molitor used cocaine as a very young man for a relatively brief period, figured out the error of his ways, admitted his mistake, and moved on. It's apples and oranges. No hypocrisy here. "Part of the criteria for being in the HOF is 'character'": No it isn't: http://baseballhall.org/hall-famers/rules-election/bbwaa. Even if it were, a lot of HOFers have severe and well-documented character flaws, so the character criterion would be meaningless. Molitor is a "douchebag": The statement doesn't deserve a response; it indicts itself and you. I will say that, the one time I was involved in corresponding with Molitor, he was gracious and generous. Molitor was a coke addict: This is the one statement in your post that has an element of truth to it. According to this account of his former agent's book, Molitor called his condition at the end of 1980 an addiction: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1499&dat=19930927&id=q6IaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=xSwEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6480,4539171. Apparently he quit cold turkey and didn't require treatment, so I'm not sure a physician would have considered him an addict. Your statement is still misleading, I'll assume inadvertently, because your lack of qualification suggests that Molitor was a coke addict in general. In fact he appears to have used cocaine only during part of 1979 and all of 1980 and to have developed a serious problem only in the later part of that span. The judgmental tone of your statement, while it's your prerogative, strikes me as extremely harsh, given that Molitor was a very young man, under a lot of pressure, in an era when cocaine use was rampant in sports and society; quit when he realized the problem was out of his control; and grew up. Overall, you couldn't have written a less truthful, more corrosive post if you had tried. wow, well said, thank you for addressing those points!
  2. yep, and along that note, it would make sense if Garza's contract was backloaded for that very reason (Yo and Weeks next year, Aram in two years)
  3. done deal
  4. $13m a year? and not losing a first rd pick for a 30 year old SP? im into that
  5. @JP_Breen : Theory: #Brewers are pursuing Matt Garza on a minor-league deal under the assumption that he'll transition to first base
  6. Nez Balelo (aka, Brauns agent)
  7. I feel like Overbay is just a injury protection/awful performance in ST signing. I cannot really imagine the brewers going into the season with four 1B options with Morris/Rogers in AAA waiting, at the end of March I think the brewers will grant FA to either Reynolds or Overbay. I cant really imagine they'd give up on Juan Francisco, who they traded for and have under controlled costs for another two years, that quickly. im sure this was mentioned before in the 3 pages, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.
  8. 1) Children are going to watch/hear/talk about sports. That's a fact. 2) Children are going to emulate their favorite athletes. That's also a fact. 3) Many children are going to participate in sports. It's not really about relying on athletes to set examples. I'm not sure if you have children or not, but I sure wouldn't want mine thinking that cheating to get ahead in sports is acceptable. Nor would I want them doing harmful things to their own bodies. And yes, if professional athletes do it, it's more likely to be accepted by kids. These are illegal substances here. We're not talking about Braun smoking a cigarette. Where does one draw the line on that kind of activity? And telling a parent that they're raising their children wrong is about the worst and least tactful thing you can say to a parent. Even if there might be elements of truth in it at times. First off, I don't have kids. I was raised to play, follow, watch, love, and emulate my favorite athletes. I was a huge Paul Molitor fan. I have never done cocaine. Why? Because my parents taught me right and wrong, and they taught me that there are consequences for your actions. If my (future) child was a good enough athlete and thought they had a legitimate chance to set their entire family up for life by using steroids, I would tell them to know the consequences, both physical and the worst case if they got caught, and to do what they wanted. Would I let my 14 year old take steroids? No way. Would I inject my kids with an HGH perscription? Heck no. Again, I think we have a huge group of amazingly smart people here, and I'm not trying to offend, even though I know my comments rub a lot of people the wrong way. I just feel as though this idea that kids are going to use steroids because of Ryan Braun is pretty absurd. Kids have been using steroids for 30 years, because they are misinformed of the consequences and/or the benefits, or they simply do not care. Heck, 90210 (!!) had an episode about it 22 YEARS ago. http://90210.wikia.com/wiki/A_Competitive_Edge great use of a 90210 reference!
  9. nail in morris' coffin? over-reacting much? its a one year deal!
  10. Mark Reynolds produced 0.4 fWAR in 2013, or exactly 5.0 WAR more than all 2013 Brewers 1B. — Jack Moore (@jh_moore) January 17, 2014
  11. if he makes the team we'll have 2 former pirate SP-now-RP, if only we could get Maholm and complete the trio
  12. he has hit .275/.373/.569 in 15 career games in Miller Park, against brewers pitching, but I like the chances of him matching up with equal or worse pitchers at home and being productive
  13. a wisconsin judge is allowing 5 (of the 12) counts against Braun stand in the Sasson suit, and he has no plans to settle and wants to take Braun, Balelo and Creative Artists Agency to trial.
  14. he also had an early injury and had his legal problems on top of the WBC. the start of 2013 was not good for Yo at all, cant see that repeating itself
  15. theres a reason they claimed that kid from the pirates, I really hope they figure out a way to keep him if he lives up to the potential they saw in him when they claimed him off rule 5. im with Soup on his 25-man, barring any injuries, I think this is how the team looks on opening day Rotation: Lohse, Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada, Thornburg Bullpen: Henderson, Kintzler, Smith, Gorzelanny, Figaro, Wang (Rule V guy), Burgos Lineup: C-Lucroy 1B-Francisco 2B-Gennett SS-Segura 3B-Ramirez LF-Davis CF-Gomez RF-Braun Bench: 2B-Weeks, C-Maldy, IF-Bianchi, OF-Schafer, 1B/OF-Halton
  16. gotta think he's far down the callup list should we have a string of injuries at the MLB level. weird depth signing, to me, since the Brewers are pretty solid in terms of depth at OF (especially with 1B prospects potentially being put in the OF at AAA to get AB time)
  17. how many innings did he pitch in the world classic? he pitched 29 1/3 before hitting the DL, another 36 2/3 in MiLB after recovering, and now 38 2/3 in winter league. I agree he should probably just lay low until mid/late feb, thats a fairly healthy amount of innings considering his injury
  18. definitely not a bad pickup as a AAA depth signing!
  19. I like that post! I am of the party that thinks that 1B should stay with JF/Halton. Didnt Halton play in AAA in 2011 and 2012? I dont think he needs more AAA time, he needs to be in the majors, even if only off the bench, we need to see what he can do, he's 26, if he flounders in 2014 it opens the door for Morris in late 14 or 2015. I think Halton is in Milwaukee to stay unless he gets hurt or traded.
  20. the brewers are more likely to keep Aram than sign chase headley in 2015.
  21. except Youk is 35 and on his way to Japan
  22. John Jaha is going to be honored.
  23. Honestly Turbo, while it doesn't make it better for our beloved Brewers, I have found that with the economics of baseball saince 1995, it makes some sense to be a casual fan of a major market. For me I was born in Southern California which has always made me a casual fan of the Dodgers. Like I said, while it doesn't help the Brewers cause, it has helped me as a fan to fall back on a major market team that doesn't have the severe limitations of our Brewers. Just trying to help... I grew up in a small town in northwestern PA and was surrounded by the Indians and Pirates, I will never understand anything but severe limitations
  24. I think if the Brewers are serious about trading Weeks, signing Michael Young could end up being a 1B/2B platooner. I mean, he can play all of the IF spots. I dont think he'd be a terrible signing, could still get 100+ games playing as backup for 1B, 2B and 3B.
