  1. it makes complete sense if the Brewers will only sign former NL Central starting pitchers.
  2. I would too. Simmons is a virtual automatic 3.8WAR based on his defense alone. Anything offensive he puts on top of that is icing. About the safest bet at SS you can find. I've also read some accounts that say he could be BETTER than Ozzie Smith as he has a stronger arm. Time will tell. I'd take that over a guy who's probably going to be moved to 2B and may lose a step or two; really knocking his value. but... [sarcasm]does he do backflips?[/sarcasm]
  3. I dont know if I can remember another world series that was sloppier than this one. I mean... this is pretty bad. game 5 ending on a pick off? game 3 ending on obstruction? COME ONNNNNNNNNN
  4. yeah, I mean, I think it was fairly well known that the Brewers were going to exercise that option regardless if Aoki is in the plans for the 2014 roster. That option is what makes him so appealing for other teams
  5. since last years FA arms thread hit 500 posts, figured it would be time to post a new one for 2014. Granted, it LOOKS like we have 5 or 6 internal options for the rotation, its always fun to see whose out there and think what-if's and all that jazz. also, could look at other bullpen options, but I think it'll be more interesting to see where some of these arms go, and for how much since The Freak got paid big time. 6. You may have missed my post earlier in this thread. If Sanchez doesn't re-sign a minor league deal for 2014 shortly with Milwaukee, he's a minor league free agent five days after the World Series. The ball is in Sanchez' court, with quite a bit of leverage, too. He'll find a nice AAA deal elsewhere unless the Brewers can entice him. i did miss that, thanks for reposting that info
  7. yes . . . except fiers was never transferred to the 60-day disabled list (even though he could have been). weeks and hart have to be activated, but hart is expected to declare free agency. braun and de los santos will have to be removed from the restricted list and placed back on the 40-man. oh wow, so they went all season with Fiers on the 40-man? or was he DFA'd when he was sent down to the Minors in May?
  8. I understand that Lincecum made it known he wanted more, but would he have gotten more? Seems like the Giants could've saved a little by going the QO route. But again, it's not my money so they can offer whatever they want. yes, he would have definitely gotten more than 1 year when he hit the free agent market. Maybe not $35 million for 2 years, but im sure someone would have offered $28/2 just to beat the Giants 14/1 QO.
  9. I'm surprised by this too. But I'm only going by stats. Perhaps the team just doesn't see him making the transition from AAA to the big leagues. That said, he's only been pitching for four years (he was a catcher prior to being moved to the mound), and really seemed to blossom when moved to relieving two years ago. He had the 16th best ERA in the PCL last year (47 minimum innings pitched). And his splits are dramatic. A .692 OPS .vs lefties and a .648 OPS vs. righties. His 2012 splits are even better - lefties had a .554 OPS while righties had a .571 OPS. I guess I'd rather take a risk on a guy like Sanchez rather than invest $2 million in Badenhop. But again, maybe the Brewers know something about Sanchez that we don't. I figured that brewers mgmt know something we dont. also, just because he was removed from the 40-man doesnt mean he WILL get claimed in the rule 5 draft, so he could still be in the system come January, and could earn a spot on the 40-man in March. if im not mistaken they need to clear people off the 40 for when players come back off the 60-day DL or get resigned (Weeks, Hart, Braun, Fiers, etc), right?
  10. if they offer a QO that is all the Giants can sign him to, a 1 year deal for $14.1 million. Lincecum made it known he wanted more than that, at least 2 years, so regardless what he'd have gotten on the market, he wanted 2 years or more, and you cannot give that once you extend a qualified offer, and the Giants wanted to keep him no matter what, so they gave him what he wanted
  11. Giants signed a declining Lincecum to an insane $35 million dollar contract for 2 years. unreal. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9864620/tim-lincecum-agrees-two-year-contract-san-francisco-giants
  12. thats awesome, good for him!
  13. my dad gave me his old braves stuff from the 60's, got some pennants hanging in my basement with my other sports stuff. he told me he "gave up" on baseball when the braves left until the Brewers arrived.
  14. there wont be a salary cap because the MLBPA is the most powerful union in sports and they will never vote to restrict the potential income their members could earn. it has nothing to do with the mass amounts of money New York makes for Baseball... there are plently of other teams who are more than willing to shell out enormous contracts to players they deem worth it, not just the Yankees.
  15. You don't want to wake up nobody," Beltran said you cant wake up nobody because theres nobody to wake up
  16. dony worry guys, Carpenter and LaRussa may be gone, but Beltran and Wainright are keeping it going http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/stl/st-louis-cardinals-take-issue-with-los-angeles-dodgers-celebrations?ymd=20131015&content_id=62962860&vkey=news_stl
  17. if Tom Keeling brought back Juan Francisco, i'd think Aoki could bring back someone of decent value...
  18. No, I'm not going to be personally upset if he doesn't call me and, as usual, you missed the point of my post. Oh okay.
  19. are you REALLY going to be that upset if he doesnt call you? does it really even matter?
  20. "We'd say that we are glad that Juan Uribe sent this team of ninnies home for the season, if not for that fact that Brian McCann will surely spend his offseason haranguing neighborhood children for not having properly shined shoes."
  21. http://deadspin.com/report-braves-players-boycotted-chipper-joness-first-1442463473 braves players boycotted chipper jones. what a bunch of dweebs.
  22. im really sorry I didnt stick this out... there were so many great opportunities the last two months for me to use some really great gifs, I just didnt have the time. but im ready for next season, stockpiling and preparing for 162-gif response!
  23. personally, I was hoping for a pirates/braves NLCS to exorcise the breamons out of the Northshore here in Pittsburgh
  24. DO NOT WANT THAT LEG KICK
  25. trades huntington has made to lead up to this team today (bolded players still on 2013 roster): traded Xavier Nady to NYY for Jose Tabata and Jeff Karstans traded McClouth to ATL for Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke traded Morgan/Burnett to WASH for Hanrahan traded Dotel to LAD for MacDonald and Lambo (huge reason for last years success until JMAc fell apart) Aquired Grilli from the Phillies in August 2011 traded Lincoln to TOR for Chris Snider traded Gorksy Hernandez to MIA for Gaby Sanchez traded three players for Wandy Rodriguez traded hanrahan for Melancon and co. traded for Byrd and Morneau this year for scraps huntington did a great job finding talent in other franchises and aquiring them for players performing above their actual value. and he's done all of this basically since the trade deadline in the 2008 season.
