  1. yes, he signed his contract oin the old CBA, which expired in September 2012. The new CBA, which was why there was a shortened NHL season in 2013, was ratified in January 2013 which limits contract lengths to 7 years. the reason for this was teams were using extra long contracts to circumvent the cap hits on huge contracts, but actually only paying 500k - $1/mil on the final years. example, Kovulchuk signed a 10 year deal/100 mil contract, but the final 3 years were going to pay him 1 mil a year, which lowered the avg cap hit from, which during those years he could retire and remove the caphit on the franchise. so instead of being the avg of 7yr/97 mil it was 10yr/100 mil as the cap hit on the franchise, which I think at that time the salary cap was around 64 million?
  2. yup. seemed to come in to games with RISP and then let them score.
  3. haha i was just posting that but the thread "no longer existed" seems like moving badenhop is to make 40-man roster space
  4. wasn't braun tested more than other players in 2012 because of the results of his 2011 testing? look at the numbers he put in 2012--presumably as a "clean" player. i have confidence that if healthy, braun is going to be an impact player for the club. yes he was, the policy states that any positive test will result in far more random testing following the initial positive test. even though braun wasnt penalized, he still tested positive which set the intense random testing to go into effect for the 2012 season and beyond. theres nothing in the JDA that says its only for one season, so for all we know, he'll constantly be tested far more than other players for multiple years.
  5. yup, and the NHL have contract limits of 7 years along with a very strict salary cap.
  6. there goes one OF spot for the Mets. with incentives, $7.25/mil potential for Young http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/mets-to-sign-chris-young.html
  7. while I dont disagree with this at all, could Gindl end up in RF in place of Aoki?
  8. It's a game of what if. What if the rookie isn't ready to contribute to a World Series contender? What is their fallback option at 3B? What if Ramirez is healthy and returns to his 2011-2012 average of .303/.361/.525, 26 HR 99 RBI line? I am not saying Castellanos will fail, however, with a team built to win in 2014, I would prefer to have Aramis at 3B rather than a rookie, even a rookie with Castellanos limitless potential. While Weeks is definitely a downgrade at 2B from Kinsler, I don't think it's so significant to overlook what a healthy Ramirez could do for that lineup. uh, difference is not about production, difference is Castellanos and Kinsler are locked up with team control for years, Weeks and Ramirez are free agents after 2014. so while maybe Castellanos and Kinsler arent as good next year as weeks/rami (yeah, right), they have 2015, 16 and 17 to be much better than Weeks and Rami.
  9. is there a spot in Seattle of Aoki? do you think Z would be interested in Aoki?
  10. Brewers Won't Trade Ryan Braun By Steve Adams [November 21 at 10:21am CST] Though "four or five clubs" approached Brewers general manager Doug Melvin at the GM Meetings last week to inquire on Ryan Braun's availability, Melvin told the other GMs that Braun isn't available, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports. Melvin addressed trade rumors that have circulated around his embattled outfielder: "We have no intentions of trading Ryan. There's absolutely no truth to that. We've never contacted any team about Ryan." Melvin told Haudricourt that he, manager Ron Roenicke and owner Mark Attanasio had lunch with Braun last week in Los Angeles. There was no talk of trades, and his PED suspension was not a main talking point either. Rather, the Brewers brass met to discuss the upcoming plans for next season and a potential shift to right field for Braun, an idea to which Braun was open. A shift to right field could open up some more at-bats for Khris Davis following an impressive Major League debut, though it could displace Norichika Aoki as well. Haudricourt writes that Aoki could still be used in left field at times in that scenario, however. He also adds that the very fact that the Brewers are discussing Braun's future with him illustrates the fact that he's not likely to be traded this winter. Braun is owed $122MM over the next seven seasons, including a $4MM buyout on his $15MM mutual option for the 2021 season and two remaining annual payments of $2.5MM in 2014 and 2015 as part of the $10MM signing bonus on his most recent extension. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/brewers-wont-trade-ryan-braun.html
  11. For all the success he had, it was only 153 PA, and it's hard to know what he'd do over a full season. In fact I like Gindl, who's really being overlooked, almost as much as Davis. Gindl had almost as many walks (20) as strikeouts (25). Every time I see him take a cut, I see a young Matt Stairs who really didn't blossom until his late 20's. I can see Roenicke doing what he did much of the 2nd half, mixing and matching guys. Gindl batting 2nd, is intriguing. im interested in the idea of Gindl/Davis in LF with Braun in RF and Gomez in CF to start off 2014.
  12. not even close. he's not even 2 strikes away. his suspension was outside of the PED penalty structure, so if he tests and fails again, and he lost in arbitration, he'd be a 1st time offender in terms of penalty, not a 2nd, because he wasnt suspended for failing the test in 2011. the MLBPA will not allow MLB to overstep the penalty structure defined in the CBA/JDA.
  13. Detroit is the bane of the Fielder's existance
  14. wow that is like a video game trade haha
  15. if he makes fewer than 7 starts in 2014 the Padres get a $4/mil option for 2015. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/padres-to-sign-josh-johnson.html
  16. so what youre saying... is he's been on a decline since 2010
  17. paying $11 mil a year for a 39/40 year old SP? yeeesshhhhh
  18. Better yet, maybe they will trade for him. I think a Norichika Aoki and Aramis Ramirez for Domonic Brown deal looks fair. someone get Melvin and Amaro on the phone STAT.
  19. why would you trade the face of the franchise (because lets face it, he still is) at his least-valuable point in his career (after an injury plagued/suspended season)? trading him now reeks of desperation
  20. SHHHHH, let this continue to happen. next year they'll sign Ramirez for a 3 year, 25 mil deal
  21. maybe Goldy would have gotten more 1st place votes, but lets not forget, Cutch led a franchise who hadnt had a winning season in 21 years to the playoffs. I think he'd have still won even if Arizona made the playoffs
  22. Burnett wasnt/isnt looking for a multi-year deal, though. he's been on the radio saying one more year with the pirates or retirement pretty much since the all star break.
  23. thats total BS about the Pirates, they can/could easily take on a 1 year $14.1 mil deal. Burnett, even though the Yankees gave money to the $16 mil he made last year, isnt going to take a $6+ mil pay cut to play one more year in Pittsburgh.
  24. I didnt realize the braves were leasing Turner field. ive heard its a nightmare to get to, so this could make attendance better in the long run, right?
