  1. yeah, I agree with MLB/MLBPA that those players shouldnt be suspended more for the same thing they were already suspended for. it just validates the suspensions they've already received
  2. Melky Cabrera, Bartolo Colon, and Yasmani Grandel tested positive last year and were suspended last year (and part of this year for Grandel). However, they won't be suspended now because of their connections to biogenesis because they were already suspended last year for testing positive. To me if you are going to suspend all these other players because of their "connection", those three guys need to be suspended too. What difference does it make that they served a suspension for testing positive last year. Last year's positive results and this year's "connection" are two separate issues and should be dealt with separately. Huh? So, someone murders someone. They spend 30 years in prison and then they are released. A year after they are released the state finds new evidence that was not used in the original trial reaffirms that the murderer committed the original crime. Based on this "new evidence" they send the murderer back to jail for the same crime. I'm not trying to compare murder to taking PEDs. I'm just saying that what you are saying seems to make just as much sense as the scenario I mentioned. isnt that double jeopardy and not allowed to happen?
  3. really enjoying the fact that thornburg is BETTER his second run in the majors.
  4. Couple of issues with your post -- Nelson and Jungmann are not currently on the 40-man, so we leave them off the discussion for this point. I mentioned yesterday via the Link Report and Twitter that every healthy position player on the 40-man roster has already seen big league action this year. That alone is very rare. So on to the pitchers -- healthy 40-man roster pitchers who have not seen big league action in 2013 are: Pena, Manzanillo, Olmsted, Sanchez. Sanchez should definitely get a look in September. So Pena, Manzanillo, and Olmsted are very likely to be the only healthy players on the 40-man roster in 2013 who don't see big league action, and with a hot August (not trending well), Pena might sneak in as a September call-up. my mistake, thanks for catching that. still, 37 of 40 by the end of the season? thats kind of high, right?
  5. little do we know, MLB investigators found documentation that Ryan Braun had his name changed from Rian Brauntos when he was 11 years old
  6. I've got to agree with this. Their fanbase is so overdue for some genuine excitement. This does not mean I'll be rooting for the Pirates during their last two series with the Brewers, but I'll go right back to rooting for them after September 4. (It's not just that the alternative is STL, either.) I love the pirates are winning (still) for more than the fact that I love baseball, but it also means that radio shows dont have to talk about the steelers until mid august. it RULES.
  7. question, has any team called up every player on their 40-man roster in a season before? I know thats probably hard to know, but i think milwaukee might be close to having 35 - 36 of their 40-man roster playing at least one game before September. Gorzo and Gallardo are both missing their next starts, I think Jimmy Nelson makes one start which would leave the only players to not make it on the MLB level this year to Pena, Junngmann, Nick Bucci, Jesus Sanchez, Manzanillo (injured) and Miguel De Los Santos(missing?). I think come september Sanchez/Jungmann will get called up, maybe Pena.. but man, what a mess of a year.. but at least were getting to see whats in the pipeline in pitching, right?
  8. nope, but he seems to be getting on base alright for not playing all last year.
  9. When they were talking about this on MLB Tonight they said it was because he would be suspended under the "integrity of the game" clause or something like that and you cannot appeal that kind of suspension. yes they can, they can appeal only to the commish, and not to a panel of arbitrators.
  10. Houston has lowered its payroll to $17 million right now, with $5 million of that being paid to Wandy in Pittsburgh. They have a 40-man roster getting paid $11 MILLION DOLLARS with EVERY player but Eric Bedard being still in arbitration years. LOLOLOLOL
  11. thank you for spelling it out like that. I really hope it makes the naysayers of next years team rethink their negative outlook
  12. with the additional WC spot, the non-waiver deadline should be moved to aug 15.
  13. The fact they've won 14 games with the roster they have in July should. Weren't aram and Braun playing with injuries in May?
  14. Outside of a historically bad may, the brewers have been a.500'ish team with all of the injuries they've had. If nothing else changes but getting all of the players back healthy I don't see how you couldn't feel this team is a .500 or better team next year
  15. why? both of those guys have been effective starting pitchers...
  16. oh well
  17. what articles are you talking about, because I didnt read anything about detailed use all the way back to U of M...
  18. Of course he would. Do you know why? He was guilty. So, you're proving the point that Braun would have no reason whatsoever to make a plea deal if he wasn't guilty. I don't understand why you're holding on so strongly to this conspiracy theory. Braun fought this aggressively the last couple years. Why would he just roll over now and ruin his reputation if he wasn't guilty? Google Occam's Razor, I think it applies here. Really? Because he was literally acquitted by a jury. I guess it depends on whether you think there should be procedural safeguards and the consideration of actual evidence before branding somebody guilty, or if the subjective convictions of the Commissioner and a vindictive media are sufficient. I suspect MLB used a similar tactic on Braun as they are now trying on A-Rod. They are reportedly telling him that if he doesn't accept a guilty plea, they're going to pursue a lifetime ban under the "just case" provision of the CBA, which is effectively unappealable: http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-a-rod-steroids-20130730,0,6995037.story#axzz2aXBIv0iH It's not a "conspiracy theory" to recognize pragmatic realities. But yeah, I'm sure Braun would have loved to stake $120M on being able to challenge that somehow, just so Buster Olney wouldn't be more mad at him than he already was. that wont happen. the MLBPA will force there to be arbiters to hear the appeal. Selig assured MLBPA head Michael Weiner he wouldn't use the clause to negate players' rights, which, is exactly what this will do.
  19. yeah? he pitched 22 last season, and looks a million times better this year than last, so...
