  1. says who? He could if he got the reps. He's done it before.
  2. I was trying to say the same thing the other day. and even while Jean Segura, Khris Davis and possibly Hunter Morris are doing well in the minors, I still think they all need at least half a year of AAA before the jump. Yes, I know teams skip AAA all the time and there's not that big of a difference according to a lot of people, but I want to see all of them keep it up for half a year at the AAA level before a bigs call up. There's honestly no hurry for any of them right now sans maybe Segura.
  3. I read on twitter as the trade deadline approached that the Phillies were refusing to absorb any $$$ of his contract. Not sure if that's changed or not, just saying.
  4. or the budget to take on the rest of his contract and still put out a team that can compete.
  5. solid points monty, especially in how you compared how everyone is fine with bringing up minor league pitching but not shedding Hart for Gamel/Aoki. Personally, I'd like to keep all 3, but in the grand scheme of things on a small market team, that doesn't always pan out.
  6. Kind of hard to take too much stock into a 2yr old article. pointless Hart mention - Hart lives in the same neighborhood as my folks. My kids have played with his kids at the playground when my mom was watching my kids. "very nice people" my mom said of Hart's wife and kids. Like I said, I hope Hart stays with the Crew long term. I'd be all about a long term deal with Hart like what Braun got (not as much money obviously) but, again, I don't see how you can argue with the fact that in most cases the $$$ wins. Melvin should try and lockdown Hart now, because like ZG, if he hits the FA market, it's all but over.
  7. so why did you spend so much of that post talking up the possibility of him signing with the Brewers via what LucRoy said, and that he said he likes it here and his disorder and what not? If I type 3 paragraphs on how KRod is a great RP, can I negate all 3 of them as long as I add in "but I don't think he's a great RP"? Why push the point at nausea one way, only to say "but I think it won't happen"?
  8. Nice starts so far for Jean Segura and Johnny Hellweg at Brewers AA Huntville. Segura 7-16 .438 AVG, 4R, 2RBI, and SB in 4 games. Hellweg won his first start yesterday pitching 5 innings with 7 K's and no runs!
  9. nice I'm just going off of what has been said in this thread. Believe it or not, it's tough for me to know what was said on this board before slappzilla, so if there was a significant contingency that want Gamel to get a chance to prove he is an everyday player, I did not know. Not many previous posts in this thread that pertain to next years team mentioned Gamel at all. He's a proven SP with who sustained an injury that plenty of other SP's have sustained in the past. Snowballs chance in hell seems like a bit of an exaggeration at the least.
  10. Maybe I am misreading posts, or not understanding them well, but it seems like people think there is a legit shot, say in the 50% range, that Greinke will sign with the Brewers in the offseason. That's the tone I get from certain posts, and that is the tone I am catering too. If I am misunderstanding, than I am sorry, but I don't see how you can have a legit conversation about next years team and/or rotation and seriously include Greinke in the talks, that is all. Read the post that I quoted, the whole thing (I didn't quote the whole thing cause I wanted to concentrate on the one line). Does that not seem like that opinion is steered towards Greinke resigning with the Brewers? I don't think I was out of line.
  11. Has he? I like Hart, would like to keep him, but I seriously can't take the whole "he likes it here, wants to stay here" bit seriously. I didn't take it seriously with CC, Prince, or now Greinke either. Then again, I didn't take it seriously with Braun and he proved me wrong. Either way, in this day and age, I think more times that not, the $$$ determines the players future whereabouts more than anything. I think it's standard PR talk for the most part when a player says "i'd like to stay here, blah blah" As far as 2013 goes, I think the Brewers need to land a couple of solid bullpen arms (yeah, I know, obvious), and need to sign a SP who can sustain an ERA under 4. I'd be cool with Yo/Fiers/Marcum/Narv/whoever wins a spot out of spring between Peralta/Thornburg/Rogers for the rotation, and that would mean Marcum would be that below 4 ERA starter the Brewers sign. A lot of you won't agree, but I think Gamel deserves another chance. I think he can be a .800 OPS guy, I really do. Either put him in the OF somewhere, or put him back at 1B and put Hart back in RF (although it seems RRR wants Hart to stay put at 1B). I don't remember for sure, but didn't Gamel play some OF in nashville for a stint? I maybe wrong. Lineup CF Aoki SS Segura LF Braun 3B Ramirez 1B/RF Hart 2B Weeks RF/1B Gamel C Lucroy Bench Green Maldanado Gomez backup SS new utility guy or Schafer (Schafer maybe not as they may want full time AB's for him) Rotation Yo Fiers Marcum Narveson Thornburg/Peralta/Rogers (whoever wins out in spring) Bullpen Axford Henderson Parra (yes, I am one of the few who still likes him. I know I am a minority) Estrada new guy new guy new guy I may have added or forgot a bullpen spot or bench spot but you get the point. Do I see the above team as a contender? I don't know. LOTS of xfactors. Probably too many to consider them a serious contender. One thing that is nice about the last rotation spot, let's say the Brewers go with Peralta and he stinks it up, they have other options to plug his rotation spot with guys like Thornburg or Rogers. Heck, Estrada could even fill the role or compete for it. xfactors that could make or break team in 2013 Fiers - does he keep up what he's doing now or pull a Cal Eldred Whoever gets 5th rotation spot bullpen - no clue who will be there Gamel - sink or swim Either way, I am looking forward to 2013 and I do have optimism that they will contend. If I had to put my life on the line though....
  12. ha, I knew you'd bump this thread up after yesterdays sweep. I am actually optimistic about the 2nd half, just to see how the rotation does. Think of it this way... MVP candidate two possible (stretching maybe) ROTY candidates The guy we replaced Prince with in the clean up spot leads the league in Doubles and is on fire. Actually, bringing up the above just makes me rage even more about the bullpen. grrrr
  13. I hope Fiers doesn't follow the Cal Eldred path...
  14. yeah, I was wrong on that. I saw "60 day DL" on twitter and made that post shortly after. My bad. Marcum is actually headed towards a minor league rehab assignment as long as his simulated game goes good. Keep Rogers in rotation, bump Wolf to pen? If anything due season being over and we need to see what we have for next year?
  15. Way too many people hanging on the false hope that LucroY gave in that interview on Tuesday. Anyone remember what Zack told Adam McCalvy when McCalvy asked him if he'd go to a big market team like NYY or Boston? I'm fairly sure Zack said something along the lines of "yeah, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Just more fans to ignore." or something along those lines. I know Zack came out and said it wouldn't bother him, that's the main point. Too many people banking on Zacks mental condition keeping him in Milwaukee. Two things will dictate where Zack goes - money, and contention. Money more than contention. Zack can sign with the Angels, Yankees, Rangers, (insert big money contender here), for huge $$$, and play on a team that has an outlook to contend for years to come......or he could sign with the Brewers for decent $$$, and play on a team that may contend in the next year or so but with hardly the same long term contending outlook as other teams that will offer him more $$$. It's pretty open and shut when you think about it. LUcroy can talk about how Zack liked Milwaukee all he wants, and how he thinks there's a chance Zack may come back in the offseason, but I don't see how someone with any sort of MLB common sense can seriously see that scenario coming to fruition.
  16. This stems from another thread but I had to repost it here. If someone had told me at the seasons begining that on July 31st, the Brewers would have two guys on their roster who are in legit competition for NL ROTY, along with a legit candidate for MVP and the pitcher they traded could have worked his way into the CY race with a good final 2 months, I'd guarantee the team would be winning the division right now. but the team isn't... ...because of the bullpen. Can't get that out of my mind right now. man.
  17. Not to mention a legit candidate for MVP and the pitcher they traded could have worked his way into the CY race with a good final 2 months. jeeze, that makes it even harder. sorry for expletive.
  18. Awesome point about Aoki! Brewers have two possible ROTY's on their roster! and yet they had to sell at the deadline.
  19. too soon? sample size not enough? no way he keeps it up? Can't contend with Bryce Harper or Wade Miley? What do you guys think? 1.77ERA 1.06WHIP and striking out a batter per inning (67K in 66IP) You keep hearing how the NL and AL ROTY awards are "locked up" with Trout and Harper, and while I do think Trout is a lock, I don't so much know about Harper. One thing to keep him mind, whether it's right or wrong, voters seem to take into account wins and losses, and Fiers, like all the Milwaukee SP's, has been a multiple victim of the Brewers dodgy bullpen.
  20. I heard the interview loud and clear. He gave a lot of false hope as far as ZG coming back to Milwaukee goes. Wickett kept pushing that even. If you look at the blurb they (1250) put on facebook regarding talking to LucrOy, here's the first comment regarding it... Touche'
  21. I guess I'm over-worried about a KRod like implosion. KRod before this year had excellent career numbers, and last year for the Brewers he was mint. Then this year, he fell apart, especially when it came time to trade him. I fear that about Aramis. I don't know why, maybe cause of his age. Hopefully it's false/stupid fear and nothing like that happens, but the "build for the future, stop filling holes" in me says dump him now.
  22. I'd take what Greinke says over false hope rants from LucRoy. Hey, Zack had fun in Milwaukee, liked it here, awesome. Good to know Jon. Thanks for sharing. Who's to say he won't have just as much fun or more fun in LA to the tune of $150M over 5yrs and knowing that he's on a for-sure contender for years to come. Just saying, hanging on what LuCroy said this morning seems fairly weak towards the debate when you think about it.
  23. It would be a salary dump though. I don't see Aramis being worth what he will be paid after this year.
  24. Thank you for finding that! Seriously! I swear they quoted that on chuck and wickett and the 'I'll never pitch in the NL again' or whatever was said along with it. Whoever read that quote from Greinke on the show, that stemmed from the link above finished the quote saying Greinke did not want to pitch in the NL again. I honestly didn't make it up.
