  1. That's the thing, at least the stats give us some comparison between the defenses. I was able to bring some evidence to the table to show you they may not be the worst in the playoffs. Playing the Saints twice is tough on a defense but its not like the Packers ONLY played the Vikes and Bears all season. Again opinions are great and and your definitely entitled to have one. Just hard to argue against three set of numbers showing they are not the worst in any category.
  2. Who? I can't think of any playoff team with a worse defense than the Packers, and most aren't even close. Points allowed: Atlanta- 406 GG- 388 Okland- 385 Miami- 380 Yards Allowed Per Game: Miami- 383 Oakland- 375 Atlanta- 371 KC- 368 GB- 363 Takeaways: GB- 25 Mia- 25 NYG- 25 NE- 23 Pit- 23 ATL- 22 Dal- 20 Sea- 19 Hou- 17 Det- 14 None of these stats GB is the worst in.
  3. Randall is a perfect example of a player who has lost all confidence. He may end up being a solid player but right now he lacks any confidence. Hard to succeed out there reacting to every play rather than just seeing and going.
  4. Yards allowed is great but it really isn't the end all stat for a defense. There are/were worse defenses than the Packer in the playoffs this season. While it's not good, it's not that bad either. And it goes back to the point that Capers has done a decent with very little this season. Is some of that on him for not coaching up players? Sure but I'd say coaching up several UDFA and competing to go to the Super Bowl while using these players is a feather in the cap to him. We have a couple pretty good defensive players but the cupboard is pretty bare.
  5. They had a great, GREAT player at every level in 2010. Rod Woodson, Nick Collins, Clay Matthews (playing at his absolute peak. Cullen Jenkins playing havoc on the line. Is it fair to say Capers got "lucky"? I don't know, but there was pro-bowl talent at every level. (Not directing this next bit at anyone in particular) The thing is, every year our defense struggles to cover the pass, cover the middle of the field, and stop teams from scoring (we've been pretty mediocre since 2010) and it seems that a very vocal part of the fan-base wants to say "Injuries!" Look, this is the NFL. EVERY TEAM PLAYS THROUGH INJURIES. Find me a team that doesn't. It just doesn't happen. For the Packers, the problem is compounded badly when Thompson refuses to plug holes. How many games did we play this year without a true running back? You can't just say "Injuries!" over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the NFL like it's an actual valid excuse for 6 years running. There have been times the Patriots used WR's for DB's. There were times that Tom Brady's top targets were Deion Branch and David Givens! (WHO????) You play on! That's the NFL. Next man up. If someone is in the NFL, whether they're a First rounder, or a practice squad guy, we have to assume they have SOME kind of talent and ability to play, and be out on the field. No, some UDFA practice squad guy is probably not as good as the first rounder, but he's still probably here in the NFL for a reason, he's still more athletic and talented and physically gifted than 99.5% of all the people out there. NE is playing without Gronk right now. I mean, look at ANY teams injury report, and you'll see no less than 8 - 10 guys or more. Do Packer fans really think the Packers are the only team to play through tough injuries? Atlanta has 11 guys on their injury report right now. NE has 9 guys. Packers have 12. The Steelers have 14!! I wonder if their fans use the injury excuse as much as ours do. They're playing to go to the Super Bowl. Who's using it as an excuse? People are just discussing why Capers is either doing a good or bad job.
  6. On January 19, 2009, Capers was named the Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator by head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson, where he replaced the 4-3 defense Green Bay has used since 1992 with the 3-4 he used in Miami.[3] Green Bay's defensive ranking in his first year improved to second in the league in 2009, from 21st in the league in 2008.[4] On September 12, 2010, Capers' defense finished the season ranked 2nd in scoring defense, 5th in total defense, 2nd in interceptions, 2nd in sacks, and 1st in opposing quarterback passer rating, in spite of being decimated by injuries during the 2010 season.[5] On February 6, 2011, Capers lead a 5th ranked defensive squad and helped the Packers win the Super Bowl. During the playoff run his team had a pick 6 in the final 3 playoff games that year; Divisional Round (Williams), Championship game (Raji), and in Super Bowl 45 (Collins.) On September 8, 2011, Capers began the year where he would watch his defense finish in the bottom of the barrel after finishing 5th the prior year. Since 2011 his defensive rankings on yards per game have been ranked: 2011 – 32nd-ranked defense, 2012 – 11th, 2013 – 25th, 2014 – 15th, 2015 – 15th and now 2016 – currently ranked 18th after giving up 4 straight games of 30 or more points. His points per game rankings are 2009 – 7th, 2010 – 2nd, 2011 – 19th, 2012 – 11, 2013 – 24th, 2014 – 13th, 2015 – 12th and 2016 – 19th.
  7. Toss in Cook, although on the offensive side of the ball, he's another great example of using free agency to better the team.
  8. I don't think Capers is to blame for bad defensive backs and linebackers that can't cover. That's on Thompson. Agreed. This might be Capers best year considering what he has to use. Lack of talent and injuries have killed the depth all around. Packers need to go hard on the defensive side of the ball in the upcoming draft. But also don't be fooled. The Cowboys have one of the best offensive lines I've seen. Along with that, Elliot and Dez are elite. Dak is emerging. Witten still gets the job done. Dallas is potent. The Packers D has held their own the last half of the season.
  9. Just hoping Jordy, Rollins, Burnett, Baktiahri, and whoever else is banged up gets all nice and healthy for this Sunday.
  10. I think Clay has actually been playing pretty well as of late. Hasn't had a ton of sacks but he's showed up with pressure when team really needed it. Last night he hit Dak a few times as he was releasing much like the play that was batted down to force the FG with 40 seconds left. Also, Dallas has a beast of an oline. Can't remember one dominating the way that they do. Amazing.
  11. Get new friends. Kidding aside there are annoying fans everywhere for every team.
  12. The fact that this was even figured out, bugs me. The worse record could have to do with it being a key matchup game
  13. I want the 50th anniversary of the first SB rematch. How fun would that be? Plus if we lost it, I could at least be happy for Andy Reid.
  14. Going to be the Stearns specialty of 2017. Probably will have 50 saves this year as we win 88 games. Can't wait!
  15. Jordy ruled out. It's Janis time!
  16. Would have loved to add Drew Smyly.
  17. The petition going around social media to ban Aikman and Buck from every calling a Packers game. It's just so Packer fan (and I am one).
  18. Square peg, round hole.
  19. I'm sorry but what? A "real" .500? In playing 162 game seasons, you are what you are. That simply is not true and you see it year after year. One glowing example is the Seattle Mariners. Twice in the past 10 years they had bad teams who snuck over 81 wins but even after adding more talent they lost 101 games the next years. Some teams play way over their rosters real talent and it basically never lasts. 162 games is still a small sample for wins and losses. Baseball is a very high variance team and the same exact roster can have wildly different results different years. This is the trap bad GMs fall into, not understanding how good their team really is. Yeah and the Panthers and Broncos were in the Super Bowl a year ago and didn't make the playoffs his season. It happens in all sports. It doesn't take away anything from their good years. Just like if the Brewers snuck up to or above .500 next season and then fell below it the year after.
  20. Jordy is most likely done for the post season. It will be interesting to see if other step up in his absence or if this will now become the excuse of a flutter out of the post season.
  21. I'm sorry but what? A "real" .500? In playing 162 game seasons, you are what you are.
  22. It was 4th and 1, not 4th and 4. Cook didn't drop a pass, but the Packers scored last two possessions of the half, so if anyone did have a drop, no effect on the game. Are you talking about ghetto Giants game? I believe this (") is used for inches. 4th and 4 inches. Oh and Cook's drop sure as hell changed the game. Seven points went on the board because he missed one. Otherwise time runs out and the hailmary never happens. Did you watch the game even?
  23. I loved how aggressive McCarthy was today. Loved it! Keep coaching that way. Poor play call on the 4th down but I loved attempting it.
  24. Silly comment. The "rest" of the league cannot have Ryan Braun. Only six teams can. And it's debatable as to how many of those are actual matches for him. But Ryan Braun will be a Brewer until he is not. Something I think we can all agree on.
  25. So silly to just anoint teams every year. Things can change so fast. He's building the team with talent all over the place including the MLB level. This team could just surprise some and they could continue to be duds. Just too hard to predict the future.
