  1. Considering Nelson and Peralta had career worst seasons this year and they are still sitting 17th in team ERA for their starters.... I'd say they have upside above 15th for next year. One would think that but Nelson really isn't too far off of his career norms. We may be seeing the pitcher that he is. I hope not, but there is definitely no guarantee that this is not close to what Jimmy will give us next season.
  2. If you have: 1. Matt Garza 2. Jimmy Nelson 3. Wily Peralta 4. Chase Anderson 5. Zach Davies 6. Junio Guerra as your starting pitching next season, you're looking at a pitching staff that will be somewhere around 15th-18th in the league ranking wise. This staff has little to no upside either other than seeing what the young Davies will do in another full season or if Guerra can repeat as our "ace."
  3. I don't think we should trade Thornburg this early. If he puts up another half season of the way he is pitching right now, he will be worth much more. I'd let it ride.
  4. 2017 Prediction: At least two of our starting pitchers pitch their career worsts and by that I mean historically bad and tank our season in March/April/May. Seems to be a trend to Brewer seasons as of late.
  5. I am hoping it is something like the baseball village in St. Louis. It would be great to build up that area around Miller Park and create more of an attraction to the city of Milwaukee than just going to Brewers games.
  6. It'd be great to see the Dodgers slump in the playoffs. Might up the return.
  7. We have. Ortiz and Bickford. And Hader. Hopefully they will pan out to be those type a lot of question marks though As does every pitching prospect.
  8. Here is a good reason he got the call.
  9. Why? His future is in broadcasting and not pitching. That was well known for 3-4 years... Tanking. Duh.
  10. I predicted 76 wins so I need 8-4! Although I predicted hot start, then cool down. Either way it'd be fun to be spot on.
  11. Bump. I'm really interested in this. People here are bashing him and I would love to hear someone who has actually seen him play. As others have said, the numbers tell us Nottingham was a bad catcher this year. I think a better question, and this may be what you're getting at, CAN Nottingham be a good catcher? That's where the eye test comes in. Frankly, I think we'll have that answer come spring training. We'll see if the Brewers still believe he can catch, or if he's move to 1B. I've never once disputed that his numbers aren't bad. I myself have no clue whether he can or cannot catch. My question was simple. Has anyone actually seen him play/catch? I'd love to hear what they think because it is very telling when you can actually see it live. We play armchair GM over guys we don't get the privilege of even seeing play.
  12. Bump. I'm really interested in this. People here are bashing him and I would love to hear someone who has actually seen him play. One does not need to watch Nottingham to know he had a horrid year behind the dish. "Computers? Anybody who uses computers doesn't know a damn thing about [baseball]...You know what a computer can tell you? When to scratch your ass. What else do they tell you."
  13. Bump. I'm really interested in this. People here are bashing him and I would love to hear someone who has actually seen him play.
  14. Don't you think that if this was possible, the Dodgers would have done it?
  15. How many people taking about Nottingham's defense has actually seen him catch? Just curious.
  16. 3 of 4 from the Cubs late in the season is niiiiiiiice
  17. Right on pace to be within a win or two. Braun is hands down the team MVP. A case could be argued that it could have been Lucroy had he been with the team for the entire year. Carter leads the team in home runs, but he exceeded my expectations of 30 homers. Santana didn't but mostly due to injury. He has hit with the expected power when healthy. Nelson has not been the solid 2 I expected. My Keon Broxton prediction is almost dead on! Struggled early, came on later, settled in as an every day player. I would only be impressed if you predicted him snapping his wrist in two at Wrigley.
  18. This new thing where our pitchers don't let the other team score much seems to be working out pretty well. They should adopt this fully.
  19. Oh I got a shot if this team gets hot over the last 13 lol
  20. Depends on many factors. Are we going to be competitive in the next 3-4 years anyway? Lots can still change but right now I'd still peg 2019 as the next real window of contention opening up. So that's already year 3. Even if you think he can maintain a .900 OPS for that long, is it worth hanging onto him for that one useful season? Another factor is how well the outfielders you have in your system are progressing. As long as Braun is here, he IS blocking them. More factors -- what are you doing with the money you save? And of course, what kind of prospects are you getting back? Finally, everyone is excited about what Braun is doing, so I'd caution that his last 3 OPS's were .854, .777, and .869 in a shortened season. So..how sure are you? Even if you think his numbers were down because of injuries, there's certainly no way to guarantee that he can avoid that in the future, especially as he ages. Risk/reward assessment is Stearn's job here, but its always better to sell a year too early than a year too late. There's a number of ways this could go, but if next year he's battling injuries and OPSing. 785, a lot of people will be asking why we didn't sell. I completely get that point. But will we really be upset if we are passing up second tier prospects? Because if that is what we get in this, I'm just not seeing the long term picture. Like any prospect they could turn out and we hit a homer but at this point, we have one of the best in the game. Why sell low on him?
  21. If you believe Braun will be a .900+ OPS guy for the next 3-4 seasons, is this even a good trade? Those guys don't grow on trees. I understand that you get players back for the future but if you're not getting back a top end prospect like DeLeon, is this even worth it?
  22. Sometimes you have to really look at what have you done for me lately. It's hard to make a case for Puig with the dollar value he has.
  23. Was it top 5 before the trades and draft this year? I'd expect our teams in the minors to fair pretty well in the next few years.
  24. I would love to see Braun destroy pitching over the next 13 games and get to triple digits for RBI's, average up over .315 and OP closer to .930
