  1. Thanks for the remarks about Miller Park. I've been to a number of stadiums/parks and I would say Miller Park is very good for the fan experience and ease of getting in and out but a bit lacking in aesthetics. I would rate my ball park experiences as follows (best to worst): Camden Yards Fenway Park Petco Park Dodger Stadium Miller Park Angels Stadium Wrigley Field Cell Phone Park County Stadium
  2. And if Taylor Green could play a competent MLB shortstop he'd be starting for the Brewers right now. But he can't so he's not.
  3. Taylor Green has a .739 OPS this year in AAA and .645 in MLB. So I disagree with the suggestion that his not being given a starting role (or at least major role) with the 2012 Brewers was a misstep by Doug Melvin. As stated upthread, his 2011 AAA numbers were driven by an abnormally high BABIP.
  4. Mat Gamel is not playing 3B at the major league level. Please, let's remove that from the table of discussion.
  5. Ramirez has been good this year, and there are other teams that will glady take his contract. But no team is going to give up good prospects and pay his full salary. So you are either going to get salary relief or a prospect but not both. Given the choice, I'd rather keep him in Milwaukee.
  6. To those who wanted Ramirez traded, who is playing 3B for the Brewers in 2013 and 2014? Or do you not care because you'd prefer to punt the season away?
  7. I think the best move is the keep Ramirez and Hart. Who plays 3B if Ramirez is moved? Cody Ransom? No thank you. Quality thirdbasemen are not easy to find and we happen to have one on the roster. RF/1B is much easier to fill but I don't think the trade return on Hart would exceed his value to the Brewers over the next two years. I think the Brewers will be competitive in 2013 (perhaps I'm delusional). An important part of the 2013 puzzle is keeping Ramirez and Hart here. Neither contract is prohibitive. As far as 2014, I don't see having Hart and Ramirez on the roster for 2012 makes 2014 a problem. It's not like they have albatross contracts like Jayson Werth or Carl Crawford.
  8. Thank you for providing a definitive answer. Would someone who is just suggesting that it's in our best interest to trade Hart or Ramirez also be delusional or only those who think Melvin actually will trade them? My comment was more directed at the post that suggested that Doug Melvin was looking at his phone on deadline day and wondering why it wasn't ringing. If you think Melvin should be stripping the team down more power to you. But it's not going to happen.
  9. Doug Melvin has no interest in trading Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez. They are playing 1B/RF and 3B for the Brewers in 2013. Anyone who thinks the Brewers are going to strip the team down and do a Cubs-style rebuilding are delusional.
  10. I don't think Melvin wondered why his phone didn't ring. He knows why it didn't ring--the Brewers don't have any more decent pieces to trade for this year. Do you think another manager wants KRod, Wolf, Izturis, Ransom, or anyone else who doesn't have a future with the team? Marcum, due to his injury, could not be traded. Once Melvin traded Greinke and Kottaras and didn't have anything left other teams wanted. I give Melvin's trades a 7.5 out of 10
  11. I hate firings like this. Fire the people responsible for the problem and will not be part of the solution. It starts with KRod and basically includes everyone in the bullpen who has no future with this team.
  12. fwiw, I haven't seen any reports saying his defense is actually bad at SS. Sounds more like an as-he-fills-out thing, which is at least better than him not having the talent to play SS, imo. From Baseball America:
  13. This is a good haul for the Brewers under the circumstances. That said, I'm concerned about the scouts/scouting services that suggest that Segura's days at SS are numbered. If he can stick at SS then this is a great trade.
  14. I'm all for seeing what Thornburg, Peralta, and Rogers can do at the MLB level. This season is lost anyway. That said, I don't think the average fan would appreciate seeing youngsters prove their mettle. I think people would stay away in droves because they would just see Milwaukee as giving up on really trying to win games.
  15. In other news, Theo Epstein has announced that any team may have Alfonso Soriano for nothing, if they simply pay the rest of his salary.
  16. You can't possibly put any of the bullpen woes on RR. When every single pitcher you have in the bullpen walks out to the mound with a gas can and matches there's nothing a manager can do.
  17. Pulling Greinke after 7 innings was a good move (and was probably ordered by DM). What GM is going say, "well sure Greinke pitched great for 7 innings but I would like to see what he could do in the 9th before I trade for him"? Putting Greinke out there for the 8th could ONLY have hurt. What if he put 2 runners on and gave up a HR? That puts a damper on his outing. RR made the right move there. And quite frankly the goal of last night was not to win. This team is not going to the playoffs. The goal was to showcase Greinke and they did that--in spades. And how can anyone criticize removing Ax from the closer's role after the crap he's thrown up recently? Honestly, the bullpen is so bad right now there are no right or wrong choices out there. Everyone is bad. When a team can't hold a 5 run lead in the 9th the team is cooked. And the Brewers are cooked right now. As for Ned Yost--I'd rather be waterboarded than have him manage the team again.
  18. When they find the suspect (and they will) they should let Cal and Billy have some quality time with him in a jail cell.
  19. Brian Anderson - "It looks like Greinke is done after 7 innings. Curious" No, actually it's not curious. It's smart. Doug Melvin was able to prove to other GM's that there's nothing wrong with Greinke that he's still a top echelon pitcher. Let the offers roll in. Having him pitch the 8th would only give him a chance to crap the bed. No thanks.
  20. I doubt the Nats would take either Izturis or Ransom even if the Brewers gave them away for free and paid their salaries for the remainder of the year.
  21. As a fan (who obviously isn't making decisions as to who will be traded and when) there is virtually no downside to being optimistic about the team. I'd rather be optimistic than wallow in negativity.
  22. Rumor has it (per Tom Haudricourt) that Marcum would be receptive to a 1 year deal with the Brewers that will allow him to reestablish his value for a longer term deal after 2013.
  23. Agreed. I'd like to starting adding help in 2013 with a Zack Greinke contract extension.
