  1. Now, who's in for the 8th bottom of? Tbow according to Uecker
  2. BILLY HALL! FINALLY!!!! Man, he was given a gift inside fastball and Hall was all over it--about 2 pitches after he tried to pull and outside breaking ball. YAY!!!! A LEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. That's what powell just said, late scratch. No other news yet edit: strained left groin, so never mind. edit 2: oh, and 28 straight outs for the Brewers without a hit.
  4. okay, thanks for the explanation. I was beginning to wonder if something on my end as making them not appear for some reason.
  5. woogie, why are the standings not being updated in the initial posts? I've noticed that for about a week now.
  6. I'm going to reverse-vent here and state something to the effect of "when are we going to be done our fluky play?" It sure will be nice at the end of the year, when we're in the playoffs with a 90 win team and vent, "Boy, that mid-May thru mid-June stretch sure was a fluke! Imagine if we had played .500 ball during that time! We'd be a near-100 win team and have home field!" I sure hope this comes true (well, at least the playoff part)
  7. okay, I don't know if this thread is the correct one for this but I didn't want to start a new thread. I watched Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy last night for the first time (I know, I know. I'm WAY behind the times). To say I was disappointed is the understatement of the year. I went in expecting to laugh just about every moment from what I've heard and read from other people. I think I snickered once or twice but the rest of it was dumb, dumb, dumb! Maybe it's supposed to be that way and you're supposed to laugh at how dumb it is, but I was not really amused at all. The story was lame, the jokes were, although humorous, were so dumb you could see them coming from a mile away. I watched it to get my mind off the Brewers no hitter, thinking laughter is the best medicine. Maybe my train of thought was still stuck in the no-hitter depression, but it was as disappointing a movie as any. Now I wonder if any of the other "funny" or "good" movies that I've held off on are going to do the same thing and totally disappoint.
  8. believe me, there are tons or alternative names for Kum 'n Go stores in Iowa, none of which are suitable for this site.
  9. I kind of thought that Maroth was snickering about the pink colors in the thread, but the Eddie Harris comparison is good too. If we get shut out/no hit/perfecto-ed does the IGT turn black, too?
  10. a few of you said something to this effect: "I'm embarrassed" Well, Verlander is an AWESOME pitcher. He is good. And he happened to have EVERYTHING working in his favor tonight. Curveball, off-speed, fastball, defense. What can you do? He is good and will be good for his entire career, unless he hits an injury truck (elbow, knee, shoulder) that wipes out some of his stuff (think Frank Tanana in the early 70s--when he came back, he was a junk ball pitcher) I could see being "embarrassed" if someone like Kyle Lohse or some other cruddy pitcher did this.
  11. if this is the problem, then you really need to play around with the sliders. On the PC they have them and I would assume so on Xbox and PS2 also. Mess around with them and they change the game dramatically. I've got mine set very realistically (to me, at least). It took me a good 4 months to get them the way I want them to be, so it can take some time to tinker.
  12. well, I come here to check on things and I see we're getting NO HIT. Against Verlander with a career high of K's. NO HIT. And our crappy line up is getting NO HIT. And the seagulls have are getting NO HIT too, just being annoying to hitters. I'm glad I've been playing video games most of the afternoon. I would be pretty mad if I was watching us get NO HIT. (I hope I can snap the NO HIT with this jinx)
  13. yeah, I looked at the Drury Inn Downtown. It's in our "price range" as is the Hampton Inn Downtown. My main thing is that we would be leaving St. Louis on Monday and I'd like to avoid downtown 9 AM traffic if possible. I figured a hotel on the edge of town somewhere would probably be better.
  14. Lil Dummy beat me to it, but I, too, think that JJ batting with Prince behind him in the lineup may help out Hardy and his "slump" (compared to earlier this year). He'd have a bit more protection so he'd see more pitches. With Hardy #2 and Braun #3, JJ wasn't getting good pitches because the opponents knew a rookie was behind him in the lineup and could probably use inexperience to their advantage (notice Braun's Ks and GDP in the #3 spot). I'd actually prefer Braun in the #2 spot, but that's me. Anyways, good to see him get a day off; he probably needed it. Counsell and Graff to start off the offense, though? Ick. But both have been "doing better" the last couple of days (Counsell for a few weeks, it seems), so I can see Ned using them #1-2 to see if they can jump start things a little. Don't know how much I'm going to see of this one, so GO BREWERS!
  15. we're planning on hitting Iowa, Nebraska on the drive back. I don't know if the wife has been to Field of Dreams or not, but I have (played a game there, too). It is very cool to see. I think we are going to skip the museum thing in Springfield and try to make the zoo in St. Louis. As for Illinois, I've known it's going to be boring, so thanks for the pity. Luckily, we have XM radio so hopefully I can find a ballgame or something to listen to while we're driving that stretch. Might be a good time to let my wife drive, too, and I can take a nap or something. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif I've done the Iowa-Nebraska route before and, yes, it's quite boring, too. But I went to college in Iowa so I know of some things to do and routes to take to take some boredom off. Also done the North-South Dakota trip, too. Also, very boring but it does get a bit scenic in spots. Keep up the posts with some other ideas. Thanks for everything so far.
  16. this is why C.B. Bucknor tends to be rated as one of the worst umps by players and managers. He tends to be a "look at me" ump, according to many of the hits I got on google for "C.B. Bucknor player evaluations"
  17. Well, my wife and I start our jaunt back to the midwest on Friday. We're leaving sunny Kingman, AZ and driving to Neenah, hoping to get there by Tuesday. Anyways, we've got our first day covered, stopping at Petrified Forest National Park and then going to Tucumcari, NM and stopping for the night. It's days 2-4 that leave us wondering for sure what we will be doing. We plan on stopping in Springfield, MO at the end of day 2 so we can go to some animal museum/zoo/aquarium on day 3. Anybody know of any cool places in southern Kansas to do? We're not interested in Dodge City this trip, and we visited the World's Largest Hand Dug Well 7 years ago. After this animal thing on Sunday AM, we're driving to St. Louis. I've never been to the Gateway Arch so we're going to check that out. I've heard the St. Louis Zoo is good, from some of you here on this site. Are those things close at all or on opposite sides of town? Any recommendations on hotels in the northern part of St. Louis? Finally, on Monday, we're driving from St. Louis to Neenah, via the interstate up Illinois. Anything neat to see in Lincoln land? I know it's not very scenic (flat from what I've heard). Thanks for any help you can give.
  18. I used eye black (the real stuff, not the stickers) when I played ball. I never thought it worked much at all, but it looked cool as heck. Of course, I was such a gritty ballplayer that half the time I'd wipe sweat off my face and totally forget I had the stuff on and end up smearing it all over my face. I looked like I was some commando in the jungle at the end of some games. I didn't care, though.
  19. "And Leon's getting laaaarrrrggger!" from "Airplane"
  20. George Costanza, Seinfeld, "The Opposite" here's mine: "So run, you cur... RUN! Tell all the other curs the law's comin'!" edit: BTW, this bothered me a bit, but according to the original poster's post, aren't we all playing this game wrong? We're supposed to be giving the next line in the movie/tv show, aren't we?
  21. I'll vent again that Bill Hall is lost. I know that C.B. Buckner has a humongous strike zone tonight (either he has a late flight to the coast for his next assignment or he starts his vacation tomorrow) but Bill needs to swing the bat if it is close. And he should have learned from watching everybody else go down on close pitches that you better swing at them if they're close. Oh, and we left 2 more runners on base (albeit after we took the lead)
  22. all right, I'll vent about 4 consecutive innings with 2 runners on and all four innings both runners are stranded. Oh, and C.B. Buckner is a bad umpire.
  23. my wife looked at our Directv guide and said that the game is now on the guide for tonight on the Rangers feed (643 I believe). I haven't looked for myself, but why would she lie. She said it wasn't on the list last night but is this afternoon.
  24. I was in Laughlin, NV all day and hurried home, listening to the game on XM in the car, stopped at Walmart with them up 1-0 in the 8th, and, back in the car, found them up 3-0 with CoCo in. Game winner was hit just as I turned on the TV in the house. Glad I missed the fireworks. I'm disappointed. I feel bad for Sheeter. I feel bad for the team. I hope Cordero won't pull a Turnbow on us due to his former Texas demons haunting him again. At least he threw enough pitches that he may not be called on in tomorrow's game (but with the off-day on Monday, anything's possible).
