    yay! My evil plan to not miss school and be able to fly up to MKE on a late October weekend is now in place. We just have to get the team there first. Didn't get to see a lick of the game but I'll watch the tivo when I get home in a week. (btw, I'm in Phoenix right now about to help my cousin move to Minnesota. He and I are driving the big moving truck and towing a car. Seems like only about 10 days go that I was just getting home from driving across the country. Oh, wait! I was!)

    I read the articles about this and the '57 & 82 teams in the WI Historical Society magazine that my uncle gave to me when I was up there last month. Very interesting stuff. Wish I could see it all.

    in Sanchez's defense, I would venture a guess that he got in on the player's vote. And, highly likely, many of the players were like, "eh, I don't know who to pick on the Pirates. I mean, c'mon, they're the PIRATES. Hey, Johnny! Who was that guy on the Pirates that hit so well last year? Sandwich? What?!? Oh, Sanchez! Sorry about that! Thanks for the help!" Personally, Snell or Gorzelanny should've been the Pirates' rep.

    still too early to determine who is the best or going to be the best, in my opinion. Ask me that one in another year or two. As for who I would pick to be on my team for the next 10 years, my gut will say Ryan Zimmerman, but it really depends on what the rest of this team is going to look like, where I'm playing my home games, etc. When you build a team these are things you have to know. I'd like to say Ryan Braun, I really would. But Zimmerman has actually made it through a full season and appears to be on his way to a decent to very-good season this year, too. Plus, his defense is outstanding.

    I remember the brawl very well, but had NO idea that was his last game in the bigs.

    well, hopefully the good news about this year's dull derby is that they will make some changes for next year, perhaps similar to those in the Stark article I linked earlier. But I agree, alot of it was the stadium. And it doesn't get better next year--Yankee Stadium, IIRC.

    If I remember right, the last time they were out here the stadium was half-full to three-quarters full, so you shouldn't have too much problem getting tickets. Heck, 80% of the crowd will be Badger fans this year anyways. Hope they don't have a blackout like last time, though. That didn't look like fun.

    yeah, I don't care what anybody says about the guys in the 2nd round "going off" for many homers, this derby has been a big fat dud. Very boring. And I'm not just saying that because Prince is out.

    this also assumes that the hitters do their part to make this plan work. If we only manage a few hits and/or solo homers, there is no way this plan lasts more than 3 days. Otherwise, it's a good idea.

    No, I meant that it's the same in this way: If Chase Utley gets seriously hurt saving a kid from death by car smack, will the Phillies management moan and wail then also? It seems to me that anything that can be avoided that has potential for injury must avoided, even if it means helping out our fellow man. C'mon. These players hunt, exercise, vacation, etc. during the off-season. They live their lives. They are humans. Human nature, for the most part, is to help others in times of peril. If Prince Fielder visits my town and gets hit by a car while saving my son's life, I'll be forever indebted. If the Brewers would make a deal out of it and openly complain that what Prince did was wrong would make me disavow any and all love for that team forever. I understand, jason, what you mean about the groundscrew has their job and the players have theirs. They shouldn't "intermingle" with each other's job. But in times of peril, like yesterday, human nature sometimes just takes over. I'd bet some of those players ran out to help on instinct. I doubt they took a vote or something in the dugout before going out there. I better stop talking about human nature, though, before I accidentally throw something religious out there.

    It's good to see they got rid of that USA vs. the World thing they had a few years back in the derby. I still remember Hee-Seop Choi in the HR derby; what a disaster that was. I want to say that was also the year Bret Boone swung and missed on a pitch and finished with zero.

    how would that be any different than Utley or Howard being lost for the year because he got hit by a car while saving a 4-year old kid who ran into the road to chase a soccer ball? They did the right thing.

    I agree with this, but I think the reason Ned does this is to give Spurling some opportunities to shine and improve his confidence level. "See, Chris, we may need you late in the season to be 'the man', so let's see you do it here in June." That kind of a thing (although I doubt Ned actually says that to him.) As for using Villanueva in blowouts, I would venture a guess that it's just to get some work in, since he was likely warming up in the pen when the game was still relatively close and Ned would rather not burn up another arm for the day and instead just use the guy that's already warm.

    This is so stupid, but I guess I'll ask here since I can't find any info online. I'd like to attach our accessory license plate holder to the front of our new Honda CR-V (in Arizona, you only need a plate in the rear). It was given in a small package when we bought the car with all the hardware and bolts and stuff. But no directions. So I figured that I'm smart enough to get this done. Turns out I am smart enough to attach the thing to the vehicle except for knowing how to keep the thing flush with the bumper. It looks like I have to drill 2 holes into the bumper to keep the plate holder upright (so it doesn't just droop down and eventually snap off.) It makes sense, but I have no idea how to do this safely without totally messing up the thing. I've emailed my Honda guy to see what he says but just trying to avoid him saying, "bring it on it and we'll get 'er on there for you! Oh, and it'll cost you $129 plus labor," since I've pretty much got it 90% done already. Anybody got any ideas? I took off the plate from my wife's old Ford Escort (car was originally from WI so it has it already attached) and I don't see any bolts/screws or anything holding it on there flush).

    I know that I was really turned off by Cars. I thought it was a horrible movie. Dumb story. Preachy. Not funny at all. I know my wife wants to see Ratatouille but she may have to go see it by herself or wait until it's on DVD before I watch it with her. I've just lost faith in so many movies (especially comedies and the CGI "kids" movies).

    I can see this: 2/3 from COL 2/4 from ARZ 3/3 from SF 3/4 at CIN 2/4 at STL That is a 12-6 guess from me. I'm sticking to it. I'll guess the Cubs do this: 3/4 from HOU 3/4 from SF 1/3 from ARZ 0/3 at STL (yeah, I'm mean) 2/3 at CIN So that's 9-8 from the Cubs from me. I'm sticking to that, too. So I guess, I'm guessing on a 7-game lead (over the Cubs) after July 29th. I'm not going to bother coming up with guesses for other teams in our division. The Cards, I guess would be the only ones to consider.

    I didn't catch the post-game show (if there even was one, since everyone was probably heading out of dodge as soon as possible), but did Yost do the calm and cool thing again? Or did he spew the same garbage as yesterday, "Cappy pitched a great game," and the like? If he did, that's 2 days in a row of that baloney. Is he going to be saying that to the National reporters in October in playoffs when it isn't true? He's going to be flamed in the media so fast for it.

    well, that's kind of why I said I'm holding out for extreme hope--that we DON'T lose 30-ish or more games in the second half. Is it probably? No, but a man can hope we go off on a tear in August and September.

    maybe I missed it, but does anybody else thing Cappy sitting in the hot sun for 10 minutes while "running the bases" in the top of the 6th could have sapped some energy? Instead of getting some gatorade and a cold towel, he was out there for four batters on the bases. And, yes, I was ready to throw some baseballs at the TV when Yost just stood there in the dugout after the home run (which came on the very next pitch after the "discussion" on the mound, I might add). And after the walk. And after the single. Disgusting. On a semi-related note, Francisco Cordero has been used twice in the last 10 days. Wouldn't it have been a good idea to get him an inning today before he (likely) pitches in the All Star game to loosen him up a bit? And if he doesn't get into the game that'll be twice in 2 weeks! Argh!

    glad to see I'm not the only one to not get gameday audio. Darn no Uecker! At least I get the Nationals tv guys, who aren't that bad. Why not send Hardy home on that base hit? What happened to our aggressive ways on the basepaths? Or was it due to Hardy's "injury"?

    chadomac, I do not believe the 2007 mod is for anything other than PC. You may be able to get rosters for the gamecube but the mvpmods.com or eamods.com sites that I frequent only have rosters for PS2 and XBox, IIRC.
