  1. He will hit a rough patch, and we will see how he handles it. But, listen to the broadcaster for Carolina. He said he is the best player he has seen there. FWIW, I factor in age versus level in my rankings. We have several guys who are putting up good numbers but their age is up there, so I dinged them in my rankings. Chourio is the opposite. His age helps his rankings. Just my opinions. At least there is a thought process to my rankings, for better or worse. That's why we all put up our personal rankings and they are averaged. Everyone is free to look at them the way they see it. Maybe others will see it differently than I do, and that's fine. I am curious to see how the aggregates come out. Over a several year basis, I think our aggregates tend to be as good as some of the other rankings that come out. IMO. EDIT The Cold Brew Podcast is really good. They interviewed the broadcaster for Carolina, Greg Young. It's a good in-depth listen and has some good info on the many Carolina prospects. If folks have a chance to listen before they finalize their lists, it is helpful and informative.

  3. I like Brousseau a lot. He’s the type of guy who helps you win games. Does the right things and has a great feel for the game. I have defended Hiura forever. There’s talent in the bat. But half the time he strikes out and it’s just not getting better. It’s nuts. That leaves only half of his at bats involving ball In play. It’s tough to him to produce good numbers when you only have a chance with balls in play half the time. He’s got a quick powerful stroke if he cannot make contact enough, that is the crux of who he is. He might need a change of scenery. Brosseau is not a superstar has more value IMO
  4. Very good article and well said. I like the term tendency and I suspect the main driver is identifying an under-appreciated asset more than anything. Whether it’s a Juco, or in Hawaii, or a player with value who is sliding, or a certain skill set, you might see the Brewers hiding in the shadows, waiting to pounce.
  5. Man, we are getting clobbered with injuries. It is getting to the point that I’m afraid to visit the site.
  6. Once Renfroe is back, Cutch should not see right handers again. It’s ugly at this stage of his career. Meanwhile, Hiura should get regular AB’s against RHP. Love Counsell but, man, he can be some combination of eccentric and stubborn. If he goes against the grain and it doesn’t work, he will double down to try to prove his odd decision was right all along but it inevitably just gets worse. Like quick-sand.
  7. Bringing the lefties, baby. We haven’t had a stretch of home grown starters of this quality come up through our system at this level…ever. Great feather in Stearns’ cap.

  9. He’s a great owner for this market. The prior owner put a doozy over on the fan base. He had an ulterior motive to demonstrate to the league that small market teams were in a hopeless situation. That’s how he marketed the team to the fan base and the fans fell for it and repeated his talking points. Sadly, the Brewer fans were collateral damage to Bud’s agenda. The new owner never played that card. He has built the franchise up. He’s made shrewd decisions in terms of getting Stearns and Counsell and a good infrastructure in here. The fans have gone from hopeless to picky and harder to please. The defeatist attitude is gone. He spends in a targeted way and he’s kept the team competitive.
  10. Nice to see Hedbert Perez come alive. He had a rough start but maybe it’s turning. Hard not to be excited about Chourio. He will no doubt have some ups and downs but what he’s doing at his age is very exciting.
  11. That’s a great story. I enjoyed it. I remember Riles. I am a tad older than you but I was a kid too. I remember the newspaper would carry stats for league leaders in the minors. I recall picking up on some Brewer prospects over the years. Bill Wegman at Stockton. Randy Ready. Dion James. Riles was one of those minor league stalwarts. This is off memory, but I remember Riles having phenomenal batting average numbers, probably at El Paso. So, I got excited about him as a prospect. Back then, that’s all I had to go on! But, in reality, he did have a decent hit tool. Staying healthy was an issue. That’s awesome how well he treated a couple of young kids. I wish all people had such grace.
  12. Great post. Slaton was a mainstay in his time. He was on some teams in the earlier 70s that helped build the team for their run in the late 70s to early 80s. In 1982 he had a good comeback year. He was in long relief but he won 10 games and carried out some pivotal work for us keeping us in games that could have gone south.

  14. They squeezed this one in on what was supposed to be an off day due to the games missed from the lockout,
  15. It’s hard to look at the numbers in the lineup but for the prospect aficionados out there, it’s much more fun looking at prospect hitting numbers if you look at the likes of Tyler Black, Frelick, Wiemer, Valerio, Mitchell, Turang, Quero and some others. Knock on wood.
  16. I have been following Weston Wilson for awhile. We normally have someone with that profile almost any year. An unheralded guy without enormous tools but who is steady albeit without eye popping stats.. But he may be doing enough to get a shot. What’s hard to judge is his approach at the plate, whether he can stand in there against a diverse array of pitches, location, off speed, etc and have the juice to produce up here.

  20. In the link report for the 14th, are the links to the box scores working? They seemed like dead links to me unless I’m missing something. PS The reports are spectacular.
  21. I have always found the Brewers-Twins rivalry to be contrived. The Twins have never been on my radar as a team to care about. I am old enough to remember the late 70's teams so you can still get me to recall battling the Yankees, Orioles and Red Sox. The Twins? Not at all.
  22. I haven't heard about the new scheduling model. What are they thinking about changing? One thing i wouldn't mind seeing change, the over-scheduling of divisional games. I understand the importance of divisional games, but the schedule can get boring just playing such an insane number of games versus divisional opponents. If we play the Cubs 19 times and the Mets 7, you could change that to 16 and 10 and still have a higher proportion of divisional games. Teams in dismal divisionals can pad their record as compared with a team in a competitive division.
  23. I have been curious for awhile how the MLB’s proposed international draft would be set up. I found an article linked below that explains it. It is not based on record of the teams. That was precisely my main concern. It would have been overkill for the team with the worst record to have the top pick in the regular draft and the international draft. Imagine the stars aligning and one team drafting Bryce Harper and Fernando Tatis the same year. I also like the proposals on the draft lottery for the regular (rule 4?) draft. Here is the article. Scroll down and it explains the set up. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/international-draft-cba-negotiations.html
  24. Let's be honest, we can upgrade big time. Longevity does not equal talent. I never interacted with him once, because he wasn't worth my time. He has one of the biggest human flaws, an inflated view of his own intelligence and a condescending attitude to his readers, many of whom are considerably smarter than he is.
