  1. Fans should care what free agents the team signs because if the team selects the wrong guy, that contract becomes an albatross for the organization and hampers the team from making other moves because of loss of financial flexibility.
  2. I agree with everything you said. He’s one of a number of guys who I think can help make a devastating bullpen in time, if he’s not a starter himself. I could see him making a big jump in ranking.
  3. I’m honestly doing a 180 on Hader. I think I like him in that relief role. He was a weapon that way. I bet if we charted his outings he made a huge difference extinguishing problems or bridging us to the late innings where we could have had a disaster.
  4. I like what Swarzak did but I wouldn’t give him a third year unless the salary is very reasonable as a trade off. I would not give Arrieta that many years. No way. I think we make some aggressive trades instead of throwing cash at Arrieta. I would not assume that ownership hasn’t learned from Looper, Suppan, Wolf, Lohse, et al.
  5. Another guy I wouldn’t move is Thon. Even if he’s 24 or 25, assuming he was 16 or 17 in 2010 based on the viral yearbook photo of him from Australia, he still has upside. He could play ten years. So, I think his age thing is a red herring. I think he has upside because NBA experience and training cannot be replicated. By upside I don’t mean like Giannis. Giannis is a once in a generation guy, kind of like Olajuwon was coming from Nigeria. He’s got a rare skill set. What I mean about Thon is he can develop into a presence on defense. He can move his feet on p-n-r, he can switch. He’s very long inside and can be tough to shoot over. As he gains strength and experience he can hopefully rebound. He can run the floor and has potential to stretch the floor and shoot 35% from three. Guys like him don’t grow on trees. I like his skill set with Giannis.
  6. I like Bledsoe but there’s no way I would trade Brogdon for him. Gery Woelful asserts there is some lingering latent foot issue with him that I can’t comment on. But I think Brogdon does all the little things and he’s a glue guy that helps a team win games. I think he also has chemistry and plays well with Giannis. He’s younger than Bledsoe and has time on his affordable deal. I would not do that. If Phoenix wants a draft pick and young guys, I’d look at Monroe (expiring), Delladova, and a first or DJ Wilson for Chandler and Bledsoe. Any first should always be protected in case Giannis gets hurt. Monroe’s expiring contract has value because it gets them a year closer to more financial flexibility. They take Delladova for guard depth and making salaries match. The protected first or DJ gives them another young piece. Heck, if it’s a sticking point, make it DJ AND the first to get it done. A problem here is Bledsoe would make it so the Bucks would not have much cap room for the future. For the next two years, there’d be constraints. And I hope Horst is smarter about getting into albatross contracts like Telly and Henson. This thinking has been plaguing the org for years. Think Gadz.
  7. Even being a solid fourth outfielder has good value. Those are important cogs on a roster. If that’s what Stokes ends up being, I think it’s still a success with value. I’m not ready to count on him or anything, but he did have an impressive season. PS, love these threads. They are very good for offseason discussion. Keep ‘me coming. I’m happy to talk ball year round.
  8. Lol those are some hilarious clips
  9. I like a lot of the young Brewers arms as future relievers. We could have a strong bullpen in future years. Some of the following project as relievers. For others, there are only so many spots in the rotation such that some of the projected starters could be nice Brewer relievers. Taylor Williams - I think he’s a solid reliever Kodi Medeiros - if he focuses on relief work, I think he can advance. At a minimum he should be a loogy. Cody Ponce Phil Bickford Freddy Peralta To go with Knebel, who is still young, and maybe even Hader, the Brewers could have a very strong pen in a couple of years.
  10. As a B1G fan, there is no way in a million years that I’d ever take DJ Wilson over OG Anunoby. It will be interesting to see if I’m way off.
  11. 1. Lewis Brinson 2. Keston Hiura 3. Corbin Burnes 4. Freddy Peralta 5. Monte Harrison 6. Brandon Woodruff 7. Brett Phillips 8. Tristen Lutz 9. Lucas Erceg 10. Isan Diaz 11. Phil Bickford 12. Luis Ortiz 13. Jacob Gatewood 14. Mauricio Dubon 15. KJ Harrison 16. Troy Stokes, Jr 17. Trent Clark 18. Cody Ponce 19. Marcos Diplan 20. Taylor Williams 21. Corey Ray 22. Mario Feliciano 23. Kodi Medeiros 24. Josh Pennington 25. Larry Ernesto Others receiving votes (j/k), would be top 25 prospects in other years, but we are so deep: 26. Nathan Kirby (injury situation but could soar if healthy) 27. Carlos Herrera 28. Je'Von Ward 29. Bubba Derby 30. Devin Williams 31. Trey Supak 32. Carlos Rodriguez 33. Adrian Houser 34. Caden Lemons 35. Pablo Abreu 36. Jordan Yamamoto 37. Jean Carmona 38. Franly Mallen 39. Gilbert Lara 40. Jake Nottingham
  12. It may not quite fit, but I remember in the early 80s following Randy Ready’s minor league exploits. He put up some big numbers at El Paso and I was hoping for big things. He just couldn’t adjust to big league pitching for the Brewers but then had a really good year or two for SD and then ultimately lingered with the Phillies into the 90s. The D’Amico, Neugebauer, Mike Jones pitching crash and burns were disappointing because of the hope they represented. But, I don’t know how well we were handling pitchers because there were too many injuries to mention.
  13. Good stuff, Keith. Very well thought out. Thanks for the input.
  14. I like Santana but yes I’d do that trade.
  15. Calm down. It's a discussion board. Go drink a beer.
  16. I agree. I sense a step back next year, although we have to see what kind of moves we make, obviously. I could see us making a big move on a guy like Lance Lynn, although we might get outbid by somebody like the Yankees. I don't want us to sign a crap starter as filler. Get a legit guy like Lynn or pass. We really need to work on the bullpen, obviously. We will have growing pains with Brinson and Phillips. The league will be adjusting to Arcia although I think he's just talented. We have to hope Shaw keeps it up. We have to hope Santana doesn't fall off like Villar did and what Santana showed us legit. Maybe Thames can too although his April seems like a mirage where the league hadn't caught up with him yet. Meanwhile, Theo is running the Cubs so you know they will be proactive and be steps ahead in the acquisition game. Overall, I am guessing next year is a developmental year and by 2019 we have a lot of turnover particularly at pitcher with Burnes, Peralta and maybe some others like Ponce and Ortiz. But there are some position guys who could come up by 2019 when you look at Keston Hiura and Monte Harrison. There are so many ifs, I'd imagine 2018 is a transitional year.
  17. Yeah, I'd say 2019 is the year we get a major influx. But we may get some guys back half of 2018 too
  18. Agree. I think Hiura is going to be a big time, well rounded, hitter. Position is the question, but i think they'll find him a spot. 2b, lf , 1b, they will make room And, a little further down the line, Tristen Lutz might be big time.
  19. The good news regarding the lack of depth in the bullpen and the lack of juice in the lineup is that the cavalry is coming the next couple of years. Picture a pen with Williams, Bickford and Ponce instead of Torres, Drake et al. In the lineup, adding Hiura along with Brinson/Phillips will be a major plus. Longer term, this could go well.
  20. I was hunting for certain stats. Does anyone know how to find any of these: 1. Batting average with RISP 2. Batting average with RISP with two outs 3. Batting average with RISP In seventh inning or later 4. Brewers record with a one or two run deficit in the 7th inning or later, relative to the league 5. Brewers record holding a one or two run lead from seventh inning on, relative to the league 6. Brewers record in one run games 7. Brewers record in extra inning games I'd take anything close to these. Thanks in advance.
  21. Can the Brewers work on a creative strategy to limit the infestation by Cubs fans to Miller Park? Perhaps the Brewers could do something like offer the seats at an exorbitant price, say 2x unless you're purchasing from a Wisconsin or Metro Milwaukee zip code. Those discounted tickets could then be marked in some manner such that, upon admission, the buyer would have to show local ID at the gate for the ticket to be valid. That would avoid an obvious secondary market problem. The out of market fans could still buy - just at an exorbitant premium relative to local fans. The Brewers are in it to make money, but the home town fans would fill the stadium anyway. There should be a win-win scenario where the Brewers can make gobs of money and still keep a hometown advantage. Allowing a competitor to overrun your stadium in a pennant race should not simply be accepted with a defeatist attitude a la Bud Selig. Mark A can be creative.
  22. Jason Terry, Gerald Green, Rush, Marshall...it will be interesting to see what the final roster makeup will be.
  23. I sat behind the netting and literally didn't even think about it. I'd 100% put it up foul pole to foul pole. I was down the first base foul line once, and Prince hit a screaming rocket our way but it missed us in the end. It was scary. I'm not sure I could have protected myself. I stopped sitting in those seats ever since. I'm not going to a game to have to stay on freaking guard of a ball popping me. I want to relax, and not be on high alert like a night guard at NORAD.
  24. Good comments across the board. I agree with the sentiments. The hitting approach late is lacking, big time. You have to second guess Coles at this point. Stearns needs to really improve that pen. Drake, Torres, Hughes, and Barnes should all be replaced. Yes, that's a whopping four spots but we have cash. It's a combination of both, late inning pitching, and lack of hitting both late and with RISP. Santana has had a nice year and hit well but there's still meat on the bone for big improvement. All he needed was a sac fly there and he didn't approach it right. You could see it. Heck, a squeeze might have done it but he probably couldn't execute it. Brinson and Phillips may add nice juice to the lineup. And Braun needs to wake up from his slumber.
