  1. I get that we don't want to mess with success. We are doing well right now by maximizing our cheap starters and our talented and deep pen. However, Suter looks to be going every 5th start and RHB are hitting him for over .870 OPS overall...not even the second or third time through the lineup. Taylor Williams has RHB hitting .470 OPS (lefties are killing him over 1 OPS) off of him. Given theses stats...opening with TWill and bringing in Suter if you KNEW the lineup was predominately RHB is a no-brainer for several reasons. Taylor has starting experience and Suter has BP experience. You are taking your 5th starter and your last reliever and putting them in the best situation to win and possibly get to the 7th in good shape. Furthermore, this leaves better relievers to back up the better performances of the better starters. Even if they failed and another arm had to be used early...there is a good chance that those two were going to provide that if Suter started and TWill came next. At least this way, you are using the opposition's lineup against them and putting your stats to best use. Yes, you have to juggle your BP before and after but that is why you are carrying 7 and 8 arms at a time in the pen. I would love to see this if the opponent provided the lineup.
  2. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23558800/tampa-bay-rays-forefront-rotation-revolution I could easily see MKE and CC doing this with a RHP vs an all righty lineup when Suter was scheduled to start. I am not sure you would want to take Chase or others out of their normal rhythm but it is interesting to totally be in control of matchups in the highest scoring inning when the game is almost always tied.
  3. Sorry if this was posted earlier on the 14 pages of this thread (and I did look). But if TOR jjjust lost out on Yelich why wouldn't they be in on Santana? Stroman for Santana and then fill in the gaps of the deal to even out the trade.
  4. What would have been the comparable Brewer package to send to PIT to get GCole? Annnd why wasn't it sent?
  5. https://calltothepen.com/2017/10/07/san-francisco-giants-outfield-options-reside-milwaukee/ DSpan is moving to left and they are looking for D in CF. Keon would have also put the most HRs in the SF OF. So let's say he is going...who would you want to come back for a straight up trade for Broxton going to San Francisco?
  6. Nelson, Guerra, Garza, Davies, Anderson...Suter, Woodruff, Espino, Blazek to fill in for injuries. The big trade doesn't happen...steady she goes...
  7. As far as pitchers we could see...Hader not moving at all in 2017. Because of the heavy use of the bullpen and Suter and possibly Blazek being used in the rotation, I could see: Jorge Lopez coming back in the pen Woodruff getting rehabbed and used in the rotation, especially since he has had a break in his IP count Espino brought back up Jungmann brought up as he was pitcher of the month in July and had a low WHIP at AAA or Wily P could be cut and Houser could be put on the 60-day DL and both AWilkerson (low WHIP at AA) and Wang (solid work at AAA) could be summoned. BDerby is also an option in this regard... Those are 6+ live arms that could come up...I still think that DS will look for a deal/bargain and try to prepare to cut down on names available to be swiped at the Rule V draft after we do the next 40 man roster. He has to be thinking about that scenario... Burnes is too young to get his clock started this early, he is too limited with his innings...Melvin would have used him but it would seem desperate.
  8. What is Woodruff's timeline for return...anyone hear anything??
  9. Jim 4:36 Do you think the Rockies can sustain their playoff push throughout the year? Jason Martinez 4:36 Yes. I've been saying since early on that they needed another SP who can help carry the load down the stretch*. If Chad Bettis returns cancer-free and back to full strength in August, he could be that guy. I'd expect the Rockies to target a reliable mid-rotation veteran starter next month in any case. *Guerra package for BRodgers...
  10. I wouldn't say they have a lot of work to do, although they obviously will need to continually re-build their pitching staff. Their position player group is set up extremely well for the next 5 years. I would. People throw around the word dynasty way too much. They've won a single World Series. While they have a lot of young talent on their roster it guarantees them absolutely nothing. They have a lot of work to do. They don't have a dynasty; they have a window...a big one and resources and money to keep it open for a while...but not a dynasty.
  11. Time to revisit this thread. COL is making a run in the West and with the sorry NLCentral looking like it will not be providing a wild card participant, if we fall, then wouldn't Guerra to COL be similar to the Sutton trade in '82 (older non ace moves the #5 starter to the pen and makes the rotation better). Feliz or Barnes (depending on the return) could be offered to boost their chances and our return...but for whom?? I don't see them giving BRodgers in exchange for any package at all...Pint can be had after then draft but is not doing well, Tapia adds to our OF jam and the truth is we need to start unloading some of our 40 man roster eligible talent to make the most of our situation. I know a lot of you want to be buyers and may say that we are just as much in it as COL, but I still don't think that that will happen this year...hence this seller's thread...but it may not be worth it.
  12. They are both free agents and yes up and down. Cowart's WAR is 7th highest in MLB and a huge uptick vs Arcia's WAR. I think Storen won't match ODrake's huge WHIP on his worst day... VRoache was sold to LAD...who else is on the outs, maybe a pitcher that is getting passed by Supek, Burnes, FPeralta, or Ponce. Coultier, YRivera, and take all of the CIN salaries. I can live without those two and send Arcia down for a few months and move Dubon up after that.
  13. Reds call wanting to package Cowart and Storen to Milwaukee and Mark Attanasio looks at you and says to get it done. Who do you offer? What do you do with Arcia?
  14. AAA LHB have a .418 OPS vs Hader; all hitters vs Hader have a .793 OPS in May after a .792 OPS in April. I think we have our LOOGY for free if this keeps up. Hader is working on specific pitches and Brewers mgmt isn't too worried about his overall numbers, but that OPS vs LHB is impressive. Oddly enough LHB have a .444 OPS vs Woodruff (RHB have a .762 OPS), but all hitters have a .742 OPS in May after a .540 OPS in April. Although this is Colorado, he is going to have to keep that OPS from going further north whether he replaces a starter or a reliever. Knebel, Barnes, Feliz, Wily P, CTorres > Hader > (choose 1 or 2 of) Scahill, Hughes, ODrake, Cravy, Suter, Espino Barring a trade (that may not be necessary).
  15. Hader has been told not to worry about numbers but to concentrate on using secondary pitches more often and anywhere in the count so he will not be as impressive on paper. Hader is going to be a late year call up if we are still in it. Getting to "still in it" will be up to our hitters and the collection of Counsell's castoffs in the pen (JHughes, ODrake, now Peralta) and the fun part of the field player rosters. Junior comes back as the Ace, Garza simply holds form, JNelson, Davies, and Chase will be the rotation unless one bottoms out then maybe Woodruff. I can't see a major trade for Cole or Quintana NOR can we deadline trade Garza, move JNelson to the 'pen and expect to "still be in it" with what is left...
  16. As the roster stands today: SP: JrGuerra, ZDavies, JNelson, Garza, ChaseA Minors: Hader, LOrtiz, Woodruff, TaylorWill, JLopez RP: CTorres, Jhan, JBarnes, Knebel, Milone/Suter, Wily P, and either Jungmann/Cravy/Wilkerson Minors: those that don't make it and DMagnifico INF: Thames, Villar, Arcia, TShaw Minors: IDiaz, GCooper, YRivera, Dubon, Erceg OF: KBrox, Braun, DSantana, KirkN Minors: LBrinson, BPhillips, RCordell C: Susac, Jett minors:JNott Reserves: HPerez, Scooter, MReed/Elmore
  17. I disagree about DMagnifico; I think he is more in line for the CS closer job. I would rather see inning eaters Cravy or AWilkerson (0.947 at AA Portland and 1.083 at AAA Pawsox) get a shot rather than DMagnifico. Also in addition to those 4, I would add LOOGY Suter or Milone and maybe Jungmann's two pitch arsenal or Wily P's heavy fastball. Hader, LOrtiz, Taylor Williams, JLopez and maybe Woodruff keep me thinking that some starters will be moved to the pen or outta town.
  18. If Braun was traded for pitching at the 2017 trade deadline would it be terrible to have L Brinson in CF, Keon in LF, and DSantana in RF? BPhillips would be in AAA CF or have a path to that and more ab for more OF in the future... That would be a fun and fast OF!
  19. NolanBratt...good work there! More than a lil surprised at who was listed as starters and who found themselves in the 'pen. I guess this is something that is going to sort itself out...but it seems to be the makings of another messy 40 man roster decision coming next year.
  20. So my point is (and I feel this way about the Packers too) if not the playoffs then don't you want the best pick available? The Bregmans and Correas are not to be had picking #9~14 every year.
  21. Brew 4 U...you are my witness...I said my 65 before I saw this but Fangraphs is pretty much my thinking...I am not convinced of Thames or Arcia progression...and what if these guys get injured? Pitching will have more of a say in the record than our lineup...and I am not thrilled with it, but could see some gains by Jungmann, a Hader push, and ZDavies having an even better year. (edit) Keon should have a much better year...should have mentioned that. I know I am still talking about predictions, not projections, but the two go hand-in-hand. Does anyone think that MIN fans saw a sub-60 win team this time last year? Fan is short for fanatic and fanboy expectations are usually off.
  22. Kind of my point with Jett's spirit...thanks.
  23. Brew4U...we can debate this point on another page but... This is not a good team with Braun and I think that starters and Braun are gone soon...and I am ok with that..but we are not a 75 win team now and really won't be then. The homer skew on these sites is very real and I am actually pulling for a top 3 draft pick if we are not going to be in the wild card conversation.
  24. Read in another link as well that Jett is supposedly the loose clubhouse guy that others gravitate towards. Good! this 65 win club will need one of those. He also said that he hates striking out...a great thing to hear out of such a big guy. I like the youth, extra control, lower salary, and 40% CS rate. Deal.
  25. This may have been mentioned before but could Dubon be insurance if Arcia just isn't a MLB hitter?? Arcia's MLB stay is not guaranteed and the slick fielder may be moved by a very good glove with a good bat.
