When Will Keston Hiura Arrive In Milwaukee?
brewcrewdue80 replied to RollieTime's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yeah it was mentioned on Super 2 we already control him 7 seasons upon calling him up. He just goes through 4 years of Arbitration vs a 4th year of major league minimum. I'm just in the mindset that clearly these days you lock up guys that go through your farm with these expectations pretty early. Takes out the Super 2/Arb worries like that. Someone then mentioned to do the extension for 8 years. I never quite get that. You control Hiura through 2025 and that 8th year would only be 2026. Any extension should go for 3 years where you have options to pick up in year 9 or just 10. You're likely getting the best value with the added non-FA years than the typical extension price. You'd probably get in the 13mil range vs the 20 or higher he's getting in FA or commanding. You also lock down that avoidance to a very high Arb year. So, Bring him up and see the kid produce or not. Or not can always mean sending him down and rewinding that clock before Super 2 status. -
When Will Keston Hiura Arrive In Milwaukee?
brewcrewdue80 replied to RollieTime's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Just realize I'm not sitting over here expecting Hiura to rake like 1+ OPS. Just if he's producing more than a .650 OPS, it is better than what Shaw is giving us. Taking Shaw's Lefty bat out of the lineup and RH bat for Hiura, may mean more play for Thames over Aguilar which adds to the offense to this point. It's just Hiura is on a .472 6HR 8:7 bb/k rate in his last 11 games. While Shaw is at a .122 0HR 4:12 BB/K in last 11 games of hitting. Hiura's BA is higher alone than Shaw's OPS in that span at a measly .372. There's just not much justification to not make the move. You have a quality/experienced 3b in Moose to take over for Shaw and then Hiura fits in at 2b. Getting more production in the lineup solved. -
When Will Keston Hiura Arrive In Milwaukee?
brewcrewdue80 replied to RollieTime's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I don't really mean for 1 series, just the idea of calling him up while sending down Shaw is genius. Hiura has 10HRs a near .350 BA. Rewarding him with some ML games and seeing how he fares vs a Cubs pitching staff that is very Anti-Shaw. Just a great time to make the move. We all always remember the flops from the minors, and have been given a lot of it lacking in performance to higher expectations in Arcia/Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff. At the same time there's Hader who's been nothing but spectacular from the get go. I called the idea on bringing up Hiura earlier in the season too soon. Right around that 24ks to 1st walk of the season. He's clearly battled through that and is in a dominating period. Give him a grace period 2-4 weeks and allow Shaw to have earned his way back in the lineup while seeing if Hiura should stick at 2b. You need an offensive push if you're going to beat the Cubs currently and Shaw is not going to provide that vs. that pitching staff. -

You guys are geniuses. Shaw optioned before the Cubs series. Moose to 3rd, Hiura at 2b. Give Keston his taste up and see how long it lasts. Shaw currently is listed as -.5WAR on the season. Just waiting for him to produce back up to norm. So where's Alex Wilson? DFA'd at -.6WAR value. Cubs are on a 7game win streak likely going to be 10 of 11 game winners when the series begins. Hiura is White Hot right now. Hasn't K'd in 5 games with 5BBs. 6HRs in 11games. Slugging .780 on the season. You can't just bow down to the Cubs with Shaw while having Hiura. A weapon to play vs them and keep them from getting a 6 game leg up on us in the division. In no term, can you suggest Shaw will break out of his funk while playing vs the Cubs pitchers. The Crew may just find out they have their Cub killer lineup to throw against in need of the Playoffs. Let's find out. -

The Brewers are 3 Games back of the Best Record in Baseball. As negative as this team can feel, and the opponents they've faced, they are well within reach being the best team in Baseball. -
2019 Green Bay Packers Draft Picks and Discussion
brewcrewdue80 replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
I didnt assign the players value as to where they were Mocked. I said I did it where they were projected to go. You can have top 10 pick, top 15, late 1st, early second. 2nd/3rd. Ect. Savage was a late 1st/2nd rd projection. I dont have a problem with his selection. Gary was a first rd projection not top 10. When #12 arrived i pointed out 3 other similar players were still on the board. It gave the opportunity to trading down and still get one of those types or your next BPA. When I made the values it is based on their projection. Again the PRO-JECT-ION. Not where I seen them mocked. And I asked to 0 reply where the Packers got Value from any of the picks? It was a lost opportunity when moving down from 12 didnt happen, while having full knowledge they were going to move up to take Savage costing the 2 4ths. Also disagreeing with my assessment on Gary and the saying look look at those COMBINE numbers! But then constant anyone but DK Metcalf because he was a combine results player. Or if Im remembering incorrectly another WR that had combine impressive helium but not what you wanted to draft at 12. You realize that is your hype right? Gary's combine results. The word that he was double or triple teamed for lack of numbers and production. Now he's going to be playing a different position it sounds. So he has to learn that position and yet scored a 9 on the wonderlic. A test making correct answers under timed pressure. What good is all that combine talent if he attacks the wrong gap? Falls hard for play action with the new Hockenson/Fant TEs to go against in the division? I made an opinion. The responses could have just disagreed as I am towards the positive opinions on the draft. But chose instead to attack, denounce, question my sanity in the opinion I made. Go back and find when I did any of that? Prior to the response on Hitights comment. -
2019 Green Bay Packers Draft Picks and Discussion

The only thing going over anyone's head is you just making these wild claims about players values. You assign a negative value to the selection of Rashan Gary...and then when you're asked where on Earth you're getting these from, you come back with Jimmy Johnson's formula telling people how to google it. The problem there.....you're making everything else up. Let me ask you this, how much value does Lukas Denis, S, Boston College* have? He was mocked to go 14th overall, yet he fell out of the first round. Come to think of it...he fell out of the draft! MY GOD, TAMPA BAY GOT +1100 POINTS!!! That's incredible. If that doesn't impress you, how about the Kiper draft that had David Edwards and Ben Benzschawel going 19th and 20th? Do you NOT see the utter futility in trying to assign a value on the actual PLAYERS...not the picks, the ACTUAL human beings associated with the picks because in your mind...and that's really all we have to go off of as you've done NOTHING to show us that Rashan Gary was projected to be there 5 picks after the Packers picked other than just say so while others have pointed out several that had him going in the top 10(in fact, I just saw one that had him going 3rd). YOU-DON'T-KNOW-ANYTHING about these players, you don't know anything about the front office and more importantly, you don't have a clue as to what they were THINKING regarding these players. You're just guessing. And it's not even an educated guess. And I don't say that as an insult, I say that as someone who's self-aware enough to know what I don't know. And as I've said repeatedly, we have no idea where these guys are going to be picked, we don't know hardly anything about them other than what we see in the 5 minutes we've spent looking into them as opposed to the thousands and thousands of hours these scouting staffs spent meticulously putting together their board and the hundreds of hours after that they discussed the thousands of hours of tape and interviews and conversations they had. But you think you can boil ALL that down to, "I saw mock drafts where Gary went 17th," and then claim the Packers essentially gave away certain draft picks because of mock drafts YOU'VE seen that don't match the ones that have actually been posted on here? This is insane. I just can't fathom why we're taking some guy at Bleacher reports mock draft that he probably threw together with little thought because...well, mock drafts get hits, as gospel and just ignoring the fact that the PROFESSIONALS who do this know more than you. Also, when we get confirmation that teams wanted Gary and or Savage...like the Raiders who were going to take Savage, and then the speculation that the Giants were trying to trade UP from 17 to get Gary at 10, doesn't that right there nullify your entire argument? It's all null and void now. You created this fictional narrative that these players would have been available AND not only would they have been available, but that there were teams who wanted to trade with us...and presumably give us exactly equal compensation for doing so on Jimmy Johnson's draft guide......but that's since been dispelled. So the question now is, have you just dug your heels in too far, or are you still sticking with this concept that Rashan Gary's selecetion was worth -112 points(or however many you assigned to it? Whats insane is your clear angst towards somebody's thought process and grading their opinion to a team's draft. Holy high horse there man. Hows the view from way up there? Whats worse is your quoted reply wasnt addressed to your post. I didnt say it was over Your head but you certainly got big brother tough and decided you had to use fighting words. Ffs dude take a chill pill. You're argument is I dont know nothing what is going on as if your opinion on Gary comes from the fact you totally do. -
I like that. But pitching matchups, I gotta go 1-1 vs Col. 3-0 vs Mets. 1-2 vs Nats. Scherzer/Strasburgh vs Anderson/Peralta 2-1 vs Cubs 1-2 vs Phi 2-1 vs Atl 2-0 vs Cin 2-1 vs Phi 1-1 vs Min 2-0 vs Pitts All told 17-10

Not sure if this is fully true, but MLBTR has a post that says the Cubs will option Addison Russell to AAA where he's allowed to play while being suspended the entire year? It says from a 40 game suspension for violating the domestic violence policy. Being down in AAA he will not accrue service time. I'm not sure I understand the suspension part. Did Chicago suspend him the entirety of the season on top of MLB's 40game suspension? But more confusing is that it says he will be activated from the restrictive list Thursday and then optioned. Thursday clearly hasn't been 40 games. wooop okay I guess he has been serving already from 2018. So now that means Chicago team suspended him the rest of the entire 2019 season? Or is MLBTR just smoking crack? The piece goes on saying he won't accrue any service time while he's down in AAA serving his suspension but allowed to play down there.

2019 Green Bay Packers Draft Picks and Discussion
brewcrewdue80 replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
This is how I feel about the draft. I'm not angry as someone mentioned, just upset how it transpired. The first 5 picks look like they'll contribute this season. The RB maybe as well. The CB/LB picks I'll just assume as Special Teams help at best. I just said the value side in the draft wasn't there. If you take the trade value points it'd go something like this: Gary 1200-Even to -200 Savage 924- Even to -124 Jenkins 460- Even to -60 Sternberger 215- +50 to Even Kiki 31 +35 to Even -88 for 4th round loss. Riley Ridley went to the Bears after what would have been the Packers selection. He was a 3rd round type projection. All told thats -3 to -384 The equivalent of a late 2nd round pick to late 3rd round pick. Which is probably what the value you would have been looking at on trading down from 12 a few spots. Draft Grade C- How exactly are you coming up with these numbers? -200 for Gary? -124 for Savage? Are these just mock drafts you've chosen to use or what? Please explain. Because I'd be curious how many points the team that picked Polite, a guy who was a top 10 pick in some mocks got for going in the 3rd round? Or Deionte Thompson, the S from Alabama who was also a top 15 prospect in a lot of mocks in the 5th round? And be honest, would you really even know of Riley Ridley if he wasn't Calvin Ridley's little brother? You talk about Rashan Gary, but Ridley tested in the bottom 15 pct among WR'ers(equal to or worse than the 6'4, 280 LB Gary who played inside in college, NOT WR'er). He also struggled with drop balls and never caught 6 passes or had 90 yards in a game, despite playing with great QBs at Georgia. Now when I saw he was available late in the 4th round, I was all on board with the Packers taking him. Because I'd seen lazy mock drafts that had him listed higher for some reason. Looking back, it clearly wasn't because of his actual production or because of his great athletic ability. Also, can we PLEASE acknowledge that there are about 100 players who are mentioned in somebody's mock draft as being a 1st round pick, and it just gets worse from there. Take all the mocks and there are about 3X as many players mocked to each round as there are picks. So I don't care what mocks had Ridley in them as a 2nd rounder. I didn't see any after his poor combine showing and I do believe if his name wasn't Ridley, nobody would even give him a seconds thought. But the biggest takeaway from this is you're again, stating something as fact, attributing negative "value points" to the selections of Gary and Savage(when we know now Savage would not have been available) and you're doing so using a 30 some year old OUTLINE for valuing draft picks used by Jimmy Johnson and you're trying to somehow make this a mathematical equation. You cannot possibly try to quantify Gary's "value" relative to Jimmy Johnson's system, and you especially can't do it if you're going to go with the lowest you saw the Packers players picked and then contrast that with the HIGHEST you saw a player we could have had if we'd kept our 4th round picks. I wonder if Mack Wilson would have been taken in the 4th round if you'd be using him as an example as he was rated much higher. Or Greedy Williams, another player who was once considered a top 10 pick and on eplayer unlikely to be available at the Packers pick. I come up with those numbers based off the Trade Value of the picks and from the gist and projections on the picks. On Savage the number -124 is based on the value of the picks we gave up to move to 21. Savage as a projection was late 1st early 2nd. It honestly should be worse in that regard. Gary -200 is on the premise we traded down 1-4 spots while still getting him/equal quality of player. Jenkins went in the 2nd where projected. Sternberger in the 3rd where projected. Ridley had a late 2nd early 3rd projection and then went to the Bears at 126. Just sorta put a number together where he was projected less the Packers 118th pick. Todd McShay calls the Bears selection of Ridley their most value pick in this draft. I've got no problem with the flak I'm getting with the statements I've made. It's just my opinion, and I was trying to show a value take on why to go along with the question, What pick did GB get value with? I did my own search and proved it was none or negative. I could have gone more in to another 4th rd lost selection but I cancelled that out since I was looking for a pick from trading down and then still considered the trade up for Savage. Taking a value of 0 being a C grade and then seeing negative, I give the draft a C- grade. -

2019 Standings and Playoff Races Discussion
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
So, looked at the Standings. Cubs are ahead of us by pct. points since they've played less games than Milw. How many? 4! I only see one postponement so the schedule makers just gave them extra days off. Same with Pittsburgh. And our May while having 4 days off, it's only 1 til the 20th, so we'll be 4 games played ahead, if not 5, by the time May 20th comes. The nice thing at that point is, I see Pitt makes up their PPD in a 4 game series vs Cin before hosting us for 4 games. We should be well rested while they are on fumes with 5 games in 4 days. Oh and the talk of April's schedule being brutal, it's still brutal up until that May 20th day off. Schedule looks so much easier from that point through July's Trade Deadline. Getting through this stretch above .500, we'll be in great position to start playing .660 ball and climb the standings. Tampa is doing something odd in that they've started Ryan Stanek now 6 games going 1 or 2 innings. Then pitching a long man and completing the final 2 or 3 innings normally. Stanek has also made 7 other bullpen appearances. Glasnow is 5-0 in 6 starts under 2 ERA still. -

You have a pretty serious discrepancy between what you know as fact and what you state as such. Here's a fact. Gary wasn't even listed in our poll for #12. Complete afterthought. Not a single soul would say that's because he was going top 3 or 5. Murray, Bosa, Allen, and Williams were clear top 5 predicts. Prior to Gary being picked: 0 times you seen his name in the thread. Peavey you participated in the poll. Never mentioned Gary being a top 12 choice nor question why he wasn't an option to vote for. Just keep sitting there telling yourself Gary was worth the pick at 12. I'll maintain my questioning of his selection as a fact he won't live up to a #12 selection.
