  1. What's the maximum allowable innings for Nelson this year? 100? 120? 150? I'd rather he be in extended spring training until May 1. I don't want him having too many limitations, and I'd hate to see him doing well in the pennant chase when he gets pulled for surpassing an innings allotment Why not in the 170s? as the last 3 seasons he pitched reached?
  2. Yep, if the Brewers try to pull these sort of shenanigans with a veteran ML pitcher in order to backdoor their way to an extra year of control, they deserve all the negative press they'd be likely to get. Fortunately I don't think Stearns and the rest of the team's management would even think of operating this won I put the thought out there but apparently ignored was the question I posed while the scenario regaining year of control occurred. Nelson Starts the season in the minors. Nelson while on the mound suffers a setback and or reinjury. Nelson while playing in the minors is out on DL for 2 or 3 months while back in Rehab. On that instance, Is Nelson accruing any Service time? I would think not being optioned down there? The train of thought on the possibility of a setback and that reward, was agreeing to a poster who says start the season at AAA. Because if he goes out there game #5 pitching for Brewers, has to be shutdown, his service clock will run while spending another season not pitching for the team on the DL.
  3. Maybe you find a buyer for Kratz before the beginning of the season? There always seems to have a catcher start a season injured. You wouldn't get much obviously, but you have Nottingham in case for a 3rd and backup next season. We lost Bobby Wahl for the season, maybe you get a team's AAAA RP. It is really awful to have overlooked Pina since Pina is a stud defensively with a better bat potential.
  4. What the 26man does is add 182 days? is it? of service time to the Players. but at the same time, limiting to 28 in Sept should a team have used more of that 40man takes away on the young guys that could be playing. Now does having a 26man mean that you don't get a "26th" man when there's a doubleheader? Or does that go on to 27th man now? A poster also suggested to speed up the pitching change concept with only a motion from the dugout and a cart out to the mound. Now, there are many occasions when you see a pitcher mow down 2 batters to start an inning and then give up a hit, walk, and now the 3rd batter comes to the plate. Nobody up to that moment was warming up in the bullpen, coach calls someone to warmup. Smack, another hit on 1st pitch. Time to remove the guy. The warmup in the bullpen is 1 or 2 pitches in. So, How does that work? You often see that slow walk up to the mound and on field discussion as the way to get the bullpen guy his chance to warm up and not suck and injure himself immediately following. What are you going to do? mandate that someone is constantly "warmed/warming" up in the bullpen regardless the game situation? You make the pitcher that's lost it continue to throw meatballs or wildly until there's an arm ready to call on? It's just like when you see an ump or catcher after getting hit by a pitch, the other semi walks out towards the pitcher while giving the one just hit by a ball a chance to recover himself. It's gamesmanship. All for the pitch clock as you know there are guys that are just time-wasters, just like certain batters every pitch. I'd probably open up the September rule to 30 guys because there are always teams that have good minor call-ups who are out of the playoff equation and can give fans something to come to home games to see. Think about the Padres this year, they have such a young group to call-up that a limitation on 3 or 2more would affect a potential top 25 prospect being able to play in September..... I do realize this is applying to 2020 and likely SD gets to use numerous of those guys during this year and September. But who's it going to be in 2020 stacked like SD is currently?
  5. It is 2 games in a row to non-ranked teams in Villanova and Creighton. Said it after the Creighton game on FB they are now a bubble 4seed most likely. Winning out I think gets them to a 3seed. Losing 1 is a 4seed. Losing 2 or more will be worse as they'll have a 5-5 last 10 game record.
  6. If true than okay gives the deal more sense then.
  7. It'll be interesting with the 2 options as Nelson currently sits at 4.107 service time. So if he happened to be sent down to the minors around 120days? that doesn't add to that service time, the Brewers would gain another year I believe in control? In a way they get the year back they lost last season. Not being ready for Opening day and pitching down in the minors to start the season, if he has a setback down there this becomes a realistic possibility. Meantime, you give Burnes/Woodruff/Davies/ and Anderson their chance to hold down a SP role.
  8. My suggestion versus a salary floor. All teams must have at least two players who's combined salary is twice the previous season's QO rate. so, 18mil is 36mil. A team like Miami must have 2 players that add up to 36mil. Could just be Manny Machado at 30mil and some random who makes over 6mil that season. Maybe that is a rule for teams who get revenue sharing. And the teams that revenue share must put 3 of those players on a roster yearly. You base a QO on avg of top 75 right? So low 15=30players top 15=45 total 75. Make that work either signing FAs or giving high pay to prospects on early extensions paying them up front to reach that arbitrary "36mil" on at least 2 players.
  9. New Head Coach. Expected to run the ball more. Best Tackle available at 12. As of 2/9 Walter Football listed Jawaan Taylor, Greg Little, Cody Ford, and Jonah Williams top 4. You want Rodgers to buy in to the run game scheme. 1st pick a tackle that not only helps protect him when passing, but helps produce some running lanes for a RB. Was Bulaga the last Offensive player drafted 1st? Looking, nope Derrek Sherrod but at 32, Bulaga the season before in 2010. Tired of going in to a season with Bulaga as the RT knowing he has an injury coming some point that season. After that, I don't care what they draft. I don't think the top 4 guys I listed above had a very good combine overall(if even all 4 participated) but, they have game tape to judge before that and maybe can slide down a few spots while still getting the #1 OT off their board now with these showings.
  10. 10/300=30per 13/330=~25.4per. That's 4.6mil a year less. I gave 4.5mil a modest 6.5% return if invested over 10 years. What is 45mil base at the 10year mark becomes $64,872,836. On that modest return he'd only need 10mil? over the next 3years signed to earn 330mil. But you know, he didn't go to College so maybe he has zero sense when it comes to investing. Pay a guy to do it for him. 10y/$300M plus 3y/$0 = 13y/$300M I'll take the 13y/$330M over that every single time. No investment tricks necessary. It is strange to assume he doesn't already have a well established investment strategy in place though. He's been in professional baseball since 2010. It's sorta a knock that he took a 25.4mil AAV deal over the 10/300 supposedly offered by the Nats. 330>300 right? But 30>25.4 A basic Mutual fund and time value in money he's losing out on the 10/300 deal vs this one. David Ortiz made 16mil each of his final two seasons, I put a small return over 10years investing that difference and he needs 10mil+ over the 3 years following the 10. 6.5% return. They suggest plan for 8% return. Aggressive long term mutual seeing as he's so young he should be seeing 10+% return on mutual funds long term. It's the kind of difference that good returns and he's retiring with buying a large stack in a team vs less of a stake for an example.
  11. 10/300=30per 13/330=~25.4per. That's 4.6mil a year less. I gave 4.5mil a modest 6.5% return if invested over 10 years. What is 45mil base at the 10year mark becomes $64,872,836. 12. That depends on whether he thinks he'll be able to sign a 3-year / $30M contract when he's 36 in ten years. He's guaranteeing himself $30M more dollars with this deal, regardless of health or performance. 10/300 is way better than 13/330. That is 30per vs 25.5 per hes getting. Simply investing 4.5mil per year the next 10years he'll have earned quite an amount that he wouldnt need 30mil in those 3 years to equal what he took.
  13. It's a Meh deal. Cardinals have a guy that can give them 200IP and most likely below 4 ERA. Seems he's added a good 3rd pitch while away in a slider to reduce his reliance on a FB/CB mix. Now in hitter's defense, coming from overseas with a new pitch that was superbly effective, they have had an offseason to study this and make an adjustment. Realistically, Cardinals don't have a SP making a big salary, securing a guy that will give them 200IP below 4ERA is well worth it.
  14. Arenadocs bat is far more consistent than Heywards who didnt have an .800 OPS the 3years leading to his Contract. 28 years old prime for a bat like his likely 5years. Before an impactful decline even starts to begin. That's why hes paid more and have no problem seeing him produce above its value. He's the new Adrian Beltre for Fantasy only hes 37+HRs 110+RBIs vs 30/100RBI
  15. Going back 4 years happens to have Arenado's worst season of the 4 and includes Harper's best season by a long shot over the last 3. Machado had a slightly better than career avg for that year. BRef has Harper at 10WAR in 2015 but the last 3 a combined total of 10.4. You can still put Harper as the best hitter of the trio but it's not that far ahead as this 4year sample indicates and if done by 3 year totals Harper's WAR would be quite a bit lower than just below Nolan/Manny.
  16. Well, he is still playing in Colorado so none of that matters for concerns. It'd be different if he was given this contract to play say in San Diego. While playing at Coors he's worth this easily and proven so.
  17. Does that mean the Tv's in the concourse will be on a 8 second delay? That's lame if that's true. I was concerned with that too, but it says Clubhouse/bullpen. So I'd have to think no?
  18. So found this on ESPN's MLB home page. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26034573/mlb-putting-new-rules-place-curtail-sign-stealing Going to some extremes to curtail sign stealing aside from the typical on 2b stealing.
  19. Watched Solo today. I got lost on how Emilia Clark's character is written. Separated to a great knowledgeable Somebody in the hierarchy of the villain within the film. Also, the guy who played young Solo, it seemed a number of scenes he portrayed Ford's voice well and others sounding like Chris Pine. Oh and L3 was a big problem of character they wrote in with Lando's emotional tie-in? There felt like some political reference being tossed in on her...it's? dialogue with today's society. I was still entertained by the movie and if it was on it's own story with no ties to any Star Wars history, it'd even feel better.
  20. My take is. Thames is a casualty and moved or just waived. Gamel makes his OF ability a non-factor and the combo of Shaw/Moose makes Perez the 5th OF in a pinch. One poster mentioned his PH stats below Mendoza line and that makes sense with his K-issues. I wouldn't save him to play the majority PH role. Perez has got to be the emergency SS right? So I'd probably expect him as a late inning Defensive replacement vs Starter, which honestly is how I see him. Shaw is right in that he should be the starting 3b. It'll be interesting how Moose transitions to 2b. Saying that kinda makes you wonder about the move. I almost have that this ensures depth for an Aguilar decline feeling. Turning to Shaw at 1b more often, and now you have 3b protected, with SS still covered with Perez.
  21. Commish should come out with a set date to sign FAs to avoid this mess. Before Spring Training begins. Maybe they set it where by January 15th they can agree to an amount between agent and teams. After Jan 15 MLB along with Players Union puts out a yearly salary said FA should and will be earning per year. You then have a blind auction on years for teams to meet that said amount. For instance say 3 teams bid in this auction and 1 is 1year, 2nd is 3 years, and 3rd is 4years. 4 years takes the FA. No more waiting/collusion problems. Now, sure first argument is going to be said player doesn't want to play in that state. Well, buddy, you had til Jan 15th to sign with where you wanted to go. We talked with the Players Union and came to a price that should be what you're worth and teams lost the ability to sign you at or below by not coming to an agreement before Jan. 15th. Now, I'd state this rule applies to FAs who have been worth more than 6WAR combined in last 3 years. (4.5 if missed a season to injury) If you hadn't been worth this then you're just a role player, you ought to be taking a deal and glad you can play for a MLB team still. Consider an Arbitration for FAs if it comes to this.
  22. I think I triggered a few using the word Piggyback like it's something that will be done all the time. So I'll go in to the thought process on what I mean. Offensively, this team should be improved at scoring runs by removing Santana/Broxton and high K tendencies replaced with more contact ability. Also Grandal's addition in to the lineup. Games can be blowouts vs. so many close games. Counsell will use guys like Woodruff and Guerra for 3-4IP stints. Save the back end of the bullpen for higher pressure situations. This isn't indicating that every Davies' start Guerra will finish it off. Just indicating when any starter has a blowup game or the offense has a 7-1 lead after 5, with a tired overused bullpen, you finish that game off with 1 arm vs. 3.
  23. Sure but we really have no other choice, we do not have a single pitcher who can reliably break 160 IP or that can reliably work its way through the order a 3rd time. We pretty much have to go with a bullpen heavy strategy. It is going to tax the AAA/AA depth a bit as we will probably have to make some moves just to get fresh arms onto the team at some points. Chacin has gone longer than 160IP each of last two seasons. Nelson went 170+ 3 straight years prior to his injury. Anderson has had 3 occasions of above 150 IP(point noted) Burnes highest total to date in a single season seems to be 145, but you know he could eclipse 160. Same can be said for Peralta after last year an increase above 160. Woodruff went 158 so another likely capable increase above 160. Davies pitched 191 in 2017. Junior Guerra had ~148IP last season. That is 8 pitchers who should be able to bring 160 IP or more out of them if needed. You could go numerous times during the year stretching the starters 7IP if the bullpen needed rest, or just Piggyback 1 with the other 2 extra SPs giving bullpen a rest. I know your point is valid with "reliably" but it's not like years past 2015 for example where you are handing starts to Tyler Cravy, Ariel Pena, Jorge Lopez, Tyler Wagner, and a 22yr old Rookie Zach Davies. Pitching wasn't what held 2018's team back, the hitting did. We're most definitely stronger as a staff heading in to 2019 than the staff was for 2018.
  24. Clearly top two starters are Chacin and Burnes now. Nelson/Davies/Anderson probably 2 there with 1 injured/not worthy after spring training. Then Peralta or Woodruff whoever looks sharpest in spring training. You'll have Hader Kneble and Jeffress to back end RP. Its a solid setup with lots of potential. Nelson/Anderson have had great past season's, Burnes potential, could be best in Central
  25. Wow this is at 36pages? Keston Hiura will play for Milwaukee and solve 2b for 7 seasons...more with an extension. He has a 70 rating Hit tool. He's going to be a .300 hitter and better in his years ahead. Aside from Guerrero Jr. he has the best hit tool forthcoming currently. Get on the hype train and prepare for his arrival vs signing/trading for any scrubs.
