  1. I'm thinking Arcia and Phillips will debut. Hader too. Lopez should get some starts. Reed, Liriano, Davies, Magnifico. I'm not worried about starting Arcia/Phillips clock post Super 2 status. They will be contract extenders beyond the team control at some point. Villar or Gennett I see one being traded away in July as some team will have a need for middle infield. That will open the door for Arcia. The lack of CF performance is what opens the door for Phillips.
  2. It's last day of April. The month of May won't change much. But come June that's when you expect the cutoff of Super 2 status. June will also spark the lead up to trades for July. The moves will come then. This trial will be over and newer ones begun....but with guys who have higher ceilings.
  3. Didn't we just do this during the offseason? We have a new pitching coach that probably needs more than 25 games to make judgement on. Brew4u, you missed this 2nd sentence after your response to bolded statement. followed by maybe the new man's voice is an adjustment being made that leads to these results.
  4. 5 Quality starts thus far. a .299BAA. Cubs #1 at .199BAA. Yes they have Arrieta. But also 32yr old Lester, 33yr old Hammel, and 37yr old Lackey. Jason Hammel for any other team 4.25ERA or higher. Cubs Cubs 3.23. It is pretty clear to me they are winning at teaching their pitchers to be better. Garza was better for Cubs, Samardzija was better for Cubs. We haven't turned any starter around to any level resembling what the Cubs are doing to 2-3Starters a year now for last 6? seasons? Same can probably be said for St Louis improving their pitching staff. Fire the Pitching Coaches and find new blood. Keep doing it until you find someone that makes a difference. That said, it happened over last offseason. Maybe the tutelage is a work in progress and changes are part of the reason for the early season production.
  5. What Rivera needs(playing time) is what Walsh needs....you think pinch hitting and 1start in a week will lead to consistent results? It's like oh he's 1-19 doesn't belong. We've played 20games! That's 1AB per game avg? It's not enough to draw conclusions. Get him 90% of starts at 2b these next 2weeks and then draw a conclusion. This is a great stretch to find out if he can be of value. He fails then return him solves 25man-40man when DL listers are fixing to be activated.
  6. I've seen Ragland as projection. Sounds like AJ Hawk only not at 5th pick. Mayock mock had Dodd being available. I'd love him to be pick. Measurables plus reading he doesn't relax on any play. I hadn't read him being available in other mocks going around 20. I will do cartwheels if Dodd lands to Packers.
  7. Hopefully Walsh gets starts and not moved behind Perez for starts.
  8. And even then it better make a major difference in the return for eating that much of the contract. Past $18mil is borderline ridiculous and extremely unlikely. It would take too much for a team trading for him to even make sense of it. You're paying the deferred payments. It would be 2mil a year 2022-2031. Maybe it becomes something where he takes on a future roll as a coach. Hitting would be obvious. He's going to collect a check from Milw. May just come back to the organization. Begin the next future of a minors coach. Didn't take Bonds long to reach the Majors in that role.
  9. The only part of his contract I'd eat would be the deferred 18mil over 2022-2031. You're left with 5/75 or 6/86 if both sides pick up the option. 15mil. That puts him in Russell Martin, Yadier Molina, and even Miguel Montero territory. Mid 60s overall per year. Mike Leake, John Lackey(37),Melvin Upton and even Marco Estrada next season. He proved it last night his bat is special at any moment. Best team in Baseball and he calmly drives in 2 with a double team down 4-1. Playoff teams need that kind of hitter. He's been there and done it. Washington just paid Daniel Murphy 8/12/17.5-3/37.5mil for what he had done in last season's post-season. His bat won the Chc series. Braun has that capability and an owner will go about acquiring him if they see him as the missing piece ala Cespedes.
  10. This is what I mean when I say he needs to be held on to vs traded. There isn't a #3 batter like him for this team forthcoming this season or next. You want to spend $30mil the next two years so we have a good #3 hitter on a 90+ loss team? There are arguments to not trade Braun...but that one seems like a bit of a stretch. Nope, I said it. Our #3 if Braun is traded is Gennett or Santana. Before you say Lucroy/Carter just know those two are far more likely to be gone before Braun is. Edit: As Markedman put it he's the reason folks watch/ or Attend Games. When Lucroy is already traded and Braun becomes traded I'd imaging attendance goes from 25k to 16k. 2/30million for him is well worth it because he just flat out hits. Without him and sans Lucroy. Once the pitchers gave up 2runs I'd believe the game is over. His AB with 2runners on and I'm thinking this game could be tied.
  11. This is what I mean when I say he needs to be held on to vs traded. There isn't a #3 batter like him for this team forthcoming this season or next.
  12. Trade happy. Someone above posted a good reason why to keep Braun. Davies is off to poor start. Lopez even worse in AAA. Our prospects aren't building confidence that they'll be leading the way of this rebuild. CF is a mess and we're waiting for somebody or Phillips to take their spot as becoming a fixture of the rebuild. You add Santana that's 2/3rds leaving 1 more OF position to fill. I don't believe it's a this season away to find. 2 seasons even. Maybe as a rookie 2018 Braun's true replacement will be found. But to trade him now leaves another black hole that we are likely filling in with .600s at best OPS. Gennett or Santana would be our #3 hitter hows that for the future 2years? It's highly likely that in 2018-2020 Braun is still the best hitter on the team overall. It's not like we have a Braun type talent in our minors knocking on the ML door. Hopefuls sure, but not sure things. As to the question trade value. I've never believed it was really gone. It's more biding time seeing how he performs while more of his contract expires. He's had 3 straight seasons of questioning his ability. Should he have another 2015 like season and he's heading that way and then some, owners will come asking what they must give up for Braun.
  13. Wow. Thanks Topper. I kinda assumed it'd be up there. At least you give a ballpark number.
  14. Mlbtr made a suggestion of the Rays to trade for Lucroy. No Snell, but Honeycutt +. Guy has a plus offering Screwball plus control. Sounds like a winning headliner. Just don't believe the Rays will make such a trade.
  15. So a Peralta start with 0walks. And the Brewers had 0 walks. 19ks between the 2 teams. Begs the question. What's the most amount of Ks combined by both teams while neither records a BB?
  16. So far, Segura, Gomez, Davis, and Parra have a combined 6BBs for the season. Scooter has 10 alone already. Sardinas has a Negative! launch angle currently.
  17. You know this could happen with 5 team divisions too, right? Of course but the odds are likely quite a bit less than the 4 4team divisions. Look at the NFL and 7-9teams winning divisions. Did that happen when it was 3?
  18. I'd call it depth. I feel confident he'll consistently produce Peralta statlines without the headaches of talent failure. There are 5 in a rotation. https://battlingbucs.wordpress.com/2012/10/17/the-average-starting-pitcher/ Pretty much states "#1 Starter: 2.79-3.46 (Average of 3.09) #2 Starter: 3.56-3.91 (Average of 3.74) #3 Starter: 4.00-4.27 (Average of 4.11) #4 Starter: 4.31-4.75 (Average 4.51) #5 Starter: 4.90-6.37 (Average of 5.34)" Davies will beat out #5 and likely even the average of #4. He's a piece that solves part of the 25man puzzle. This is by far better than throwing darts out there like the 2013 season of Hand/Figaro/Gorzellany/Burgos.
  19. It's good the way it is. 3divisions 5teams in each. To move to 4divisions would be bad when you get the .488 win pct team winning a bad division and making the playoffs while a .575 win pct team is beaten out for wildcard. I'd rather see a team be moved vs. expanding. Tampa has had the worst season attendance the last 4 seasons. 29th the year before that, 29th currently. This is with 4 seasons of 90+wins and lowest win total in a season of 77. You're not going to see attendance increase if they can't draw one on 90win teams. What happens when they go through a stretch of 70s win seasons? Time to move on.
  20. Cool story Danzig. Looking at Fangraphs and disecting. Very little has changed. Except a tick higher on flyballs vs groundballs. his HR/FB rate is 15%+ which is 3times higher than previous 2 seasons and more than double his career avg. 2 BBs and still paltry 2.8% bb/rate. This has a lot of signs as being a streak vs the standard. More luck involved that I'll reserve til 100games have been played to call non-luck.
  21. He had a BB. That's a positive. Edit: the bb lead to the Brewers only run. Aaron Nola is a future Ace. Being shut down by him isn't a surprise. Ace vs. Brewers #4 this is the expected outcome 66% of the time.
  22. I am certain Santana played some CF last season. You can move him in to CF and bat those Kirk N, Flores, and Presley in a corner OF. How long til Rymer begins rehab?
  23. With my travails and people I come across, for 4years now I've owned a golf shirt with the Ball in glove MB logo, I get compliments or a hey! Brewers fan from complete randoms. The outside world gives praise on loving that logo. There is such a sticking power on that logo, where as the standard logo I don't get any recognition.
  24. When non-sb guys like Jaso steal on Lucroy; it's a track meet. When a 30-50sb runner steals his 4th already on the season, He's a runner even Maldonado will struggle to throw out.
  25. Jaso gets on base more over his career. Could be the reason Great he gets on base more .362OB just to clog the basepath in front of McCutchen. When he does get on base over 77% of the time he's clogging 1b on potential XBH for McCutchen. Polanco had a .320OB last season his 1st full year. So for .04OB you bat him 5/6 vs leadoff? I'd think the runs differential for Jaso at leadoff over Polanco at 5/6 would amount to a negative due to the lesser ABs Polanco sees, SBs he'd be able to get over Jaso, but scoring from 1b or 2b on hits Jaso wouldn't.
