  1. Such teasing saying such fantastic names like Whitley, or in other Texas proposals, Tate/Ortiz. Whitley I said, reminds me of Stanton....Get me to riled up over here on that kind of return potential. Yowza
  2. You know, as easy as it was to claim these 3 players on waivers, it'll be just as easy to release? I'm guessing the 40man really stands at about 34 with 6 warm bodies to fill it to 40 for now. Someone says, why not play Reed? Well, maybe from Opening day Reed will be starting. These moves don't cement this players in to Starting roles/Backups come Opening Day. Reading too much in to the 40man on the reclamation projects. As I recall, a couple seasons ago, it was Toronto that pretty much claimed every waiver player and just revolving door of those guys. Bring them in to camp, take a look and see if there's a reason to keep them. If this is a 100loss team finding the backup that's 0WAR vs the one that's -1.5WAR. That to me is what is going on. The Rule 5picks will the 2 ML picks even make the Opening day roster or just be returned? That's 5 players on the 40man that have a tough road to making Opening Day. Pinto may be insurance if Lucroy is traded. He doesn't get traded, waived. I'm pumped about the rebuild. We're already getting teams #15 prospects and stashing them as our #30. There's going to be a lot of talent brought up before the Superstud talents arrive. But let's just not hand them the job and make them earn it.
  3. When the Brewers signed Lara they barely had a 3+million allotment to do so. 10mil would be really 5mil +5mil taxes. Latos was a blossoming#2 talent, but some injuries, attitude and maybe team clubhouses he's played for have disturbed him to reach that level. His attitude makes me think he'll hold out for most money. I don't believe he'll sign a Pirates Liriano type deal. I don't like the guy. Cancer as been mentioned, in the clubhouse, poor attitude on the mound, not what I'd want the next Brewers group to grow around. 1yr deal special is all I'd do. And I'm guessing he's seeking 3-5.
  4. And that is why I made my foolish proposal. It's not how Tampa operates. And that proposal would be the only way I see them change their decision making.
  5. Wasn't Blake Snell named minor league Pitcher of the year by BA? If I'm right, there's just no chance Tampa trades that away. Maybe Snell for Lucroy+Davis+Smith. And 20million. Okay maybe just 2million, but this is Tampa who won't spend 100mil on the team.
  6. Zimmerman gone, Strasburg has how many years to FA? Fister is a FA. Seems far fetched the team would trade away their next Ace in the making with such turnover occurring in the staff.
  7. Are Alvarez' numbers adjusting for park factor? Davis hits 3-5 less HRs if he batted there. Alvarez probably cranks 4-6more here.
  8. If there's so much hate for Alvarez, then wouldn't you hate Davis as well? Aren't we looking at the same kind of player? HRs, lack of defense.
  9. Posted elsewhere but Yes. Davis cannot play 1b. It was tried in Spring Training in practice and immediately he was thrown back to LF. The two I haven't figured out is Braun or Santana at 1b. Braun had made the comment he'd play anywhere but 3b if asked I believe when he was being moved to RF for Davis. Something that I'm not in belief of is 55 or 60win team. That we have 100loss team in our hands. We haven't traded our SPs. Until Nelson or Peralta is removed really stripping this team after all the trades this team. The basic Replacement team should win 48games. I think there's more talent in the arms to get us to better than 100losses. Unlike the teams of Miami, Houston, Cubs in their rebuilds. And we're suddenly deep if we lose the 5th SP. I'd have a lot of belief in who the team brought up. Nelson, Peralta, Jungmann, Davies, Garza or Lopez. The bullpen looks settled for quite some time with all the RP arms. Remember we've lost Lohse. Garza cannot be as bad as he was and the team can move on from him quickly if he is. Peralta was as bad as you'd imagine him. And while I'd say Jungmann takes a step back those 3 SP slots being better in 2016 will make it hard for me not to see this as a 68win team again. None of the bats on this roster performed above expectations last season. They performed poorly enough to win 68 games. I don't believe the bats will fail to produce one above expectations again. Do I see them winning 81games? No of course not. Not with this division and the NL's top teams Rotations. We've added depth and that extends to the ML team(aside from 1b) The worst man on the 25man is better than what the 25th man has been in the past.
  10. If Braun was worth 3.8WAR last season and money value that would be 24.7mil-26.6mil. And prices are rising. There's no reason not to ask for a good return in any trade involving Braun. He finished at .854OPS after a first month .660OPS start. I believe Braun is better than .854 an may be closer to a .900OPS bat. He improved on his defensive numbers from the year before. I still see a 5-6WAR ability in that case. far exceeding his 16mil pricetag.
  11. The suggestion of adding Davis or Peralta to get what you want for Lucroy. This is what I feel Stearns has been doing a good job of. I don't want to add a Davis or Peralta to Lucroy to get what you're asking for Lucroy. Now, adding one of the newly acquireds, Broxton, Villar or any of the RP types, These Lesser hyped types that you can sell off. I feel this is where it'll lead to. Maybe a late Spring Training trade with Lucroy and Walsh let's say, after having a solid looking Spring. Then you've gained with these extra bodies w/o it costing you anything. Take Odor for Walsh/Lucroy. They try to get Profar going meanwhile we get the better 2b plus whoever else the team asks from Texas. But to trade Davis or Peralta. I'd have to have Tate or Ortiz in the deal. If not both. As like Gallardo that surprised me, I'd have 0 doubt Lucroy gets a QO from Texas. Theyll get a draft pick when he signs elsewhere. So they can afford to part with that talent for talent today if they really believe they'll be WS contenders with this move.
  12. Braun fits the DH, reserve outfield slot perfectly. Cron fits the 1B slot for the Brewers perfectly. To play Albert Pujols at 1b more often than CJ Cron at 1b and instead just use Cron as DH? That tells me Cron isn't the best of 1b defenders. BRef gives him Negative runs a total of 10 in just 711 innings. Or half a season w/o extras. That'd be 20runs costing the team defensively extended to a full season. That would be 1run better than Alvarez at 1b a full season. Braun is far better than that type of return.
  13. I don't see Heaney as a TOR arm. That's why the Marlins traded him. I'd rather find a higher ceiling arm than Heaney. So we acquire Cron a DH? And do what with our new DH we acquired? Use him as a pinch-hitter?
  14. Seems he acquired his CF?
  15. Wow am I late to this party. There goes your Rogers dilemma. Brewers may actually have a CF now for the season in Broxton. If he's a 19/28 or 11/39 type of player HRs/SBs seems very Brett Phillips like with maybe a 10%-15% lower triple slash line. I'll take that. In the least you put a true SB threat on the roster. Seems to me Stearns is acquiring a bunch of AAAA guys with upside. Lots of bodies. Get a few to live up to their upside and these are all trade pieces or long term solutions to have on your 25man. It's depth, and we are gaining a lot in this depth department. We'll be able to interchange talent for talent we need without skipping a beat on who we trade away.
  16. Yes a reality check that the BR similar batters are pointless and horribly inaccurate. You really think those are similar batters? Really? I think the similar batters comes in the form of total stats by that age. One name left out? Yoenis Cespedes. There you go for your upside talk. It's not a good comparison when those on that list are at 4-5 seasons and Davis has just 3. Just like Cespedes is on the same list I'm looking at but only 2 seasons of stats. I do like some BRef comparisons but in this instance it's not a good compare.
  17. Again, with the Walsh add. Maybe you get somebody who speaks his approach and it rubs off. To me Middlebrooks is the only prospect of all the 3b options to have the batting profile potential you'd want from your 3b. Think he's the only one that can crank 20HRs plus. Everyone else I'd have a hard time seeing 15HRs from maybe tough to see 10HRs from. I'm envisioning an entire infield that accumulates less than 60HR on the entire season from starters. Middlebrooks maybe gets them to 75-80 if he pans out.
  18. They drew over 2.5mil last season after essentially being out by the month of May. Now, they won't have a team unlike the prior seasons that you could argue can get to 81wins and that will cause fewer sales. I'd guess 2.2million somewhere in there would be the dropping point. The thing is, the team has far more depth in pitching that could spark some interest. The arrivals of Arcia, Phillips, Lopez depending when they are inserted on to the every day roster could also fill more seats. But then again, you may sickeningly watch Lucroy get traded and not have Arcia/Phillips service clock get started in 2016. Rather than maybe fill some seats when/if Phillips/Arcia get off to a fast start in their career. Arcia/Phillips join the team in 2016: 2,261,160 Arcia/Phillips don't join the team: 2,106,061
  19. Yikes. This is very underwhelming. Jose Peraza must be a better Arcia in order to get excited on this return just a little bit. Scott Schlebler looks like a Khris Davis type of numbers in the OF, if he performs. He's a big guy I'd question his defense. Brandon Dixon is an older prospect for his numbers. a Repeat of A+ where his age was older than avg netted a .932OPS. The move to AA where he's 1year younger than avg. dropped his OPS to .647 in near twice as many games played. The overall combo line of 19HRs 26SBs for a 2nd baseman would hide some of a .700ish OPS displeasure. Seems more like Peraza plus 2 AAAA players with Replacement level ML regular ceilings. The Dodgers essentially got a better trio of a package in my opinion than the Reds with just trading Peraza, Dixon, and Schlebler. And the White Sox get their Josh Donaldson for a bat. In front of Abreu? Good top of the order. I just question why a team like the Dodgers acquires Peraza and then trades him the very next offseason after he got a brief stint in the Major League club. It's like clubhouse virus? Or talent not what you believed? We'll find out in the future. I'm glad Brewers don't have to face Frazier because his best OPS within the division was vs the Brewers. Not looking like they'll be having to face that level of bat in any of the returned players.
  20. To get 5years of Giles plus they got a 17yr old SS to me is a great deal. He's the real deal. He's going to be worth as much or more in a package if you try trading him away in next 3 years maybe even 4. As for Brewers BP. Jeffress and Kneble to me will fill out backend. I think the team as enough arms to plug up the RP situation. And a rule 5 pickup like Jones? was it(probably wrong w/o looking) is another way to fill up cheaply the Bullpen. We are starting off far better in the BP than the Astros did in past 2 seasons. Appel I'm rooting against. Guy was top 10 pick declined his Pitts. offer went back to school came out and got his #1 money and has mostly been a joke in results at his professional level. Pirates with Meadows must be a lot happier to have seen Appel not sign.
  21. This has got to feel like an absolute steal to the Giants. Since they were willing to pay Lincecum 17mil a year for 2years. I don't know why Cueto failed in the AL but when he's on he's up there as THE Best. Bumgarner needs to step up his game if he's going to keep up with Cueto. Doesn't change the fact, Giants offense appears to blow on paper. Which I think will hold them back. The Dodgers underachieved each of last 2 seasons to make the Giants feel like they were in it. And I'll take the Mets Rotation over the Giants. 2Aces now for Giants. 3-4 for Mets.
  22. I'd guess that this is the fallback option not on Gordon but more on Carlos Gonzalez. I'd say theres your comparison in Braun. Only Braun will be better since you aren't dealing with the Coors Field affect to many of CarGo's good batting numbers. Yes Braun is older and longer contract term. But Cargo isn't a sure thing away Coors. He'll probably produce 10-15% less in his season stats. Braun simply is safer bet to give you what you want in production. Colorado going to kick the tires on Cargo trade offer, see how well that same offer works to get Braun. After the Lind trade, maybe you can keep one of your AA/AAA guys you were discussing to Col, and offer up the RK/A level player instead. Would I trade Braun? I think he's only going to increase his value in a trade as these prices for FAs go higher. A 2nd season producing like 2015 will also curtail his bat decline from PED's. The contract moving forward with this rebuild/retool will never be a detriment we're holding. We're building from within so the team will be cheap to run. Even if Braun is 20mil of a 60mil payroll. There's 40-60million still left out on the table in the next few seasons if DS decides to pick up a pricey contract.
  23. Nah, Chacin to me is Pena today in expectations. Too wild, swingman to RP type. I like what the Brewers have to use at their disposal more.
  24. For the love on Lowe, the video doesn't impress me. Definitely would work on it some. Loose and flippy I see. Which I'd attribute sapping his true power. Have to give him kudos though because I think every at bat in the video was vs a Lefty, and that may have to do more with his swing. Extension is pretty much what I think isn't happening. Now that is probably a fairly easy fix and the Lefty bat with a 90+MPH arm from 3b may be the big thing to drool about. Here's some Demi O. I see the power stroke in the swing here. With Lowe, I see more of slap hitting stroke.
  25. This is the man who Boras has on speed dial to sign his FA SPs not getting interest elsewhere. As Monty will be convinced to say, Attendence matters to him and getting the casual fan excited about some FA seems to matter towards that. Alvarez or Ike Davis may be the type you attempt to sell 30HR middle of the order bat that fills Lind's departure to fans. It's December, Let's just wait til Spring Training and see if Mark A. can lay off the owner signings and let his GM do his job.
