  1. We'd be lucky to have Ortiz or Tate offered for Lucroy. Those two have the highest ceilings of any on those lists. I remember Jackson having some star rising as a prospect but the shine is fading. There's more needed I'm just not enjoying the other options. I'd rather make the trade mid-season and see how Jackson/Cordell do. And then maybe pick from one of them. I'd look to find a way to add both Ortiz and Tate to the team's minors. That would include offering one of Santana, K-Davis, Nelson, Peralta, Jungmann, Davies, Smith, or Jeffress. Tate honestly if probably more off limits than Gallo or Mazara.
  2. That's why I made mention of Gennett/Segura or Villar with an added prospect in return. The thing with both and why I like trying to trade with Arz. is that Arizona has Goldy for a very long time blocking O'Brien at 1b. And They signed Yasmany Tomas to play 3b for a long time, blocking Lamb. Okay they want to keep Lamb at 3b as Tomas doesn't look like a fit as a 3b. Well that mean OF, completely blocking O'Brien. O'Brien though does not gleam #1 player a team would trade for. He's a piece, as his history of where he'll be defensively w/o costing the team more on the field than his bat will provide is undetermined. You don't get Peralta for O'Brien. Now I'm asking for one of the SP prospects plus. The SP prospect you give me would be a higher ceiling than Peralta in Blair/Shipley/even Bradley. I don't know if I'd rather be stuck with Tomas in my OF when I didn't trade away Lamb and lost Your TOR potential SP prospects. Over Lamb/O'Brien, Tomas floats for the season where you figure out is 3b or OF where you play him? and keep your SP prospects. I like the bats, but they aren't special. This isn't Brett Phillips/Domingo Santana special. They'd be more like Zach Davies special. Who is solid but not All-Star potential solid. Like the DBacks I'm sure still would feel Tomas' ceiling is. And their SP prospects being.
  3. The Dbacks are certainly an attractive team to trade with...Montgomery would know a lot in that system. So the B/C players after A would likely be better than usual B/C players. The Dbacks had had a total of 4 30+GS starters in the past 3 seasons total 2 by Wade Miley who was traded away prior to 2015. Pitching has certainly been a crutch on the team holding them back. Peralta would be a very legit SP to acquire on the bounceback by a GM who could use a workhorse for a #3-5 spot in the rotation that team hasn't had. And since it's after a poorer season by Peralta you expect it to not cost a ton in prospects. I'd still look for as good a return as Gallardo's. Who surprisingly was offered a QO, that he declined! Texas will gain a 27-34th type draft pick back so the trade was Gallardo+QOpick for Knebel, Sardinas, and Diplan. You get more team control for Peralta. And most certainly after 2014 Peralta was the better option for the duo going forward. They have Lamb as been mentioned, and that most certainly would solve 3b on the Brewers for awhile. What about Peter O'Brien? He has Catching history, 1b history. Not saying he should lead the team post Lucroy at C, but could he be a backup to give Maldonado/Unknown time off or in a pinch with injury? And of course he's at 1b otherwise solving post Lind. May just solve the CIF in one trade. O'Brien, Villar, Arcia, Lamb infield? I could see sending Gennett or Segura to the Dbacks who may prefer them to send the others back to AAA vs having the job w/o competition. Or, what if you sent Villar? but got back a SP prospect as well? Making a trade with the Dbacks certainly presents far numerous ideas and lots to like. The idea that Montgomery would have knowledge of that system really makes me believe the Brewers would come out ahead in the trade.
  4. Man, the turn of events in the opinion of the guy. I think he was the most sought after 3b in here in 2014. I didn't like him as an option back then. But in this instance, I'd consider letting him attempt to win a 3b job. He's not going to be the Starting 3b for the Brewers for the next 5 years as is nobody else on the current roster. At least of 3b he'd be one of the options where he's playing his usual position and not a 2b/SS/Utility playing 3b. This is a Non Playoff team in 2016. Give him the chance to make the Opening day roster. He's 27. He hasn't been given a full-time shot or remained healthy enough to consider a length of playing a given full time shot. Of all the guys the team has assembled thus far to play 3b potentially, Middlebrooks has the most Power in his bat. When the team is staring at the possibility of Segura as your best 3b option, maybe Villar. I'd rather see Middlebrooks get a chance and keep the Middle infielders where they belong.

  7. And that right there is your answer. Garza himself won't pitch anywhere but as a SP. He won't be in the bullpen. Put money on that. Thread can be closed. Ain't happening, no way no how.
  8. Count me in the, glad he's no longer to be considered a Brewer with a home-town discount. The team needs to acquire this kind of pitching talent via the draft or trades like Gomez/Fiers got. The team should have learned by now that signing a FA SP is going to end badly. Grow from within and try to get an team friendly extension when you get your gem. Talking just 7th&8th year beyond the standard 6yr team control.
  9. I missed this rankings post. I'll add my answers to the questions posed earlier in the thread How about some thoughts on superlatives: Who is the most likely to be first graduate off the list? We've pretty much answered this already. It'll be Zach Davies. Jorge Lopez next. Who will be the biggest climber? Cody Ponce. I think he'll climb to AAA during 2016 and be the #1 prospect in this ranking next season...as I'm in belief Arcia will have graduated. Who will have the biggest drop? Tyrone Taylor some more. His time may be short for being in the organization. There's just far better athletes and bats and he's not going to make it to the Major League club before they all surpass him. Most likely to make a comeback? A comeback....Like not on this list? Nicolas Pierre. Don't know why he played so little this year and maybe with some more exposure he'll show why the team spent 800k for him. Otherwise, WCWang if to be on the list since he's near the bottom but at the age where you'd expect some team advancement. Big years coming for Harrison and Gatewood. What was such a brilliant start to Harrison's pro career, and forgettable for Gatewood's, I'm wondering which will step forward. Especially since the team has added Lara, Clark, and Orimoloye that are going to be at or above them in the levels these two play. That will be the most fun to see these 5 start maturing and climb the Org. ladder.
  10. It's a mistake that Ponce is rated #29 on MLB's rankings. He wont be there midseason rankings in 2016. Probably top 15. I don't even get how guys like Goforth, WREN?!!, Roache, Denson can even be ranked ahead of them. Wren doesn't belong in a top 50 rankings. Denson either. Again, for me personally Ponce is the #2 best SP prospect Milw has after Medeiros. He'll find his way up to Medeiros' ranking before long. Devin Williams hasn't proven anything to me who was a 2nd rd pick like Ponce and is 7th? But Ponce 29th? Think about that. Ponce was more highly regarded predraft than Williams. I don't know about Hader, he reads well and maybe better than both Medeiros/Ponce. Any Pitcher ranking should revolve those 3 first. Williams has a bit of a climb to go and Davies I believe has less ceiling.
  11. I know you said without question, but huh? Is it just because he throws hard in short stints or had shoulder soreness last spring? I haven't seen any indication or scouting report that questions his projection as a starter. I think he should be out of the pen as he'll be more effective and have a longer career. Can spot start if needed as would be capable. But out of the pen he was 15ip, 11h, 0er, 15K, 1bb in A ball. He also pitched very well starting in A having a 2.30era outside of his one terrible start. He has better command out of the pen (9bb in 31ip in A as SP) as well. This is obviously a small sample size given it's his first season but his command has been avg or so as a starter even in college even though I'd assume he'd improve upon that as he grows as a professional. Throws low 90s consistently as starter but out of the pen can stay at 95-97 and with four pitchers makes him even more dangerous. If his small injuries arise as he develops those potentially could be eased with a move to the pen as well. Lot of guys are projected as long-term mid-rotation starters but by the time they're ready for MLB should be moved to the pen (ie Hellweg). I just feel he's better suited there along with Houser and some others. There needs to be more Wade Davis types - decent SPs but have the stuff to be extremely effective out of the pen thus having better/longer careers That line right there tells you why he should be a Starter over a RP. Starters need more than 2 pitches. KRod? FB+Changeup=Damn good closer. Ponce has some serious pitch potential, I am concerned about his control with the high effort delivery that I shied away from promoting his selection predraft. He tempers down a little bit but maintains his velocity Ponce may be the best SP prospect over Medeiros. No way do you put him in the bullpen any time soon.
  12. Earlier it was pointed out about the Cardinals and ability to avoid that 10year signing but not with Molina. I'd say that Molina's strength is the Arm/glove/defense something super elite a dropoff as he aged is likely better than 90% of the Catchers in MLB still. As much as I hate the guy, for a 10year signing, he's probably the most likely of any 10year signing to return the value you signed him for. The Lind trade with Minn. Stephen Gonzalves was the pitcher I liked leading up to the Lohse signing. I think he fell down from a 15-25th pick projection due to slight injury/maybe signability? Sigh. He alone, honestly should be enough to get Lind for 1year. He's a 1st round talent that's more proven than the QO after 1st round talent the Brewers would get after he wasn't re-signed. I agree with the above opinion, why does Minn. trade for Lind to play a position already filled? Especially at the cost of Gonsalves who's very underrated most likely due to his 4th rd selection....not the 1st/2nd overhyped and rated selections you see on top 100 lists. Anyway, nothing really new, obviously we're all itching for the next move after the 3 trades in 3 days, including KRod.
  13. The signings would still count for 2015 period, one I imagine the Dodgers can spend willingly. It's 2016/2017 signing periods they'll be limited to 300k. Mlb FO really isn't going to complain on the overages since it goes to them...which they say is spent towards international networking and creating appeal....but really, at what dollar amount do you need to accomplish that? Here's 20million which will be 1/5 and better than Milwaukee's team payroll forthcoming.
  14. Jericho on Lind extension.... I guess you want Mark Reynolds/Overbay, Juan Francisco/A.Gonzalez/Y. Betancourt/Maldonado types to cover 1b until you believe the team will compete again with whomever plays 1b somewhere in between Lind/Hart value and the others above. I'll take the known commodity and extend him until theres the future. Lind's removal means having no known 1b of his ability. Learn from the mistakes. As this is a team in rebuild, it can always trade Lind away when some true heir apparent appears. TPlush on Lucroy trade.... A nice package and being blown away I think is close probably in both what you and I would take in Lucroy. I may have an added grade to the final prospect we get over yours but the first piece is likely the same. Lucroy's contract is so cheap, I don't see his trade value declining regardless of performance. Health would be the concern only. Brew4u on Lind comment This concern on age. He's Braun's age who keeps being penciled in as 1b to become. So we'll take Braun at the same age through 2020 but Lind we must rid of by 2016 season close.? Find me the next 1b that's going to produce at a .797OPS as Lind has for his career and I'll be comfortable with departing with him. We're so quick to trade away Lind/Lucroy in opinion and my issue is two major positions filled with +positive players removed only opens a big hole to fill once again at both positions. 1b to me is a big position that needs to be filled with a big bat. That's why I'd rather extend Lind. His bat at this moment isn't filled. Lucroy I'd give up easier but again on a blown away trade offer. See, I actually believe he's very good. I'm not concerned about his future performance, he'll be fine and a good producer. The fear is for him to be terrible. Probably because of recent history of the Marcum's, Suppan's, Lohse et al. I'm not voicing to extend him. But believe we'll find a trade partner with a killer offer between now and the 2017 Trade deadline. Just know we don't have a catcher who'll perform 1WAR on the team as Lucroy did on this terrible season of his. There isn't one in the pipelines.
  15. Why focus on Profar. Let's let them overvalue him and get Odor who I think will be 50% the better 2b. Odor/Arcia? Yes please! Why must Lind be traded? Pre-QO quality? I just look around baseball and see a dearth of 1b. Barring Santana becoming the 1b of the future, Lind would be better served extended if the team is rebuilding by 2017. Again, find me your 1b after this season? 2017-2020? Where is he? I don't even look at trades for that answer. The best are Braun or Santana. No other team will be trading a better option. Lucroy's trade this off-season has to be criminal in return. If it's not, it's not enough. Simple as that. Dodgers want Lucroy?...One of Seager or Urias. That type of criminal. There isn't any reason to trade him for anything less than $1.50 on the dollar.
  16. Jose Fernandez? No. It'd cost Arcia/Phillips, and 3 more top 20 prospects in the Brewers system. Yasiel Puig. This is the Braun trade-away I'd imagine happening. If you're trying to unload him. After all his off the field issues, I'd pass on Puig. I think Braun is worth more and would rather get a different value of Star potential player when he is traded.
  17. I think the realization was setting in that Sardinas was never going to be anything more than a toothpick and only of 2b/SS position. The guy has awful OB skills and the players are just better in Villar/Arcia at the only positions Sardinas was going to play. Expendable. I'm not upset because: Ramon Flores. LHB. Has OB skills, and 1b experience. He doesn't have power they say...and this Sardinas guy? We traded a 2b/SS for a OF utility, 1b ability, and OB skills. Sardinas' top 100 prospect ranking is obviously banked on what a body he could have achieved and that in turn projects far higher than the body he possesses today. He may get it one day or never though. But he's obviously a long, long road away after all this time to get there.
  18. It could be like contracts that vest where some stats are allowed (such as starts or games finished) while others aren't (like ERA or BA). But performance is going to be irrelevant in this situation. Because players to be named have to be exchanged within six months of a trade, there won't be any time for K-Rod to "perform." Yeah that's what I was thinking. 6months. Wonder why the PTBNL. A guy who's injured/coming off injury any day now and maybe playing some winter ball to chose from? With the new acquisition of Villar, the return thus far isn't impressing. Who do the Tigers have that maybe qualifies as injured goods to be determined? Is that Rondon RP a possibility? Someone like that?
  19. Man is pulling the trigger and making some moves. You have to remove a SS in trade now. So more moves to come. I just hope we don't lose out top prospects in the process. Arcia is the real deal. Profar comparison is based on what? The previous top billing. Expecting a Stud Arcia future and saying look at Profar's results....Only rings true if Arcia misses what? 95% of games to play in 3 years? Villar I'm sure was a former top 100 prospect. He'll be alright.
  20. I'm saying the list is performance based. It's not on draft pick but on 2 prospects.
  21. Not very appealing to me this return. A ptbnl doesn't he have to be decided upon within 6months? If I'm right that is April 18th. Not exactly a KRod having time to produce a trade value. Like he reaches 30saves Brewers get Player !. He doesn't reach 30saves Brewers get Player b.
  22. Monty, time to withhold your attendance skepticism. 2013&2015 both pulled in over 2.5mil fans although the playoff potential was nil by mid-May. Playoff potential nets the team 2.8mil fans. I'll bet you 5,000 right now attendance is closer to 2.5mil than 2mil next season. If you don't take that bet, you can't post anymore about Attendance&gate receipts leading the way to what decisions are being made. A 68win team still brought in 2.5mil+ after the start and fails of 2014. 250k+ reduction in attendance is over 4,000 people per game needing to decide not attending games next season. What are all those fans going to do with themselves next summer w/o tailgating?
  23. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/zoneTrack.php?month=10&day=7&year=2015&game=gid_2015_10_07_chnmlb_pitmlb_1%2F&prevGame=gid_2014_05_11_nyamlb_milmlb_1%2F&prevDate=1007 Really wasn't that bad. Pittsburgh GOT the worst call of the night in their favor. Does that graph relate to TBS' graph on the tv screen. I seen more pitches where a strike that was outside was dotted inside TBS' graph and then a Ball on a pitch that looked right on the corner being dotted way outside. That's the graphic I'm complaining about. I don't know that this Brooksbaseball and graphic of pitches and location and strike/ball calls is using the same data TBS is putting on their TV Screen
  24. I like the idea of Jake Lamb more than Asche. Two teams with newer GMs getting together and making a deal. I'd see a nice fit for Davis on a trade there. Probably look to add another prospect on the DBacks end for Davis in return. Tomas moves to 3b fulltime and an Incierte/Pollock/Davis OF for a few years looks promising. I'm not sure who'd I ask for with Davis. Price seems either steep or not worthy. Could you take a Brandon Drury from them if you offered Gennett or Sardinas even better? I'd guess if the DBacks traded Lamb they'd want to keep Drury as backup at 3b. Lamb though batting Lefty would be a great 3b target to fill and hold down the 3b position until the talents we hope of Lara/Gatewood develop.
  25. But where? What holes? OF is set. 1b is Lind. 2b/SS I'd look at but what's there? 3b as well, what's there? Pitching? I think the team is pretty close to set. They have far too many young guys for #3-5 type Starter/RP depth to try and find what their niche will be. You look at SS and Arcia if upcoming. Leaves Segura/Sardinas/Gennett at 2b? The team made it's SP signing in Garza and had he been successful this year he'd probably been gone at this year's deadline. Since he's still here, that's kinda like the team's FA SP signing to try to trade away at 2016's deadline. You're in the division that just had the 3 best records in all of Baseball. What good is it to spend 10s of millions for next season/2017 in FAs? Of course, the team could make a few trades and make it required to attain FAs to fill out 25man. I think history shows the team will acquire some Veteran Pitcher. After that, you're talking ridding of Gennet/Segura/Perez for IF acquisition. If your starting OF is Braun, Santana, Davis aside from Parra what 4th OF option do you sign vs just filling with likes of Peterson/Reed and Phillips at some point?
