  1. Cool post, colby...while I had a sense that we had some nice debuts, I didn't see the big picture. It's particularly intriguing to see the success of Inman, and to a lesser extend Garrison, given the reflexive aversion to HS pitchers that you see from time to time. Obviously time will tell, and all the usual caveats about pitchers apply, but the early returns suggest that we may have picked up pretty good value for those picks. I'm also astonished at the success of Hammond, who had very mediocre stats as a reliever in a great college pitchers' park, but has been superb in pro ball. I reckon that is the same scout who saw something in Housman at Fullerton at few years back... Finally, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Brantley might have some offensive potential...I guess I've gotten jaded by all the past CF picks in the early middle rounds, none of whom have ever hit despite rave reviews for their athleticism. Again, caveats apply.
  2. What's the over-under on this game? Between the Reds offense and the Reds' pitching, it must be at least 12...
  3. I think it's important to be careful with what you mean here...I wouldn't say that OBP is 1.6 times more important than SLG...rather I'd say: In the current environment, an increase in OBP of one point has the same effect on a team's runs scored as an increase in SLG of 1.6 points. (Maybe 1.6 should be 1.7 or 2.0 or whatever...that is not the point.)
  4. Let it be said that I wondered what the heck we were doing by drafting Hammond, who despite my doubts has nothing but good results to show at three stops so far. I reserve the right to criticize Jack Z every now and again, but apparently they know a thing or two about what they're doing... Also let it be said that a 'next wave' appears to have formed in WV, setting off tsunami warnings in the mountains. Though I also hope that they stop talking about waves and let guys move at individual paces rather than keeping cohorts together.
  5. Doggone it Kat, I posted mine first, no matter what your computer or that blasted EZboard server says!
  6. I would love to see Dennis get the call to Milwaukee Sept. 1. They've got to make a decision on him soon...next year is his last option year I believe.
  7. I doubt that one's even in the dictionary. Or do they describe hamburger as 'grinded beef' in Georgia?
  8. After getting dissed in the July Player of the Month voting, Jenks has an OPS in August of 1.918...
  9. Well, you can't say it hasn't been an interesting game...
  10. Whichever bullpen coughs up the last run loses?
  11. Team LOB is 13...the other number is a bit misleading.
  12. Now santana. Playing for a tie? Sigh...maybe we'll stay within three.
  13. You could put Helms in at third and move the pitcher into Durrington's spot.
  14. where is there a gap between 1 and 2 ? Just humoring myself Hmmm...perhaps you are confused about the role of a comma vs. that of a period. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The Mets are dusting off Graves now...Durrington vs. Graves is one of those epic matchups that belongs in an independent league somewhere.
  15. The new Mets pitcher has not pitched in 2 weeks. Well, as we've seen, Yost and Randolph seem to have similar issues with the pitching staff. I guess that's life around the .500 mark.
  16. Anyone else think that the way Jenkins is hitting the ball that he should be in the 3 hole? I was just thinking that there's a gap between the 1-2 hitters, who have been on base six times today, and the very hot Lee and Jenkins. Overbay has had his moments, but Jenks since the ASB has an OPS of 1200 or so... But those kinds of switches often don't make as much difference as you think.
  17. i've never sworn off booze or the brewers, but i'm getting darn close to doing one of those two things. I would think that giving up the Brewers would reduce the need for booze.
  18. Lehr sucks! cha cha cha cha cha Lehr sucks! cha cha cha cha cha See, it is possible to be negative and classy at the same time...
  19. Fascinating to keep Benson in to bunt. Will he come back to pitch the sixth?
  20. The Mets fans have wanted Randolph's head for a while I think...they've got bullpen issues at least as bad as ours, as we all saw in technicolor.
  21. Wow, that move worked...but what's the plan now? Lehr, delaRosa, and Eveland should be available, right?
  22. No need to attack me. Free speech whine whine whine Yep, it's a free country, and free speech is allowed. But that means that if you say certain things, free speech allows the people you ticked off to respond, and call you obnoxious. Acting gleeful when the Brewers give up runs just isn't going to play well here. I think you're acting obnoxious...and I have to think you are doing it deliberately. Playing the martyr, well, I hope that works out for you.
  23. Hate to pile on, but every so often I feel like everyone in the stadium plus a nationwide TV audience can tell a pitcher is done, and yet Ned and Maddux have to see a detonation just to be sure. DD has worked his way out of a lot of jams, but who thought he was going to get out of this one? Anyone?
  24. The Sounds have a decent lead in the standings, but they have to face the facts...come Sept. 1st Nelson Cruz, Corey Hart, Mike Rivera, Jeff Bennett, Jose Capellan, Dave Krynzel and perhaps a few others will be in Milwaukee. Possible I suppose, but doubtful. With the starting OF in Milwaukee, it's unlikely that there would be enough ABs to justify calling up the entire Nashville OF Sept. 1. The same thinking applies to Prince. I'd rather have those guys in the AAA playoffs than gathering dust and spitting sunflower seeds with Durrington at the end of the bench. I could see one of the three coming up right away, with Gwynn bumped to AAA. I'd guess they'd add reliever or two Sept. 1, probably...I'd guess one or two from Adams, Bennett, Capellan, Hendrickson, Sarfate, Davis would come up. Mike Rivera isn't on the 40 man roster and won't be added just to serve as a 3rd catcher.
