Which kind of stinks since it takes them out of the Harper sweepstakes (presumably). One less team to bid against the Cubs. Brewers have been saving up payroll.....just saying! Harper opening 2019 season in a Brewer uniform! Realistically, I was hoping Red Sox because having top 2 sluggers playing against each other in major rivalry would be great. Bring back some McGwire and Sosa memories. I have a feeling Nationals will pay Harper. Cubs will have decisions coming soon with some big contracts. They need arms which they will need to buy. They have no help on the way in minors. They don't have the system to trade for elite arms. I have no problem with the trade. It makes the Yankees more exciting again which I think is good for baseball. They are so iconic and such a huge part of our past time....I don't really like seeing them the way they have been past few years. I hate them being so dominant like they were growing up but I like to see them more relevant with some iconic players. Outside of Judge last year, who was the last Yankee player or team that was really that interesting or fun to follow? To be, they have just been ehh for years and extremely boring. So the whole rich get richer argument I disagree....this isn't George's Yankees anymore. Their team right now is based on hitting on Judge, Luis Severino, & Montgomery . Making trades to land Gregorius, Torres, Frazier, and McKinney. Then some FA's and trades. Think it is more smart managing than throwing money around.

I never look at ratings, I care more about the reports. From that aspect, I thought per usual, they did great job! No pitcher sits 91-95.... if they did, that would be worry some. It’s like Jungmann coming out where they’d say he is 91-97.... that is a range not sitting. He sits 89-92....max effort/top out 97. No pitcher is bouncing around one day sitting 94-95 then next 91-92, then maybe 92-94 next outing. If so, mechanics & control would be so inconsistent they would pretty much be useless. My guess is he is probably usually low 90s 90-92 starting but can reach back in short outings or bullpens and hit 93-95. I doubt you are getting many innings out of him pumping 93-94.

Its not like the Rockies didn't give CS a try. I think the Rockies spent nearly 20 years in CS (which is a higher altitude than Coors). On top of that its not like they went somewhere at sea level. Albuquerque (their new AAA affiliate after CS), at an elevation of 5,312 feet, is more comparable to Coors Field's roughly 5,280 feet. Yeah, more frustrated with us getting stuck there ha death to our pitching prospects. Only positive is it teaches them how to learn from failure & to grind through the mental aspect of it.

Keon Broxton to SF...who comes back?
Jenkins5 replied to ebmackenzie's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Overall, one needs to go between Braun, Santana, Brinson, Broxton, and Phillips. Can't have all 5 otherwise one is riding the bench wasting away. I think the way CC manages, you will have 4 starting OFs. Braun needs 1-2 games off a week, you can get Santana one a week, and in CF mix a bit. Brinson is the higher ceiling so he is the starter but Phillips gets 1 for Santana, 1-2, from Braun, and 1-2 a week from Brinson. Figure Phillips is starting 4 games a week and one of the main bats off the bench on other nights for them. I'm 100% fine with a 4 man rotation and all 4 will be getting fairly consistent ABs. With Broxton still here....that would really make situation merky if if there is no injuries. We don't need a 5th OF at all since Villar can give a day at CF if absolutely needed. Perez can fill all 3 (Villar better option though in CF if somehow we were down Phillips and Brinson) and Thames can also fill in a day here and there if needed. I am guessing Villar will get reps in ST in OF to increase versatility. -
Fangraphs is by far my favorite baseball site and one I trust the most. They have most in depth analysis of the players. Nothing to shocking to me. The Orlando Hudson comp for Erceg kind of made me scratch my head a bit. Seem like totally different players to me. Burns is my favorite arm with Peralta 2nd. Burnes to me is 2017 Chase Anderson as Ive said many times. I just think they match up amazing. May never be an elite guy but could be very effect #3. Peralta's analysis even confirmed my right hand Hader comp even more with the different type of delivery. His velocity is lower than I though though. Their numbers are identical, def when facing guys on their side of the plate. Plus both are just nasty out there. If him and Hader don't make the rotation...they could make a deadly 8 inning Lefty/righty duo like we had with Smith and Jeffress! Guys don't hit them...period! Walks are really their main hope. Love the faith in Ray to. So many are ready to feed him to the wolves. I get he is older and has struggled but talent and tools are their. Many guys with his athletic ability are slower than you'd prefer to develop. I always think of the Michel Bourns of the baseball world who don't figure things out until mid 20's. I have long thought of Grisham as a Michael Brantley and think that is still holding true. Hope he takes a leap in AA with the rest of the guys. As talked about with Diaz. Scouts aren't nearly as turned off by the stats put up in A+ Carolina because it is a terrible hitters league. I wrote a post back in like July breaking down all our prospects as compared to the entire league and our bad stats were the same for nearly every team and player. Think only like 5-7 players who qualified hit over .260 (when I researched last) and Gatewood was one of them. Overall, this is the year we finally see what we have in that awesome wave. It will make or break it prospect stocks in Bioloxi. I have tend to believe that league and park is a very good neutral environment to develop. Its not Florida or Carolina where by June the air is just dense, thick, and heavy causing ball not to travel as well. Plus the way some of the stadiums where built don't help with the way wind blows in of the coast. On the west, altitude and the dry air cause the ball to travel too well.....killing pitchers and inflating hitters. Midwest league is hard to gauge until mid May due to the cold. Once June comes I feel it is a very good league to gauge talent. Biloxi like Huntsville is really best conditions. Takes away the environmental and ballpark effect much more. If Ray, Grisham, Erceg, Diaz, Harrison, Gatewood, Stokes, and/or etc flop this year....They are no better than the hopes we had for Tyrone Taylor. Plus this is last time pitchers have to prove themselves before being fed to the wolves and having to learn to overcome often failure. Blows my mind that Rockies got ride of CS. You'd think you'd want to prepare those young arms and really gauge how they can handle the situation before they come to Coors. Pitching there is different and they just decided it is important for their young arms to learn to adjust to. Their lose is our.....well our lose to lol

Keon Broxton to SF...who comes back?
Jenkins5 replied to ebmackenzie's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Santana is about the same age as Brinson and Phillips. Younger than Broxton but has proven far more than any of them. A .300 35HR 100 RBI plus .900 OPS plus with 20 SBs may not be out of the question for him next year. I do actually prefer Braun and Phillips/Brinson playing RF over Santana. He has the arm out there but his defensive is just sluggish. Braun puts in more effort tracking down balls and I think is still fairly good athlete when healthy. I don't know, feel Santana just offers far more value in LF where you can hide the lazy defense more. Overall, I'm looking to trade Broxton. Maybe Phillips or Brinson if it is bringing back a really nice big arm for the top of our rotation. We better get a haul if we trade someone as talented, young, controllable, and dirt cheap. Clearly SF offers us nothing with a terrible minor league system. Panik would have to come back as starting point. After that.....just have to dig for possible gold.... -
I’m still mindblown how Archer is not a Top of rotation guy when he has finished in top 10 twice in past three seasons....Sits 96, Ks 10+ per 9 & keeps FIP in the 3.40 range. Is he kluber or Kershaw? No but only like 4-5 guys in baseball are. He is right there in that next tier though. I think Duffy is clear step down from Archer. Archer will get you 2+ WAR a season & a down season for him is a career year type for Duffy who has topped out at 3.2 WAR. Think he is better option however for the Brewers. We need LHP bad. He will great in middle of our rotation. Slot in at 2 with Hader at 5 would be stellar! Get two lefties out there for first time in forever. Cons Was rough August on for him. First, volocity was at career low. 1mph below average & 2mph lower than 2016. Match that with his elbow issue he dealt with & had surgery on last month. Brewers & bad elbows usually aren’t great for use with pitchers.... Last getting a DUI at 7:30pm at a Burger King isn’t outstanding lol but we are in Wisconsin soooo.... can’t hold it against him too much. He won’t cost Brinson which is nice but with Lo Cain prob walking....CF could be important priority for them moving forward. Assuming a high level arm as well. Think with the elbow, you try to get him a little cheaper. Don’t think it will work though

Like I have said, it all is about when we truly want to compete. Brinson in CF could be a big factor for us in 2020 for sure, hopefully click in 2019 but he is not going to help us make a run this season. There is a learning curve and he should last year he will have on. Brinson is preferred to retain over Yelich due to cost with both ceilings being very high, however, Yelich makes us better now. Brinson we have to wait to make us better. Same goes with SP Woodruff and the rest could be big parts for us but for 2018 it is safer to put your faith in Archer to help us make a run. It is nothing personal or against the players. Simply if Brewers want to make a run now in 2018, they need moves to do so. If they are okay with this year being about growth like last year and hoping things fall in place to make run in 2019, 2020...we keep them. End of day it is up to Stearns and Mark A about how fast do they want to compete now that we have the talent to make big moves to get key pieces.
-
In Brewer terms, Manaea is closer to Manny Parra but hopefully with a way better mindset. Parra self destructed but boy was he talented coming up. To bad that if he made a mistake he would hang head & blow up & not be able to recover for months at a time. Both bigger lefties, have big K stuff when on. Good volocity & breaking stuff. Coming out both were Top 10 talents. Parra if you remember was draft & follow & before Brewers signed him his stock was with the best. Both consider TOR guys coming up through system.

Marlins have been pretty public about selling off all high price tags on team. Yelich has ton of value so won’t be free but they will trade him most likely. 7,9.5,12, 14, 15 million is is more than the pre arby 500k they prefer moving in new direction. Stanton, Ozuna, Gordon, Yelich will almost certainly be gone by at least mid season at latest. I do think you under value Yelich. He’s is an All-Star caliber kid on the rise. As I said I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s 30/30 guy at some point before contract is up. At least 25/25. I love Brinson & what he COULD be but I love what Yelich IS and can continue to be. Brinson I see developing like Buxton. Very similar players & athletes. Don’t see Brinson coming out and light world on fire right away. He will take some time. If we want to compete now and not wait until 2019 or 2020 we need proven guys to get it done now. I have always been prospects & develop guy & still am but I just feel it is becoming realistic that DS may look like the Astros to bring in some attainable proven aspects
-
Hmmm don’t see it all, completely different pitchers. Frames completely different Manaea 6’5 245 Lefty Davies 6’0 (maybe) 155 Righty Manaea sits 92-93 for average Davies 90 Manaea was a K monster in minors 28+% 10+ per 9 who tends to walk 8% or 3+ per 9 Davies is command contact pitcher who has low Ks but doesn’t walk many. Manaea was always projected as frontline headliner.... Davies back end craft guy. Idk don’t see it at all. Manaea as all the talent to be at TOR guy but still learning to find success at this level & be as dominant as he was in minors. Davies is consistent at what he does but I would never say he’s TOR talent. He is who he is.
-
Did Brinson not just have hamstring surgery? I’d say any hamstring issues can be issues for future... surgery makes it more than a strain. I’m only trading Brinson for an All-Star who makes use better. Yelich is an upgrade right now. I’ll take his .290 hitting 20/20 offense, and him walking 10% of time while k’ing sub 20%. If we want TOR only reason to include Brinson is he is our best piece. Not rocket science.... you want a great piece....you need to trade a great piece.... as simple as that. It’s not that we all think he is a bust & needs to quickly go. That said I’m I have zero issue trading Ortiz in any deal that could bring back good value because I’m not as high on him. Woodruff, Burns, Peralta I think are all above him.
-
I think the thought process is the idea of salary sheds for cheap inexpensive pieces. While highly unlikely, I could see something like this if a team were willing to take on Chen as well. In no way I meant straight up, thought be crazy of them but you can package around Villar & Broxton to reduce prospect load. Add Ortiz & another prospect. You may get it. I personally don’t want Gordon, 2 straight seasons of sub 100 wRC+ Hes a speed slap hitter who doesn’t walk. Not an analytic guy.
-
Yelich will cost a lot more than Broxton... Yelich will cost Phillips and two of the Brewers top 10 prospects. Depends. They are going into full rebuild mode. They want to clear payroll. Broxton isn't a center piece of the deal. He is a guy they can plug and play who has track record. He is still very boom or bust guy. There is plenty of ceiling with him. Broxton, Ray Diplan could possibly get it done. If Brewers are willing to eat Ziegler or Tazawa's contracts... Could help lower price. I think it is foolish to say 3 top 10 prospects because that is claiming all systems are equal. They are not. Most of our 10-20 prospects would be top 10 in a system like the Angels or even Cubs now. Our 5-10 could be top 1-3 for many clubs. You judge your baseline off this is a good young, controllable player....he should get 3 top 10 prospects. 1) He is not that cheap while controllable. he will make 7, 9.5, 12, 14, and 15 over the next 5 years. That is different than trading for similar player who is pre-arby or early in his arby. 2) If a team is getting 3 top 10 prospect from us..... You are getting an elite talent. Not a .290 .810 OPS guy. I would say Domingo Santana has more value than Yelich since he is younger, 6.5 million dollars cheaper will hit for similar average, higher OPS, and while he doesn't have the speed, he has more power than Yelich. So essential your claim is we could trade him to a team like the Braves with a strong system (still) and steal 3 top 10 prospects? I doubt it. If so, he'd be traded, we'd clean up and insert Phillips everyday there. I still think Villar and Broxton have good value. They are uber talented, controllable, cheap, and pre prime players. For a month Broxton will be an elite player before he sucks for a month, then he will be elite, then suck again....Teams may buy knowing he has that elite talent in him and he is still growing. He has only like 600 career ABs right now. Villar was one of the top middle infielders in the game for a year. That talent is there. Like Segura, maybe contract stuff or putting pressure to do more caused him to drop off but he has it in him to get back. We could trade him now and next year we looking at him breaking back out like Segura. Not saying we shouldn't trade him but fact is people around baseball know these guys can play at a high level and will buy upside. On a rebuilding team, why wouldn't you?
-
Marlins dealing Gordon....Villar still young, talented, and cheap enough to go to Marlins. Maybe a deal involving Broxton for Yelich (maybe take Gordon as well) fill with some prospects like Ray
-
If you want to package Yelich to get reduced price by eating contract the options would be: CF Yelich 4 years 43.5 million plus 15 million option (7, 9.75,12.5, 14 per) 26-29 years RP Junichi Tazawa 1 year 7 million 32 year RP Brad Ziegler 1 year 9 million 38 year SP Edison Volquez 1 year 13 million 35 year 3B Martin Prado 2 years 28.5 million (13.5 & 15 per) 35-36 years 2B Dee Gordon 4 years 51 million (10.5,13,13.5, 14 per) 30-33 years SP Wei-Yen Chen 4 years 68 million (10, 22, 20, 16 per) 33-36 years OF Gicarlo Stanton 11 years and a ton of money Ziegler and Tazawa would make sense Gordon I'd consider. They could take Villar and Broxton for cheap from us but that is a lot of money going to 2 guys for 4 years Chen is very ballsy move since he cannot stay healthy. When he has actually pitched....he's been good but at his age doubt injuries will stop. Volquez maybe but he has not been good. Really just stealing spot for a prospect. No better than Garza Prado for 2 years would be tough. If it was one year he could be Aaron Hill and utility but not worth it. Funny thing is those guys make up 85% of Marlins salary! To me only Stanton, Yelich, and maybe Gordon are worth anything close to their price.
-
I think that is a perfect trade. Then I'd make a play at Archer. A lot of people aren't huge fans of that because he is 29 and not a "true Ace" but I strongly disagree to pass on him because of labels. I will take a pitcher who has finished in top 10 in WAR 2 of last 3 years. K's 10+ per 9 (29% of his batters). Keeps a FIP in usually low to mid 3's. He does walk usually in the higher 2's per 9 (7.5% of hitters) which still isn't bad. He sits 95-96 mph in his career. Ben Sheets like in that he depends on only 2 pitches while only throwing change 7% usually. For first time in career last season he gave up a lot of hard contact but track record and still finding success, make me feel better about it. I think that makes our staff and club better. His options take him through 2021 season. Again all depends where this team want to go this year. When Astros got in our shoes where they surpassed expectations earlier than expected they went into buy mode to speed up finish product. Brewers can spend this year trying to compete and letting their prospects grow. Trust the process or speed it up and get an All-Star caliber CF (right now) and a TOR arm. Both drastically increases our chances over the next 2-4 years (if we keep Archer through options) of competing for a title. Yelich will surpass Brinson's production over next two season I believe. Archer is upgrade over everyone not named 2016 Nelson. I'm fine either way. I'd love to see Brinson grow along with Woodruff, Hader, and etc but it is slower path to where we want to get to. There are growing pains, ups and downs and a process with them. Yelich and Archer are top of game right now.
-
Agreed, Yelich walks 10% and ks only 20% on average which both are exactly what you want out of a guy. He has hit around .290 and power would probably even increase more with age and Miller Park. His OPS has been sitting between .810 and .850. He also is a good athlete who can run. He is 20/20 type athlete right now at 25 years old. Could even burst out a 30/30 season in the coming years. Again though if I am trading for Yelich, Broxton is one to go with out of the three. "Flaboy" gets back to Florida and then we can turn sights on a TOR pitcher with Brinson. You trade Brinson for Yelich, you lose your greatest trading chip for that pitcher. Debate is where do we want to go this season? Is this another building year and letting young talent learn and grow...hope they perform and we compete OR do we go to make this team a competitor NOW. Yelich in the OF and a big arm, could help put us right there. Hope is DS can buy as well as he sells.
-
My only hope is that Georgia was punished 1-7 for losing to Auburn.....Bama deserves similar fate & at least drop to 5
-
Yelich Contract 2018- 7 million 2019- 9.75 million 2020- 12 million 2021- 14 million 2022 option at year 30 15 million Overall worth money I think HOWEVER new Marlins management wants zero to do with any big contract. They are going full rebuild & shedding money. They will take less prospects to do so. He is no Tebow but Marlins are not getting two MLB OFs. Brewers trade Brinson or Phillips then they can add another prospect AA or lower. It’d be awfully dumb of DS to trade off 2 very promising OFs who are set to play this year. You need 4 very good OFs. That 4th will play 4x a week rotating around. If I’m DS I push Broxton hard over Phillips & Brinson & add Ray or Grisham & lower level arm or BP minor league arm like Griep who could have good value. If you have Braun Yelich Santana.... you don’t need Broxton, Brinson, & Phillips. If you trade Broxton for Yelich, you can bait Brinson or Phillips for an TOR arm. My guess Brinson & roll with Phillips for 4th OF. That’d still be stellaf OF
-
Miami lose is huge. Michigan over OSU today will beef up our strength of victory but biggest Xfactor to me is Bama must beat Auburn & win out. If Auburn wins, committee will without a doubt keep Alabama over Wisconsin with 1 lose & no way Auburn wouldn’t jump Wisconsin. To them SEC is gold. Georgia losing would be nice but don’t see it.

Good, I prefer underdog roll vs expected excellence. At end of season you are far happier with a team that overachieves vs underachieves -
I’m fine trading for Yelich. You won’t need both Phillips & Brinson. With their rebuild & Yelich costing between I think 7-12 million a year until end of contract, they will want to clear that cost. Broxton, Ray, and ptbnl could be fair. Might even get Yelich for Brinson & ptbnl. Marlins care more about cutting cost over top tier talent in return. Braun Yelich Santana with Phillips the near everyday rotation 4th OF would be really good OF. Broxton & Brinson will have high & low streaks as that is who Broxton is & Brinson’s learning curve.

Your Prospect Don’t Trade List
Jenkins5 replied to Jenkins5's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Even if not untouchable who are ones or tiers of ones you least want to go? For right price, anyone can be traded & untouchable. Brinson, Harrison, Hiura, Peralta to me ate center pieces. There aren’t many players I’d be willing to trade 2 out of Tier one for. Archer for example I am not giving up multiple players in Tier 1 for. Lutz & Feliciano are to much of a buy low on for teams right now who stocks imo are as low as they will ever be. I have high hopes for each to rapidly rise as prospects. You put right player out there, I’d be fine trading anyone. There are guys though who I think can be core players or stock is way to low to sell on now. -
I follow Brewer Nation on instagram and there having been a lot of trade ideas posted. Most frustrating would be Marlins trade posted since Marlins care more about teams eating contracts over big prospect hauls. I mean they were entertaining an offer from Giants who have zero to offer really for Stanton & Gordon but that’s not the point.... The names thrown around have kind of bugged me. I want to see how others rate the prospects in our system they are willing to sell. I’m excluding Hader, Phillips, & Woodruff since I think they are already pieces in place for this season I think. If I did include them, Hader Tier 1 & Phillips & Woodruff would be Tier 2 but they are no longer really prospects to me. Top Tier or my Hate to trade list 1. Brinson 2. Harrison 3. Burns 4. Hiura 5. Peralta 6. Lutz 7. Feliciano To me Burns & Peralta are only 2 pitchers we need to keep. I don’t think either should be included in any trade. Lutz & Feliciano are very young duo who after this year in Wisconsin should rise a lot in value. I’m probably more bullish on Lutz as he may be my favorite pick this year and player I’m most excited to follow next year. Brinson & Harrison are 5- Tool gems that don’t grow on trees. Brinson will have ups & downs this year but the ceiling is too high to sell off before ever getting a real look. Hiura is best pure bat since Braun in system. 2nd Tier Hate to see go but understand 1. Diaz 2. Erceg 3. Ortiz 4. Diplan 5. Grisham 3rd Tier Top Players I can live with 1. Ray 2. Dubon 3. Gatewood 4. Ponce 5. Bickford 6. Nottingham And so on...... How does everyone else feel? Are you more willing to trade the likes of Brinson, Harrison, Peralta, Burns, Lutz than me? Peralta is a Hader right hand clone who can be elite BP arm if SP doesn’t work. Burns is a lot like Anderson & consistent. Brinson, Harrison, Lutz are MLB starters & I think All-Star type talents. Hiura same. Feliciano could be our top catching prospect since Lucroy.
