  1. To me core players don't need to be stars but solid guys who you can build around & that will be here probably until Arby's is up at least. Shaw could be a more productive McGehee Domingo Santana is Corey Hart Jimmy Nelson I'd put as a lower Yovani Think Pina is a guy who could hang around & at least split time or be key bench bat if someone like Nottingham comes up.... productive, great team guy, brings ton of energy to clubhouse. Arica is of course part of the core moving forward. Thames at least until contract is up, no one coming before that in system to push him. Knebel & hopefully Barnes can be. We have a lot of guys with a lot of control, hard to say how it all shakes out. Nelson is only SP right now I care about keeping around. Would say Anderson is core, the rest can go away (Davies, Guerra, Garza)
  2. QTC may be the best reliever in our system but flies under radar. I'm excited about him. His K Rates are outstanding. He is tough to hit, a lefty, and has been fairly consistent over past few years!
  3. Also I know Insaid I won't earlier but maybe trading Broxton would be fine. We platoon Brinson & Phillips out there & play match ups that are best for their strengths (CC is good at that). Braun needs his days off, Santana here & there so there should be ABs there.
  4. After watching Phillips home run today, I really would hate to lose him. He just has so much energy and is a guy who will be a fan favorite for a long time. Incredible clubhouse guy who is loved by everyone. Now, I know there is more important things & he needs to perform but I really enjoy watching him and following him! Cordell is easiest one to lose. He is MLB ready but absolutely no spot for him. Like Cooper, going to A's with a DH option & less than stellar OFs could help him crack lineup & help them. Tyrone Taylor continues to hit since coming back in small sample side. I wonder if the A's would bit on a former #1 prospect for us? He really hit a wall in double A but he was extremely impressive prior. Change of scenery & coaching could get him back to MLB prospect like he was. Talent has been there. He profiles more as a 4th OF but A's OF depth is pretty ugly.
  5. Shaw was outstanding to start last season but think it was an injury and then went cold. He just seemed not to mentally be able to get through slump. Rookie in Boston.... you go cold, you start pressing & pressing...fans start to turn on you a bit & you lose over half of your at bats. He seems to be more relaxed & confident. When he has had a few cold streaks he has been able to snap out of them fairly quick. Jimmy was flashing this in first half last year a bit until he dropped off. Talent is there & he is getting more consistent. Domingo is think 24 & really the Corey Hart type of hitter we were expecting & hoping for. He has went from a guy who could get traded off in beginning of year to make room (after really bad, injury filled season last year) to a guy who has earned being out there everyday & being part of the future. Think these guys all will be big parts over the next two seasons at least. Nelson & Shaw don't have prospects pushing them out of jobs. Out OF, Santana has proven himself
  6. I'd stay clear of trading any MLB bat, you could throw off chemistry & rotation when our offense has been clicking. Davies doesn't really hurt at all since we are upgrading & chemistry shouldn't be hurt much. Think any deal will need a near ready OF to get done. I know many hate Ray so through him out there in all these proposals but he is not close enough to help there ancient & unproductive OFs. I have a feeling it will be Phillips that we lose. Cordell preferably. Wren would be great add for them actually. He is a moneyball guy. He won't get a shot here with being so blocked. He's more of a throw in than headliner though
  7. So A's targeted an MLB arm & two low level kids. Does that give us any clues at all? In this market for relievers, I'm surprised by trade a bit. I don't think Nationals really had to give up too much. A down year reliever (good first 3 years though) a Lucus Erceg 22 year old A+ bat and a higher profile (higher ceiling) younger Carlos Herrera? Doolittle & Madsen I think are rentals (could be wrong) which plays a role.
  8. Well, crap lol No relievers will be added anymore, those were only two I'd consider in first place.
  9. To hard to tell, our roster & minor league system could look a little different come September
  10. Think adding Davies would be great considering he is appealing in that he has control & shown ability to succeed. Really, I don't think he is as bad as he has been this season, I just don't think he is in long term plans here. Guys ahead of him. Established MLB pitching holds a lot of value as well. Davies (fills A's rotation), Phillips (CF of future), and maybe Peralta (exciting young arm) or Coulter (There power OF/DH type they like). Prob a filler player in there as well. Kind of sucks that he has been on tear as of late to bring stock up higher. Stearns is all about value & think he will try to add a reliever as well in the deal. Only this I dislike about that is none of their relievers that have value are older & no team control really left. Maybe Doolittle or Madsen would be packaged in but think both are in final year of deals (not sure though). That don't have really any bad contracts, Brewers could eat rest of Madsen's contract or add R. Davis to deal & eat that to help out. A's have always been known as a cheaper team & could be interested in saving some money
  11. I'd like our top 3 heading down the stretch Jimmy Nelson Sonny Gray Chase Anderson Garza has been fairly consistent for us so not a bad 4 But Davies & Guerra are huge liabilities right now. Davies is maybe the luckiest pitch in MLB. He can walk out there & get shelled for 5 innings & still come out with a win every game. His run support is unreal.... lol if Ben Sheets gave up 1 run, his chances for a win free fell.... Davies gives up 5,6,7 runs... he's getting the win. Still hope Woodruff can get a look prior to Anderson coming back, maybe push Davies & Guerra out. Guerra just has dead arm & throwing meatballs for guys to crush
  12. Bring back right in mix of wildcard really helps a lot! Takes a little pressure off of needing to win division. For awhile wildcard was looking pretty far out of the picture! Not sold on Rockies keeping pace & Arizona still not sure how real they are yet. This next week of baseball will need a lot of wins against Phillies & Pirates! If finish sweep today & can go at least 5-2 over the course of the next week... we will be in great shape going into huge stretch of Nationals & Cubs to finish out month! Key is to avoid sweeps & try to at least steal two games from teams. If we avoid sweeps & take series from teams we should; we will be in great shape!
  13. Ventura has struck me as a Peralta later in milb career. Effective but K rates dropped off. Think they are similar build if I remember right. Velocity pitchers but may be like Wily with not much movement on it. Anyone taking notice of the jump Pierre is taking this season?! That's really good to see!
  14. I'm starting to come around on Gray a bit. DJ can get most out of him and has really turned it on now after slow start. He will cost us Broxton, Brinson, or Phillips for sure. A's are in desperate need of young athletic OFs. With the chemistry right now of this club, if don't see them trading Broxton. I love Phillips but think he'd be the odd man out in the equation. You'd also have to give up Woodruff, Burns, Ortiz, or Peralta as well. After that you may be able offer like Coulter, Ponce, Tyrone Taylor. Finish with a throw in. Think a Phillips, Ortiz, Coulter would get it done. Thin out OF log jam a bit. Coulter is the typical As OF plus can DH. Phillips gives them a 12 year younger CF who shouldn't struggle much worse than R. Davis right now. Ortiz gives them a high upside arm.
  15. I really don't think they would be shopping him at this point. He has been great in pen so far & he is arguably our highest ceiling starter/reliever. I feel starter is higher chance than shopping him. But like you said.... this time of year is craziness and anything can happen. Overall, Webb can be extremely effective Loogy they could use in pen. Hader is not a loogy at all. He can give you 1+ innings vs either side & be lights out. Nice to have two lefty options. One that can give you multiple innings if needed like Will Smith did and a guy who can come in and more specialize. Webb has ability to get righties out but is very good verse lefties. His k9 & Ks to innings have been lights out in his career! Like the trade. Really looking like Wang doesn't really factor into our future much.
  16. I loved the Lutz pick! He just seemed to be a natural hitter with great power potential. Think he will be a guy who will hit for good average & real solid OBP. The power seems to be as advertised.
  17. College sign last year, didn't make it out of Extended Spring training dispite play well last year. That was a warning sign to me that he had fallen behind.
  18. Well....if Stearns doesn't work out, think we may know a guy.... As connected, knowledgeable, and advanced he is, no doubt Brewers would win a World Series ring under him quickly.
  19. Uber athletic CFs tend to struggle with transition. Not in all cases of course. Bruxton is perfect example of this. To me Brinson's road numbers are troubling with the argument of him lighting up triple A... Don't think .270 with .860 ops prove hes so dominant that he is going to come up and outperform. Those aren't bad numbers of course but not dominant. I love Brinson. I'm excited for him! However, there is no certainty that he will outperform Broxton. Keon has proven himself at this level. He is ultra steaky like Weeks, yes. But.... like Weeks, when he is clicking, few are better. He is a gifted player who is still growing. Brinson got an unfair shake for success when he was up last time but did little to jump out & show he deserved more PT in chances he got. This is a 1st place team. Do we want a guy that we know what we are getting or roll dice & hope Brinson will make jump right away? In the end, Santana is an anchor right now who won't sit much. Braun gets his days off but is important elite bat when in lineup. Broxton offers plenty right now to start. Unless Braun is on DL, there is just no place for Brinson to get enough ABs consistently. Keon hasn't deserved to be bench for a player who showed very little when given his first shot (unfair, yes) no matter how talented he is. Broxton is also extremely talented but has track record. I'm on board with a Cordell call up. He is 25 already & see what he offers. same time, outside of still refusing to walk, I think Perez is fine covering. We all love Brinson but there is no rush. He will get his chance in time. Pump the breaks a bit. It is more common for an elite prospect to struggle at first than it is for them to be Bellinger or Lindor & explode.
  20. Peralta keeps growing/performing like this rest of season. His value will be much higher in off season or next July (sadly CS kills that a bit) Feliciano's value not close to what it could be in two years. Could be Mejia. Got trades treating him like a back end throw in. 18 year old who made all-star game, who has probably been closest thing to consistent bat in Wisconsin. Robertson makes it almost acceptable. I believe in Stearns that he will not bend to demands or devalue worth of prospects. Unless it is a true Ace who will anchor this staff, not worth selling off prospects before they reach true value. Guys like Clark, Felciano, Diaz, Peralta, and etc. haven't even touched surface of what value could be. Good for Oakland or White Sox for stealing away these types of guys at a lower value if DS bends to fan pressure of trading away farm for non elite players
  21. He's an excellent pitcher, just not elite .... and hasn't the whole world had a HR spike this season? Trading away system for an SP, should make it an Ace. CC & Greinke, those guys were aces. You knew you would most likely win every time they stepped on mound. Guys we are targeting in my eyes don't give you that. Very good pitchers but not sold on them being the kind of pitcher we really need on this team. I'm against buying & selling off system unless we are getting a game changer. So one to be excited about. I want elite otherwise try to find Marcum type trades that won't break bank.
  22. The more I see these trades, the more I cringe. Many of these prospects haven't hit AA yet, are young, have struggled, and values aren't as high as they can be if we wait. Selling low on guys while cleaning out system is even more painful. I'm more for trading log jam prospects that there is no room for or guys who will need to be protected but there won't be spot for. Like hate to lose Phillips but may be no room for him. Guys in A+ aren't even blocked yet & have lower weight in trades. Like DS has talked about in deals... target younger, you get more value because they carry less than higher up prospects. Miss the exciting days of selling & rebuilding.... selling off our whole system for overvalued MLB players is less than exciting. The days of winning trades may be over
  23. I've been using the Michael Reed comp for Stoked since Helena. The under the radar productive OBP monster with speed. Like said before though, he now is flashing power Reed never showed. If this was our system 3-4 years ago.... he'd be pushing top 10 but now it's tough. Our 25-35 prospects may be top 10 in many other farm systems. Due to age and level they count as sort of under the radar but we have started to collect our best ever wave of internal signings. I'm really high on Lujano, Abreu, E. Martinez, Carmona, and Familia! Add in an impressive Torres. Just a shame we haven't found many arms that really stand out like them. I believe at least one of these guys will hit & skyrocket. Who, not sure yet.
  24. My word, Padres get a steal! Clark is going to be really nice MLB OF & Ortiz has a chance to be really good 2-3 pitcher! Hand has been real good & believe has two years of control but that is though one. Prefer one of the older prospects like Ray & Ponce. Clark & Ortiz have been so young at every level.... only starting to tap into potential
  25. Yeah same goes for a guy like Ray. There is a huge cheering section for him to fail due to disliking the pick. We can go back & read, I was strongly against the pick but he is a Brewer & I will cheer for him. Not going to nitpick or create arguments to spend rest of his career here proving how bad of a pick it was. Get he was an advanced bat coming out of college & should be Ryan Braun but not all players develop & adjust the same. He is 1 year in and has faced some injuries. Like that whole roster, not hitting enough & k'ing too much but there is plenty of positives there! Power, speed, walks! His wRC+ is still at or above 100. Erceg has not been good this year and is creating 23% less runs than the average at same age. However, everyone loved the pick so he gets a free pass & excuses made for him. He doesn't walk, hasn't hit until recently, power is down, Ks a good amount but Ray & Clark are the ones who receive most of the hate in that lineup.
