  1. When judging prospects I like to look at age. For AA I think 23-24 year old season is the median age for a prospect. I like prospects to be between 21-23 at this level to rate them higher. Once you get to that 24-26 level, you're getting pretty old for the competition. Looking at the age for Biloxi players: Pitching 1993 J. Lopez - Feb ( 22 All season) 1991 *Williams - July (23 most) Magnifico - May (24 most) Johnson - April (24 all) Wagner - January (24 all) 1990 Popp - July (24 most) Hall - June (24-25) Barnes April (25 All) Position Players 1994 Arcia - August (20 all) Taylor - January ( 21 all) 1992 Reed- November (22 all) Rivera -May (23 Most) 1991 Wren - April (24 all) So Arcia, Taylor, Reed, Lopez, Rivera, Williams are all under 24 for the whole season which is impressive and good for a higher prospect rating. A lot of college guys reach AA around the 23-24 range such as your Wagner, Johnsons, Williams and Magnifico's so they are still decent prospects. Only thing you'd hope for is these college arms would be advanced and move up quicker. That is why age still hurts prospect ratings here.
  2. When judging prospects I like to look at age. For A+ I think 22-23 year old season is the median age for a prospect. I like prospects to be between 20-22 at this level to rate them higher. Once you get to that 23-25 level, you're getting pretty old for the competition. Looking at the age for Brevard players: Pitching 1993 Ortega - June (21-22) Earls - March (22) Woodruff - February (22) 1992 Seidenberger June (22-23) Terry June (22-23) Wang April (23 most) Salas March (23) Position Players 1993 Angel Ortega - September (21 all) Omar Garcia - August (21 most) Clint Coulter - July (21 most) 1992 Chris McFarland - November (22 all season) Taylor Brennen - January (23 all season) 1991 Victor Roache -September (23 all season) A. Ortega, Garcia, Coulter, McFarland, J. Ortega, Earls, Woodruff, are all good age (under 23) for a prospect at this level to be rated a little higher in rankings. Roache, Brennen, Wang are all still decent prospects based on age....however, Roache and Wang would rank high by starting out in AA. Brennen is where he needs to be, he is a Taylor Green type prospect.
  3. Dustin Demuth has to feel like an old man amongst his non-catcher position player peers. Born in 1995 (Decending Youngest to olders) 19-20 year old season Gatewood -September (19 all season) Harrison - August (19 all season) Neuhaus - June (19-20) Diaz - April (20) Aviles - March(20) Denson - January (20) Born in 1994 (descending) 20-21 season Rubio - July (20 most of season) Munoz - February (21) Born in 1993 21-22 season Jose Pena - March (22 all season) Dustin Demuth born 7-30-1991 will be 24 in July A decent amount of young arms (I consider any pitcher over the 21-22 range as getting a little old for the league) 1996 18-19 Medeiros - May (19 most) 1995 19-20 Burkhalter - July (19 most) 1994 20-21 *Devin Williams - September (20 all) Once he recovers from injury if minor M. Gomez - April (21 all season) 1993 21-22 Diaz - October (21) Rizzo - September (21) Ortega -April (22) 1992 Cy Sneed - October (22) Ventura - April (22) So you got Medeiros, Gatewood, Harrison, Burkhalter, Neuhaus, Williams, Diaz, Aviles, Denson, and Rubio will all be under 21 for nearly entire season! I remember when we had to be excited about 21-22 year old kids being here because we layed off high school kids or never pushed them really. Love the aggressiveness and new approach the Brewers are taking!
  4. Looking ahead to next year: Hayes and Koenig are two guys who will be huge next season with Frank, Gasser, Jackson, and Gasser gone and if Dekker leaves as well. Really believe it or not, I think we will still be in very good shape. You can not replace Frank or Sam very easy, however, in Ryan's system and next man up, they can off-set those numbers and still be very good. C. Vitto Brown Big shoes to fill but he is a long, good mid range jump shoot, can rebound and block shots. Issue is his feet and getting in foul trouble. PF Ethan Happ - From what I have heard and read, he is the guy who will step up and play a huge role next year. He is said to be arguably the hardest worker on the team and if not for deciding to redshirt this year, he could have had a big role with team off the bench. I could see him kind of stepping up and filling that Hayes role. I see him a possibly a Jon Leuer type in developing. SF Nigel Hayes Now that he can shoot the 3. He has the inside out ability to move down to the 3 spot. Hayes in my eyes has always been the x-factor the last 2 seasons for the Badgers. If they could get him going, everything else would just open up. He is a guy who will thrive in the leader/star role. SG Zac Showalter Essentially he is your more explosive/ not as good shooting Gasser. Defensive ace that will bring energy to the floor. This will be a pretty good battle for the starting job with Jordan Hill who according to Bo sometimes looks like the best player on the court in practice but has been inconsistent and buried. PG Bronson Koenig Koenig like Hayes is ready for the lime light. With him being counted on to score more should be no issue. I can't think of a Badger PG outside of Devin Harris who offers this much pure scoring and passing ability as Bronson. His stock will rise maybe the highest next season. The others PG/SG Jordan Hill As noted above, he seems to be a guy with Happ who will be next years unknowns to really rise. Whether it is off the bench or starting, he will be a big contributor. Think Koenig prior to Jackson's injury. SG Brevin Pritzel Think Ben Brust. Kid can flat out shot the ball. As a freshman he could find himself a role with the team off the bench. C/PF Alex Illikainen Freshman is said to be the most college ready for next year and with littler amount of depth at C/PF he could find himself as a top big off the bench (depending if Hayes stays at PF or slides down to SF). I heard to think Mike Wilkerson type of game when thinking of him. SF-SG Riley Dearring Another inexperienced guy who hasn't played much but could have a role increase. Will compete for a wing job. SF/SG Kahlil Iverson He is my favorite player in class and the one I think will have biggest impact in future if not next season. He is a slasher at 6'5 who does everything, scores, rebounds, passes, steals, and is all over court. He is a high-flyer who has an inconsistent jump shoot right now. He is compared to Alando Tucker and that excites me. PF Charles Thomas Undersize PF at 6'7 who is a big body and said to be a "junkyard dog" type. I could see him sitting and developing. Not as polished. Overall, we will be inexperienced and not as deep but this is still a team that will compete in the Big 10 and should be a Sweet 16 type of 4/5 seed team
  5. Our bullpen is outstanding, I'll echo that I can see all those guys being successful MLB RP pitchers. Rotation is alright, Jungmann, Gagnon, Cravy all need to take the next step this year to deserve/earn their next step. Jungmann doesn't really have a choice at all since he is first on the list if the Brewers need a SP. Our position players are filled of career bench type guys. Outside of Sardinas I don't see an everyday type guy on the roster. The OF is a bunch of waiver wire guys who at best may be #5 OF's or a #4 if depth is really shady. In the infield, Clark could possible someday find himself as a starter in the MLB, jury is still out on him. Sardinas I think is the best prospect on the team. Rogers is solid but not a guy of the future. Overall this is a team that should dominate competition and win a lot of games. A lot of AAAA and MLB bench guys who will hit. Pitching is a strength. Get it to the bullpen with a lead in the 7th and this team will be tough to beat.
  6. @BrewersPD: @RyanClarence he did have an injury during spring training That is in regards to Devin Williams not starting in Wisconsin
  7. So brewers see no future in Garfield, 3 straight years without giving him a promotion.... That means we still have zero hope for a catching prospect in our system.... Hope Roache goes up when Ratterre is move to BC (assuming)
  8. Didn't think about Williams but there is no reason if he is healthy that he shouldn't be here.... If Burkhalter and Kodi made it, Willisms doesn't make sense
  9. So guy mashes all spring so u hold him back.... If u want a guy to hit more, best bet is not to hold him back in a league and stadium that is arguably the worse for hitters. Terrible decision in my opinion. Roache, Ramirez, Denson stock all took a nice hit this spring as prospects by being held back
  10. I was pretty close with my projections. Exciting team roster!depressing Denson had the injuries last year, a terrible spring and was held back...luckily he still is only 20. My bold Burkhalter prediction was right and we finally get to see the former DSL studs in Rizzo and Gomez finally in A ball. 1b Denson 2b Munoz Ss Gatewood 3b Neuhaus C McCall LF Diaz CF Harrison RF Rubio Bench DeMuth AViles Leal Pena This is going to be a fun offense if they play up to potential!
  11. Yeah, what ever happened to Brian? Is that why the website is dead? I've always wondered if posters disappeared or if they just changed names. Me too. I personally have been posting on this site since 2002 or 2003 when I was a young high school student. Back to the Brad Nelson, Dave Krynzel, Mike Jones, JJ Hardy, Cory Hart, Prince Fielder, Manny Parra, Ben Diggins, Callex Crabbe, Kennard Bibbs, Ben Hendrickson, Luis Martinez, Christian Guerrero, Pedro Liriano, Tom Wilhelmson, Steve Moss, Kade Johnson, Jason Belcher, and JM Gold days......that is when I found this site and began to LOVE minor league baseball! Since then I have gone through gosh knows how many names....the last ones I remember were BrewCrewWS2008 that I created in 2006 or so, then YoungGeezy to now YoungGeezy1. I wish I could remember what my old ones before that were...
  12. So how much money do we loss cutting our loses with Cotts.....not sure he could be much more terrible this Spring. Chris Perez is the cheaper better lefty option. Pride and money probably will cause Melvin to hold on to him...basically giving us another worthless bullpen arm like with Wang last season. Today he was stellar again with giving up 5 runs while only recording 1 out.... If your keeping Gomez, not sure why you keep Herrera. Schafer offers little in my eyes outside of defense (which is still below our 4th OF). Herrera I know can be a 5th OF but can't Clark play LF a little bit? They said they want to get Clark more consistent AB's but he is your big power threat off the bench....you need guys like that. Schafer has been disappointing off the bench to me and he is a 5th OF in a loaded OF that has 1 of the top 4th OFs in baseball to back up all 3 spots.
  13. Think Harrison is a lock for Wisconsin. Gatewood seems to me to be a longer shot. My guess is he'd perform close to Coulter did in his first go. His swing still has too many holes judging by his ks still this spring. Guy not to be surprised jump.... Burkhalter! He has had a great spring so far. Hope he can become a real pitching prospect for is! My guess as of right now u got Wisconsin shaping up like C McCall 1B Sharkey 2B Munoz (SS when DeMuth plays 2b) SS Aviles 3B Neuhaus LF Diaz CF Harrison RF Rubio DH/1B/3B Matos C Leal OF Meyer BC C Neda 1b Denson 2b McFarland SS Ortega 3b Brennen LF Rateterre CF Garcia/Davis RF Coulter DH Cooper (1B) C Eshelman 2b/ss Castillo Util IF Holcomb 2b/SS/3b Two guys I can't decide on is DeMuth and Pena. I believe DeMuth starts in Wisconsin and Pena in BC Biloxi C Garfield/Berbet 1B Ramirez (blocked AAA) 2b Rivera/Arcia SS Arcia/Rivera 3b Orf LF Roache CF Taylor RF Reed 1b/3b Garza Util If Rodriguez Of 4 Richardson 3B Macias Don't know if Orf plays 3b at all but they like him it appears and he needs somewhere to play with Arcia & Rivera duel going on. Colorado Springs Not interesting enough to breakdown... Hunter Morris, waivers, last cuts.
  14. The one thing people have always said about Scooter and the one thing everyone knew he could do is hit. We have heard Brewer front office say that for a long time. He will hit. Now his defense, power, walks, and every other tool may be up in the air but the kid can just hit a baseball. He is a .300ish hitter in his sleep. See no reason to not give him every reason to prove to be an everyday player.
  15. For this years draft it really does seem like a crap shot. As of right now people are all over the board. I see some guys in the top 10 on this site then rated in the 30s on this one. I'm having a hard time picking out my favorites. Betts, Jones, Clark, Randolph, Baker, Orimoloye are all guys who interest me the most at 15 or 40 but there really aren't any guys I'm crushing on... Be heart broken not to get like I was Homer Bailey, Trout, Baez, etc
  16. Thornburg is not a true reliever yet, Brewers still can't make up mind on him
  17. I think juice may be worth the squeeze with Aiken depending on how draft board is falling. If there is a high ceiling guy who is good to go know that Montgomery likes, then no. But if the board isn't falling well and it's between Aiken or some Jungmann high floor- low ceiling guy then Aiken all the way. Side note, pet pev of mine.... GM has little to do with draft at all. It was Seids show now it's Montgomery. Melvin does not spend time scouting prospects, his plate is a little full looking for MLB talent. He is in room, and probably gets reports on who they like but isn't making any decisions. He trust his guys.
  18. Not worried, he will get it going, if not Jungmann or someone else will get the opportunity. Just hope it's not physical and everything feels good. At some point u neec to give ur homegrown kids a shot. He has been ur #1 prospect for a couple years, why panic and pull the plug? Was Peralta perfect from day 1? No. Did he deserve opportunity due to his ability to work through the struggles? Yes. Going back to AAA to dominate the league will not do him very much good. He is already 25-26, he isn't some young 21-22 year old. Overall, it's Spring, some pitcher start slower and take a bit to get going. I rather have him struggle now in the beginning than at the end.
  19. For anyone who hasn't noticed, Brooks Hall has been arguably the most dominant Brewers SP in whole system this spring. Is this the year he finally steps up and becomes the prospect we hoped for?! Most impressive is his K rate so far. He had always been a contact guy who didn't miss many bats. Anyone know where he is sitting these days?
  20. I don't forsee anyway Monte Harrison is in Wisconsin opening day. He has earned that the way Taylor did for his first full season. Gatewood is tough to decide on. They will have Avilies at SS and Tucker Neuhaus/Stervin Matos @ third base. I'm curious to the strides he's made with how hard he had worked this off-season. Maybe a 2 month Coulter stop? If not doing well, go back down to Helena in June?
  21. Essentially Lara will out produce Bryant, Baez, Soler combined making Miguel Cabrera look like a Luis Jiminez while leading Brewers to the World Series at 21. In his 21 season he will hit .372/.554/.701/ 57HR's 156RBI's while still stealing 20 bases. Triple Crown, MVP, and Gold Glove at 3B will all be in hand. He will instantly become the face of baseball. That is what I envision anyways....ha Realistically I am getting more and more excited about him. Honestly, it would not surprise me to see them actually be more aggressive with him. He will start in Helena with Harrison and Gatewood (3B) is my guess. Luis Aviles is only competition however at SS in Wisconsin I believe so who knows. I just get a feeling Harrison makes the Wisconsin Jump. The have done it with Scooter, Taylor, Arcia, and others
  22. Middleton is good but he needs to find a way to score consistently. He has ability to disappear and not be as aggressive. He has the shooting talent around the ability of Michael Redd....the difference is Redd thrived on that ability while Middleton hasn't built that type of confidence yet. I think he wants to be a Buck and part of the youth movement, I hope that is enough to keep him around the 7-8 million range....really that's what we pay Mayo already.
  23. Starters (8) 1B Lind 2B Gennett SS Sergura 3B Ramirez LF Davis CF Gomez RF Braun C Lucroy Bench (5) C Maldondo CIF Jimenez MIF H. Gomez OF4 Parra SP (5) 1 K. Lohse 2 M. Garza 3 W. Peralta 4 M. 24. Lou Palmisano> Greg McCall and Caption Lou can tell you why not to bite so fast on older college guys (except Lou was still younger like 21) at lower levels. Cameron Garfield is still the top catching prospect all around in my opinion by far. He was a young talented kid who was on fast track. After being drafted they pushed him to Helena, in his first full season they pushed him to Wisconsin....not unlike Coulter, McFarland, Denson and many other young kids who are pushed right away up to Wisconsin, he didn't have an outstanding season but not a bad one either. Then 2011 derailed his career with only 15 games played. He game back to repeat Wisconsin in 2012 while still on the mend from his injury and had a very good season. 2013 at 22 in an non-offense friendly league and stadium, I thought he did very good, was one of the better bats on team and in no way should he have been held back in 2014 again. He doesn't walk and that is what really kills him. He has a live bat, only problem his he gets hurt so often, it is hard for him to have prolonged good stretches. 2014, I can't defend him, I have been on his bandwagon through all the bumps in his career but he was a big let down to me last year. From not being promoted to AA after Spring to the way he hit last season. I think he just needs to get out of that league. In Biloxi I could see him getting back on track. Weisenburger very well could be a major league catcher with his defense. He will offer a low .200 batting average my guess is, almost no pop, however, he can walk and give you great defense which is what you mostly look for in a #2 catcher Our catching depth is actually really depressing, who is there to really look forward to? Johel Antencio? Beau Bishop? I pretty much have to keep faith in Garfield by default. Luckily he is only in his 23/24 year old season, that's still pretty good for a AA catcher or at least average.
