  1. A good way to put it. We'll be seeing a lot of them, but I'm glad 7 of the ten will be in late Sept. Would love to clinch before that last series in STL.
  2. The worst part of that whole review was that it was an umpire review, right? The Cards need to be charged a challenge there.
  3. Yeah, Woody was maybe trying something with the offspeed too.... I want to sweep as much as anyone just because Cardinals, but if the Brewers lose, they'll still have done exactly what they needed to. Started 8-2 on a big 19-game stretch, plus extended the division lead.
  4. Long way to go. Leadoff single to Knizner was the real killer. Just gotta get the backup catcher when you've got him 0-2.
  5. Imagine tonight's "A" pen is some combo of Sanchez, Cousins, Suter, and Box. Would like Woody to keep up the efficiency of the last two innings.
  6. Haven't fared well with RISP this series. Putting together good ABs though.
  7. Seems like everyone is pretty confident it's minor. I know lots of folks won't feel good until he's striking guys out again, though. Overall, I think it ended up about as positive as you could hope after leaving the game that early.
  8. Saw the Freddy quotes from McCalvy and Hardricourt. Guessing IL stint for sure (why not?), but early returns are...good news. Seems like precautionary. Inflammation but something he's been dealing with. I'd let him skip a turn or two. Hope the team is careful, but it is good to hear Freddy express confidence re: his next start.
  9. It’s coming. Robots would also revolutionize the big curveball pitcher who nips the bottom edge of the zone with the catcher catching it about 8 inches off the ground…., an obvious ball to umps now but actually a strike. I actually think we’ll see many more walks with the automated strike zone. Pitchers get a lot of calls just outside the zone, and hitters will have more confidence in laying off those pitches. This is the unintended consequence I worry about too. I do think pitchers will also learn to pitch to the bottom of the zone more, though, and that might counterbalance some of the impact.
  10. Interesting thought, but seems like you might as well go full DH if you are going to go this option. Pretty rare that a RP bats (although, I guess one position player would be burned by the original DH - so perhaps more possibility for a RP batting). One of the arguments for having the pitcher bat is that in a one or two run game in the 6th or 7th inning, your starter is pitching well with a relatively low pitch count, a rally going, pitcher's AB comes up - now there is a strategical decision to make that you don't have with the DH. The compromise you suggest would not keep that in place. But it would add the reverse... "If I remove my SP, I lose my DH." That becomes a factor in an interesting way. I dig this idea. It's fun.
  11. This is true. I keep thinkong of Jimmy Nelson, but that was a truly freak shoulder injury. Freddy just looked like he overdid it swinging....question is whether there was some pre-existing damage the swing aggrevated.
  12. Yeah...short of a tear or high-grade strain, I would hope 4-5 weeks could be enough rest to let Freddy begin throwing again. Even available out of the pen (or to throw 50 pitches), he's a major asset. I would think there are a lot of possible outcomes where this ends up okay. Of course, the one really bad possible outcome (some kind of tear) is going to keep us all nervous until it's ruled out.
  13. I really think something was up with Freddy before that AB. His velo seemed down a bit. Looked really irritable with Chris Hook during mound meetings. Just not himself. Still hoping it's just a precaution, something a skipped start or two could take care of.
