  1. This is dumb. Suddenly the innovative pen management has 180'd into the old school "I will only pitch this guy with a lead in the ninth"? What is happening?
  2. I understand not wanting to use Hader in a tie in May. June. July. But if you're not going to use him here on three days rest, I don't get it. I k ow we probably need a win tomorrow too, but this is probably the highest leverage inning of the year. I want my best guy out there.
  3. Have we become too neurotic about sports? Are sports less fun now? Sometimes I think so. Some of my enjoying baseball less this year is surely the result of the Brewers being less good, but I am getting 3TO fatigue. Just not my favorite version of the game. Between that and endless pitching changes and 4-hour games happening regularly...well, I hope they fix the ball and commit to the pitch clock. And we make an effort to reform the lineup Houston style.
  4. Strike 1bto Yelich was brutal. Can't blame him for swinging at Strike 2. So ready for the electronic zone. Good umps are good enough. Problem is, there are way too few of them.
  5. I don't think there are. There are people, like me, who want it to happen. But we all know it isn't. There’s one right here. We all figured, or at least I did, probable losses vs Cubbies LHP, then with the wind blowing in > very very high probability of losses first 2 games. Sunday’s game I’m hoping they can win, it’s probably a toss-up. It’s not a light switch, it’s massive pitching added to make a dominant bullpen. A couple of position player additions to help too. This team can get hot in a hurry. I guess I just feel like if there were options to get outs on the 40-man, they'd be up already. I hope you're right, bit 5 games is a lot to make up in 27 games even getting massively hot. If it's a loss today, you have to go 20-8, and, even then, if the Cubs or Phillies play a shade over .500, you're done. Admire the optimism, though!
  6. Disagree. He went past the bag, easy. And slid late. That is exactly the Utley rule slide.
  7. I thought the same thing, but the wind seems fairly tame today, and it hasn't seemed to impact the Cubs results at all either. Yoou're right, though. The offense is so, so inconsistent beyond Yelich.
  8. Arcia is what he is at this point. I wish Villar had turned into something better than Schoop. Or that we got the Schoop the Twins got.
  9. I am not one to complain about celebrations, but what the heck was with the bat slam?
  10. Going to have to score about 8 to win today methinks. I have no playoff hopes, but I still want to beat the Cubs and Cards every time we play. Oh well. You can never take away Game 163 at Wrigley, can you? And, hey, two stupid outs on the bases for the Cubs. Surely, the baseball gods will punish them, right? Right?
  11. I thought maybe Chase figured something out in 2017. Maybe injuries had sonething to do with it, but it sure looks like that was the outlier. Anderson in fooling no one.
  12. This is sort of the year I expected last year. I think, in retrospect, it is so clear how many things had to go right to make that year so good. Burnes and Woody had to emerge as bullpen options. Aguilar had to go from possibke bench bat to all-star. Yelich had to be all-world. JJ had to find his early-career mojo. Hader had to be just about as unhittable as a reliever can be. Kratz. Chacin. Etc. This year, almost the opposite has happened. Injuries and massive underperformance from key guys. Given the run differential, I almost wonder if this roster isn't OVERperforming thanks to an MVP bat and some young starting pitchers., as well as a still great Hader. The good news is, next year is promising given Yelich, Hiura, Woodruff, Houser, and about 30 mil off the books.
  13. He’s pretty short, and that really diminishes the value of the bat. Even DH lowers the value IMO. His uniqueness is being a 2B with that power potential. Makes sense. I guess we did carry Rickie Weeks for what? A decade?
  14. On the bright side, Mets and Phils have lost. Cards in a rain delay, but I think the division is real far-fetched at this point anyway. If the Nats hold on (very question able given that BP) and the Crew loses, we are no worse off than this morning re: the wild card.
  15. You know, I think we are going to win tonight. Go Brewers!
  16. Just to contradict myself, I also remember getting swept by Cincy in Sept. Of 2017 and feeling like we were done, only to stay in it until the final weekend. And then there was the sweep of the Dodgers in 2014 that made me feel like we were definitely winning the division, amd we all know how that turned out. So I have been wrong a lot. And 37 games (assuming they don't come back tonight) is still an eternity. But it is more about the roster than the standings I think...
  17. Yeah, it feels like this team is nowhere near good enough to make a run, and not good enough to be in it at all. Really, really hard to run off a bunch in a row with that bullpen, and, given the standings, you really need to play about .600 down the stretch to have good shot.
  18. Who else is there? Nobody who has shown they're better at the moment. True enough. One day enough for JJ? Peralta? Albers?
  19. Williams seems an odd choice here for the middle of the order, but I guess they want to see what he has. Either that or CC has as much confidence in the offense as we do...
  20. It was the lead off walk...you CANNOT do that. You just can't. Yeah, I don't know. Carpenter just had a great AB. Those were all pretty good pitches... To me, the frustrating thing is that other teams often seem much better at stringing together solid ABs.
