  1. Well, one back of two teams for the division. Lots of games against both. 10-6 against Cubs and Cards should give them a good shot.
  2. I think CC said the plan was to nibble and then pitch to Cron. It looked like it watching, but wow. Bold.
  3. That was ugly start to finish from Gio. Good job from JJ. I think it will take more than 5 to win today, so let's finally turn hits into runs.
  4. Hope Gio can get through this clean, and then hit for him. I know it's only the fourth, but Guerra and JJ and whoever else are just going to have to get outs today.
  5. I think this team has some really fun guys, and I don't think this season is over. That said, I don't think they're good enough to make the playoffs. Just nowhere near enough pitching paired with an offense that is too inconsistent. I would say Cain's health/regression anf Knebel's injury have been the biggest factors. Shaw a close third.
  6. I have to say, compared to those Facebook games last year, the YouTube production just seems much cleaner and more professional.
  7. Well, so as not to stack lefties. But clearly would have rather had Thames in that situation if you could pick.
  8. The worst part about Cubs radio is Ron Coomer, sure. A close second is the sheer amount of ads. What other broadcast has a sponsor for such concepts as "The Northwestern Medical Heart of the Order." Ueck talking about sausage can be annoying to some, sure. I get it. But the Cubs would sell access to Maddon's facial hair if they thought it would make 30 bucks.
  9. Gio with a lot of pitches and a little out of sync, but the results are nothing to complain about after 4 innings. See if the offense can string a few hits together.
  10. A win today guarantees a winning March/April (technically 12-12 in April and 3-1 in March at the moment), so that would be really nice given the schedule. Hope Gio looks good. Imagine Hader is available for an inning at most. Aguilar getting the start against the lefty, so let's hope he gets going.
  11. This is not an excuse, and I'm as frustrated by this team's pitching as anyone (It's also April, and we've all known this month was just going to be brutal, schedule wise. I think the team should be happy just to be above .500 on May 1). But most folks seem to agree the ball is different again. It's flying further, and that likely plays into some of the Brewer pitcher homer woes (of course, it's also helped our offense, so there's that). It has to be hard for GMs and owners to plan when the main piece of equipment changes so much from year-to-year. Look at Domingo Santana. He looks like a 30 HR guy now, just like 2017, back when the ball was like this. 2018, when it was semi-normal (though still flying), he was a 5 HR guy. Obviously, not ALL of that is the ball, but it's a factor, and it makes sense it would be for Burnes too. If nothing else comes out of this game, maybe that dinger gets the Mayor back on track.
  12. Yeah, that was about the worst face the minimum inning you could have....
  13. So, what does JJ need to do to be trusted as a save/hold guy? Two good outings? Three? Velo and location only?
  14. Speaking of middle-middle fastballs, Shaw isn't doing a lot with them either. Honestly, I think the pen and staff are both pretty middling (though Hader might make the BP above-average by himself). I worry aboit how long the offense can sustain success without any contributions from Shaw and Aggy.
  15. Yeah, Jesus is missing middle-middle fastballs. Watching him is ugly right now.
  16. Barnes has been pretty darn good lately. I hope he can become a trusty high-leverage guy. He has been so streaky so far in his career, but consistent Jacob Barnes makes this pen a lot better.
  17. Well, how about the steadying hand from Wilkerson so far? Make it interesting at least, offense. Wacha isn't this good.
  18. I don't know. Then you're banking on Junior stretching out and Burnes figuring it out in shorter spurts. Sure, you could end up improving the starting rotation AND bullpen, but isn't it just as likely you just make an already thin BP worse for a marginal rotation improvement?
