  1. Guys like Hendricks and Steele seem like bad matchups for Joey. That "deceptive" stuff turns the aggression in on itself.
  2. It is very hard to win 2 games in a row when you give up 13 runs and do not hit a HR. By all rights we should have lost this one (Throwing Clayton in extras, getting that run on Contreras running to first, being down 4 in the 8th). Stings not to have stolen it because it was right there. Brightside: Williams and Payamps get reset. Cubs bullpen is wrecked. Take care of business the next two days and go beat up on the Reds.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts the 7th. 96 pitches. Soft-tosser. Ross not a lot of trust in his pen. Etc.
  4. Just put an imaginary safe zone above the base already.
  5. Turang beat the throw. Turang did not overslide the bag. Hoerner used Turang's momentum to push him off the bag. Turang is out. I hate the way baseball adjudicates tags applied after the runner initially touches the base. It's a joke, and I would say that if Turang did the same thing Hoerner just did.
  6. Come on, Willy. Gotta keep it in front at least. I don't have a lot of faith in the offense putting up more than 4 again, but man would it be sweet to have two comebacks like that in a row against the Cubs.
  7. He seems to either get completely rocked or just dazzle the Brewers. Though that could be impressionistic memory.
  8. Will Hendricks throw a complete game shutout?
  9. Been playing from behind a lot the last three days.
  10. Honestly, at this point I'm just interested in the Brewers winning as many as possible. The difference between being a third wild card and a third division winner seems very small to me, especially since Great American plays to the Brewers strengths a little bit. Someone out of the Reds, Marlins, Giants, and Phillies are going to drop off. Plus, we've got 9 games coming against the Reds.
  11. Alright, the Reds are good. They will go through a bad stretch eventually (starting pitching is thin, and that ballpark is really going to test it), but I think this is going to be a tight race all the way to the end. I have a hard time seeing the Brewers creating a ton of separation. That said, how good are the Giants? How good are the Marlins? I thought the NL Central was bad, but I will not be at all surprised if the division has two playoff teams.
  12. This is one of those games where there's a big difference between losing by 5 or 6 and losing by 2 or 3. Cubs have had to cover a lot of BP innings lately, and you have to make them earn it, especially when you figure it's going to be tough to put up a big number the next few days against 3 really, really good SP.
  13. The fourth inning was frustrating. So is letting Fulmer lock down 2 1/3.
  14. Give Julio credit. Got dinked and dunked a little in the second, but getting through six is nice.
  15. I probably would have PH Tellez there just to force Ross' hand and bring in Kay. Concede the lefty-lefty to make them burn another reliever. Miller moves to third, Tellez at first. Take your shot with a guy who's got the better chance to tie the game.
  16. I mean, Ross went to a mediocre bullpen in the fourth inning, and the Cubs have lost their DH. Long way to go. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 8 or 9 to win this game.
  17. Worried a little about this series. I think the Brewers match-up well with the Reds. Similarly, I think the Cubs match-up well with the Brewers. Starting pitching is good, other than Taillon who won't pitch this series. Two lefties going. We'll see. Cubs had to cover 10 innings yesterday, didn't end until late, Alloway had to throw 25 pitches, so hopefully they'll be tired. Go Crew!
  18. Yeah, I gotta think Wilson is a better option here, right? Best of a bad bunch, granted, but still the best.
  19. Frustrating thing is they had so many hittable pitches and did absolutely nothing with them. And now they won't even make Buck throw the A pen again. Ugly.
  20. Weather looking a little sketchy for this series. Might see a double-header at some point. I'm thinking Thursday.
  21. They've been okay on the road, and I generally agree with this, but I think GAB is worse than Coors in the "no lead is safe" category. The Reds sure seem relentless is every game I've watched of theirs, but I've only watched GAB games so far.
  22. My long-term concern about this team is that they don't have anything they're really good at. Defense, I suppose, but I feel like you've got to be top-tier in offense, rotation, or bullpen to really compete. Maybe Woodruff helps a little with rotation, but I'm just not confident in any aspect of this team's roster game-to-game.
  23. Yeah, thumbs down on the lettering for sure. I am I the minority, but I LOVE the Brewers CC unis. That powder blue is awesome. Even the chintzy grill patch is fun. To each their own, I guess.
  24. I just don't think you want to turn over the entirety of the strike zone to a machine. Check out "Subject to Review" on ESPN+. It's a fantastic deep-dive into Hawkeye in tennis, and it does a great job of covering some of the drawbacks of a camera-based system. Mainly, those drawbacks involve the cameras having their own margin of error and promoting the illusion of certainty. For me, the debate isn't between "wrong" umpires and "correct" technology. It's between authentically subjective umpires and falsely objective technology. The automated strike zone would have a bias. It would not be neutral. I'd prefer we correct the most impactful missed calls rather than adopt a once-and-for-all, binding machine-centered viewpoint. If that makes me a Luddite, I accept it.
