  1. Sure, but we're still very SSS right now. I mean, I think the Reds are good. Their young players have been awesome. But it's pretty common for really good rookie players to fall off after the ASB. Pitchers make adjustments, can the hitters adjust back, etc. I don't know what's going to happen. But it's not crazy to think the Reds are about a .500 "true talent" team that's had a really good stretch. I think there's less uncertainty around the Brewers. They are a .500 team that tries to push closer to .540 by winning a lot of close games. They'll be between 79 and 85 wins probably. I could see the Reds anywhere from 80 to 95.
  2. If Burnes wanted to toss a CG shutout tomorrow, I would not complain.
  3. I think 2-2 is a fair result. Cubs really should've won Games 1 and 2, and Brewers should have won 3 and 4. Still, both teams will be really upset not to have taken 3 of 4. Sounds like Brewers-Cubs to me. Now if the Nats can just steal this game in Washington, that would really be nice.
  4. I don't care what anyone says. Yelchin has earned every dollar the Brewers will pay him. And not just because he hit a massive danger today.
  5. Today I am wondering if 1 run might be enough.
  6. Lol. Yup. Yup, it does. Owen Miller really struggles at first base. That's a tough throw for sure (and the pick was great), but I've seen firstbasemen make that play look easy.
  7. Fifth, right? Went down 2-0 in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Sure would be nice to score first one of these days. Stroman has Yelich's number for sure.
  8. Well, the Reds have entered a rain delay in DC. Looks like they'll be able to get the game in, but a longer delay is obviously better for the Brewers, both in terms of pitching and travel.
  9. Stroman's been just okay his last three starts. A really good one on June 20th (7 scoreless), but 8 earned runs in his last 9 innings. Make him throw pitches. With Alzolay throwing again last night, Cubs pen is still not in great shape. Maybe today we see Freddy avoid the big inning. I like Adames and Brian Anderson to have big days at the plate. Let's get some momentum heading into the Reds series!
  10. I was thinking of 2021 today, where the Brewers lost three in a row to the Reds coming in to the ASB, then immediately swept them coming out of it. That team was 81-52 heading into September. They went 14-17 the rest of the way. After the last two games, I'm just reminding myself how long the season is. Games right before the break always suck me in way too much emotionally because you don't want to leave a bad taste in your mouth heading into a week with no games. I felt so dumped when we had that nightmare series in Pittsburgh in 2018 (and when we lost another 2 of 3 to the Pirates the next year), so pumped when we took 2 of 3 from the Yankees in 2017, and depressed again last year when we got swept by the Giants heading into the break. Point is: none of those stretches (bad or good) really said much about the overall course of the season. I still think the Reds are going to swoon a bit at some point. We're in clear playoff contention. Let's stick within a couple games of a playoff spot over these next four days and just go from there.
  11. Guys like Hendricks and Steele seem like bad matchups for Joey. That "deceptive" stuff turns the aggression in on itself.
  12. It is very hard to win 2 games in a row when you give up 13 runs and do not hit a HR. By all rights we should have lost this one (Throwing Clayton in extras, getting that run on Contreras running to first, being down 4 in the 8th). Stings not to have stolen it because it was right there. Brightside: Williams and Payamps get reset. Cubs bullpen is wrecked. Take care of business the next two days and go beat up on the Reds.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts the 7th. 96 pitches. Soft-tosser. Ross not a lot of trust in his pen. Etc.
  14. Just put an imaginary safe zone above the base already.
  15. Turang beat the throw. Turang did not overslide the bag. Hoerner used Turang's momentum to push him off the bag. Turang is out. I hate the way baseball adjudicates tags applied after the runner initially touches the base. It's a joke, and I would say that if Turang did the same thing Hoerner just did.
  16. Come on, Willy. Gotta keep it in front at least. I don't have a lot of faith in the offense putting up more than 4 again, but man would it be sweet to have two comebacks like that in a row against the Cubs.
  17. He seems to either get completely rocked or just dazzle the Brewers. Though that could be impressionistic memory.
  18. Will Hendricks throw a complete game shutout?
  19. Been playing from behind a lot the last three days.
  20. Honestly, at this point I'm just interested in the Brewers winning as many as possible. The difference between being a third wild card and a third division winner seems very small to me, especially since Great American plays to the Brewers strengths a little bit. Someone out of the Reds, Marlins, Giants, and Phillies are going to drop off. Plus, we've got 9 games coming against the Reds.
  21. Alright, the Reds are good. They will go through a bad stretch eventually (starting pitching is thin, and that ballpark is really going to test it), but I think this is going to be a tight race all the way to the end. I have a hard time seeing the Brewers creating a ton of separation. That said, how good are the Giants? How good are the Marlins? I thought the NL Central was bad, but I will not be at all surprised if the division has two playoff teams.
  22. This is one of those games where there's a big difference between losing by 5 or 6 and losing by 2 or 3. Cubs have had to cover a lot of BP innings lately, and you have to make them earn it, especially when you figure it's going to be tough to put up a big number the next few days against 3 really, really good SP.
  23. The fourth inning was frustrating. So is letting Fulmer lock down 2 1/3.
  24. Give Julio credit. Got dinked and dunked a little in the second, but getting through six is nice.
