  1. Hub has made a good living in front of TV cameras and microphones knowing how not to sound like a fist-shaking old man....he's also in cover his rear end mode right now trying to make sure this moment of honesty doesn't send him into early retirement. When I used to live in Chicago I had 670 The Score on religiously, and Hub consistently came off as a pompous know-it-all...perfect for regional sports radio programming but the more he talks faster he finds a way to get himself in trouble. He is the Gery Woelfel of Chicago.
  2. Kind of figure Thanasis will be on the roster. Also assume Hill is signing a vet minimum contract which means the Bucks will have the TPMLE to bring in a player during the season.
  3. Isn't Yelich from Thousands Oaks (like Riggio). Have him reach out to Riggio to make him feel loved and wanted to be part of the Brewers contingent of California Strong.
  4. #151 on the Gold list. Should be soon Got on the Full season list in 1993 and was offered to move to the Gold package 2 yrs ago.
  5. Miley signing with Astros may be a sign that Keuchel will be signing with Braves or Brewers.
  6. Miley signing with Astros may be a sign that Keuchel will be signing with Braves or Brewers.
  7. Well regarding team salary the Brewers are saving some money by not having a 3rd round pick and earlier trading the comp. pick they had.
  8. Mark and friends bought the Brewers in 2005 for $223M. If he sold it today there would be a "B" in the amount. He also has an investment banking firm which allowed him to buy the Brewers. He has a personal wealth of $700M. He is a great owner and will spend when needed, because it is more than just a business, it is his adult toy. That being said it is still a business and he still wants to make money. Yes he wants the team to be profitable because the alternative is that he (and his partners) would need to contribute capital yearly. However that does not mean the ownership group is looking for a revenue stream from the team. They are demonstrating that they will invest profits back into the organization whether that be players, facilities or owning a minor league affiliate. The owners know there will be a payday down the road when the team is sold but they are not looking to pull money out of the organization with distributions of profits to the owners.
  9. MA has not "pocketed" anything. People have to stop thinking this is still the 1970's. That is not how baseball teams are run and pro-sports leagues specifically approve new owners who can run these organizations without relying on "pocketing" anything from the team finances. Lower payrolls for a few years paid for the new spring training complex among other things.
  10. Because Parra isn't an elite top of the order bat. He doesn't move the needle like Brantley could.
  11. Is Johnson from the Cincy area? Maybe Johnson didn't see eye to eye with the analytics staff. Grasping at straws why he wouldn't be coming back.
  12. Well there goes the Sonny Gray reclamation project.
  13. I suggested a Brantley signing last week in another thread so I am with you Rollie. I wouldn't do it though if it took 4 years. To me it opens up the ability to trade high on Aguilar by moving Braun into a platoon at 1b with Thames. Aguilar could be a big piece (with others) in a trade for a Wheeler, Merrifield or Realmuto.
  14. They really need another contact bat. Moustakas and Schoop weren't guys that fit the profile of what they want long-term. They were what was available at the deadline at a price the Brewers were comfortable with. If the Dodgers hadn't trumped the Brewers offer for Machado, it's very likely neither would have been Brewers. I expect both to be gone and the resources instead directed at someone or someones who better fit the mold of defense and putting the ball in play. Agree with this sentiment. How about we don't bring back Moose or Schoop and instead sign Michael Brantley and Jed Lowrie. Braun would then play mostly 1B in a platoon with Thames or Shaw. Aguilar could then be moved as part of a package for a good player either a SP or Realmuto. Does an Aguilar, Pina, Davies & M.Diplan & T. Lutz get Realmuto? With Shaw being able to play 3B/2b/1B, Lowrie 3B,SS,2B and Perez everywhere, it really would give the team a lot flexibility both day to day and within games. The addition of Brantley would add more "professional" AB's into a lineup that really needs it and create a table setting monster with him, Cain and Yellich at the top. Plus you would have a starting OF of guys who have or can play CF. Should cover good ground.
  15. I don't think I saw this anywhere but with his start in game 3 against Colorado, Braun is now the franchise leader in postseason games at 18. 4 in 2008. 11 in 2011. 3 so far in 2018. The 81-82 Brewer teams played 17 playoff games and without even looking I will say that Yount, Molitor, Cooper & Gantner started all 17.
  16. I forgot about that Born a Brewer video. If the Brewers haven't tweaked that with a few clips of current Brewers and have it ready to play before the game today they will have really missed the boat. Final shot should be Yelich yelling LETS GOOOOO! If anyone from the Brewers is reading this you still have time.
  17. I think Hiura takes the same path that Braun did. Each split time at A+/AA in their first full year after being drafted. The next year Braun opened at AAA was brought up in May. I think Hiura does close to the same. The thing going against Hiura is that the 2019 Brewers should be a good team expecting to compete for the playoffs. Braun had the luxury of a 2007 Brewer team that did not have those expectations so it was easier to just insert the rookie into the everyday lineup.
  18. I just don't see the Brewers making a starting pitching move. I think Stearns & co. are very happy with Burnes, Woody & Peralta as options to augment, Chacin, Anderson, Davies, Nelson(?), Guerra and I think there is a good chance they bring back one of Miley or Gio. I think it is more likely they go after a bullpen arm assuming they do not pick up Soria's option. I realize this topic is for Starting Pitching but the move I would hope is made is to strengthen the everyday lineup with another hitter. The most obvious choice for me is JT Realmuto. An elite player at his position that would upgrade the everyday lineup considerably (no offense to Pina or folk hero Kratz). Prediction: Cubs add Harper, Cards add Machado and the Brewers add Realmuto. What a division that would be. Poor Reds & Pirates.
  19. It wouldn't just be for the one amazing start it would also be because of how he pitched in September and that he used to pitch for Colorado so lots of experience in that ballpark.
  20. Given the way Colorado hits lefty's it would seem at least one if not both of Gio and Miley are not on the roster. Go with all the righty's including the surprise of Lyles.
  21. Bando was a terrible GM but I put more of the blame on ownership and MLB. Small market teams in general and the Brewers in particular were really hamstrung by economics. It took revenue sharing and a new stadium to give the Brewers a chance to compete. Without those Milwaukee would not have a team right now. For those too young to remember 1992 was really a watershed year. Brewers had a very good team powered by great pitching and team speed but no power (weird huh) yet the economics were so bad we could not make a trade to pick up anyone for the stretch run because it was not in the budget. This would have caused a lot more of an uproar but for two things, the Brewers stayed in the hunt and Yount was chasing 3,000 hits which he got in September. Toronto clinched the division the last weekend of the season (and would go on to win the world series). In the offseason Molitor, Dan Plesac and Chris Bosio left in Free Agency and Gantner retired. I was a huge baseball fan growing up but 1992 and the offseason gave me a bad taste in my mouth. At roughly the same time that the Brewers were being eliminated from the playoff chase Brett Favre was making his first start as a Packer QB (9/27/92). In the ensuing offseason the Packers signed the biggest free agent in football history with Reggie White. This 6 mos. or so time frame is when the Packers significantly surpassed the Brewers as the dominant sports team in the state in terms of interest and coverage. The Badgers going to the Rose Bowl after the 1993 season also pushed the Brewers farther down the food chain. The rest of the 90's was just an ugly mess for the Brewers, epitomized by those god awful 90's era uniforms.
  22. Happens every Monday after a Packer home game. Lots of Packer fans from all over the country make the pilgrimage and then fly home the next day. Don't take that as a dis to the Brewers. ecjimg said: Just landed in Milwaukee. Airport had lots of people in Packers gear. WHAT THE???? LOL, welcome to Wisconsin. Packer gear is everyday wear around here.
  23. They should do a bobblehead of Freeway dancing in the bleachers to honor the man, the myth, the legend. 1,000 of the bobbles could be limited edition shirtless alternates. Love this idea. Could also do other superfan bobbles like, the Doorman, and Front Row Amy (but it wouldn't be her head that bobbles).
