  1. This makes sense on a lot of levels. One of which is the management of his innings for the year. I see Hader spending the next 2.5 mos. in the bullpen and then assuming we are not in contention in September we can give him 4-5 starts to finish the season. Ideally this would set him up for sucess next year.
  2. 2017 should be Tim Dillard's last go around and he probably wont last the year on a roster. He might not last the next couple weeks as the Draft adds players to a system with little room. The Brewers should find him an in-front of the camera position on their pre/post game coverage because if they don't another team (maybe minor league) or network will. Let him take Augie/Davey's job for a few years before moving him into the TV booth either as a 3rd voice or Rock's replacement.
  3. Someone is getting called up? Timing is right for avoiding Super 2 and the ball club sure could use a boost (mental, physical, karma) anything to turn around loosing 7 of 9.
  4. Bump 6 more days (at most) before we find out if we get another player or some extra petty cash
  5. Count me as still a supporter of Mederios too. However it is interesting looking at his splits this year. He has a 8.20 ERA and 1.61WHIP as a starter while he has a 2.77 ERA and 1.12 WHIP as a reliever (actually more innings so far in relief). Something about starting just has not agreed with Kodi. Maybe he (not Hader) ends up being the poor mans Andrew Miller. What he wont be is a LOOGY. His splits between LH and RH are pretty even. If your looking for a LOOGY look at Wei-Chung Wang's splits. There is your future LOOGY.
  6. Burnes scheduled to start tonight for Carolina. As Mass hints at, this maybe his last turn in A+ before going to AA.
  7. Corbin Martin at 34 would be great. Not sold on Beck (or Adell) at 9. Would love Pavin Smith but that looks unlikely. Count me in the Alex Faedo at 9 camp.
  8. Santana heating up nicely. Now sporting a .280/.372/.466/.838 line. 18th highest OPS for an OF getting starters PA's. To put into prospective. 5 teams have 2 OF with better OPS's than Santana. 7 Teams have 1 OF with a better OPS. That means 17 teams do not have an OF getting starters PA's with that high of an OPS. If he could add a couple dingers (its been a while since he has hit one) and get the OPS in the .850-.870 range he can bring back a good prospect or two while opening a spot for a more well rounded player (Brinson/Phillips/Cordell).
  9. If the Brewers are not in the playoff race then I agree that Hader should continue to be used as a starter to figure it out. But this thread assumes we are competing in July. At that point I would try Hader in the bullpen (also to manage innings) to see if he can give us a poor mans Andrew Miller. Able to get 4, 5 or 6 important outs a couple times a week. He very well may blow up in that role but it would be worth the shot. Also easing Woodruff into the bigs through the bullpen (where he has the experience) makes some sense too. Especially as has been pointed out the ridiculous cost of acquiring bullpen arms in the middle of the season.
  10. Well, if we are buyers it is clear we would be buying pitching. I don't think Stearns is far enough in the rebuild at this point to flip prospects for a true rental like Yu Darvish. Does a Sonny Gray interest people? Would the Braves be willing to trade Teheran? If so, that is the kind of guy I would be all on board using multiple top prospects to obtain. Add a starter and call up Hader & Woodruff to be used in the bullpen if we are still playing well in July.
  11. Holly cr@p! What a terrible twitter rant by Garza. Complete douche.
  12. Surprised nothing official has been said yet. I would hope that the player being called up is already on a plane to Milwaukee.
  13. While the fan focus has been on trading Braun, I would guess that it is Santana that is the first domino to fall. He has started to hit and if he can get his OPS into the .820-.840 range over the next few weeks I think he will be traded to open up a spot for Brinson/Phillips/Cordell. SF seems like a good destination for Santana as they lack production in the corner OF and they may want to make an early move (by early June) before they are so far behind it wont matter. We got Davies for a Parra a couple years ago. Could we get Andrew Suarez (a 2nd rd LHP from 2015, #10 SF prospect) and Reyes Moronta (a late inning bullpen prospect) for Santana?
  14. Love the Enslow pick at #34 in the PG Mock. Ben Sheets 2.0
  15. Well I assume that Garza will need make 5 or so more starts and continue to be effective before a team would be willing to trade for him. At that point 1/3 of the season is gone which means about $8.66 million would be left to pay for '17. I think the Brewers should be willing to cover 1/2 of the remaining contract in a trade leaving an acquiring team to have Garza for 2/3 of the season at $4.33 and then the option to have him at $5 mil for '18. Given those numbers (and assuming Garza health and effectiveness) I think a team who believes they will be competing for the playoffs in Aug & Sep would be willing to trade a pretty good prospect or two.
  16. The striking thing about the photo of Brinson, Cordell and Phillips is how much shorter Phillips is. Brinson is listed as 6'3" and Cordell at 6'4" (although Brinson appears to be slightly taller than Cordell) and Phillips is listed at 6'0". Phillips height seems to be the one that is fudged. Phillips only comes up to Brinson's nose. There is at least 5-6 inches from the nose to the top of a head. Brinson is probably a true 6'3" - or 6'4" which would make Phillips closer to 5'10".
  17. But we are not looking for salary relief. That has nothing to do with why we may trade him. That is what I don't like. I think the writer should have written it to say that the Brewers were looking for significant prospects in return for Braun and that they don't believe it would require them to eat salary to do so. That is an accurate portrayal of the Brewers stance at this point.
  18. Don't like the way the author painted the brewers stance that we are looking for salary relief. That isn't true. That is a writer from a big city assuming a small market is always looking to shed payroll. Stearns is right to at least initially take the stance that Braun (as is) is worth good prospects in return. It is the other teams stance that the Brewers should carry some of the salary burden to get those prospects. That is the negotiation that will occur. Painting it as if the Brewers are looking to shed salary gives the impression that Stearns will take little in return for getting out of his contract. That is not where the Brewers are with Braun. There is no sense to trade him unless there is a good return.
  19. As much as he wants to be on the west coast, I wonder what his thoughts are on going to an AL team where he could be a full-time DH relatively soon. I think Braun's got the game and approach to be an extremely proficient DH well into his upper 30's. He is a professional hitter ala Edgar Martinez, David Ortiz and Paul Molitor.
  20. Would be cool if the fans at games would chant: FEAR THE BEARD
  21. Best Brewer comparison would be Rob Deer. Like Thames, Deer was a guy who traveled around a bit without much success but then suddenly had a couple good seasons with the Brewers. Brewer fans made Deer out to be much better than he was. Thames story is much better and he has a chance to put up much better seasons than Deer. Thames can become a real national cult story not just a Brewer story. Similar to the attention Cecil Fielder got or Fernando mania. As for nickname I would simply go with: Eric "The Great" Thames If Chris Berman were still doing highlights he no doubt would call him Eric "Punting on the" Thames.
  22. Broxton and Santana have about 1 more month to produce. They are being saved from an early benching by the looming super 2 status of Brinson, Cordell or Phillips.
  23. What about Kyle Wren? Gets on base, steals bases and is a good defender. Already was having trouble getting AB's in AAA with Brinson, Phillips and Cordell. Now with Newenhuis in AAA he'll only get PH's or get demoted to AA. Flip Wren to PITT and hope we can get a Trey Supak type of prospect back.
  24. I was 19 at the time and did not attend (though I was there two days earlier for win #10). I had to work that day as a waiter at Chi-Chi's. Not surprisingly it was slow on Easter Sunday at a Mexican restaurant so I was sent home in the late afternoon. I remember listening to the game in my car on the ride home thinking that the streak was about to end. Rob Deer hit his HR as I was just about to pull in to my driveway. As noted in the article it was an unusually warm April day and I found my large family sitting on the patio listening to the game (which was very unusual). A few minutes later we were all celebrating as we heard Ueckers call of Sveum's HR. I was also working the night of Juan's no hitter a few nights earlier. My customers could not have been happy as I spent most of the last few innings watching the game from the bar instead of with my tables.
  25. Unrealistic of those Dodger fans to think Alveraz or Buehler would not be included in a Braun trade. I get why they want to hang on to Buehler, as he looks like he is going to explode this season and be a top 40 prospect by the end of the year. White seems to be their Erceg. A 2nd rounder last year that has caught the eye of the fan base. I would imagine there would be some gnashing of teeth here if Erceg was traded away at this point too.
