  1. Last year AFL preliminary Rosters were set on Aug. 29th. Its surprising how little talk there has been about who the Brewers may send. Does C.Ray get a 2nd chance at the AFL? Do the Brewers send a Kirby or Bickford to get more innings? Erceg & Hiura seem like solid choices.
  2. Do you think Shaw or Moose could play a little OF (LF)? If they could that gives you a lineup of: 1) Yelich-RF 2) Cain-CF 3) Moose - 3B 4) Aguilar - 1B 5) Shaw - LF 6) Schoop - 2b 7) Pina -C 8) Arcia - SS With Braun, Thames, Perez, as PH candidates later in the game.
  3. What will be interesting is between trades and Peralta and possibly Burnes graduating off the prospect list, we could see a lot of new(old) faces on the list. I would guess guys like Webb and Kirby are not too far off the top 30 and could reappear. Lopez could reappear only to graduate off right away. Demi? KJ?
  4. I wouldn't worry about whether Merrifield blocks Huira. First that is not a problem until May/June of '19 at the earliest. Second, if needed either could be traded for a good return. Merrifield would still have 3 years of control in the winter of '19-'20. I would make the Royals a one stop shop for our position player needs and get Perez too. Merrifield & Perez for Ortiz, Ray, Mederios, Ponce, Notingham & Feliciano (if needed throw in Bickford/Kirby too). As the article states use the fact that the Royals timeframe is a few years away and the fact that the Brewers have an abundance of good not great prospects to get this done.
  5. Considering the Brewers and Dodgers open up the 2nd half against each other, that adds a little intrigue as to whether this gets done at the ASB.
  6. My god Brad Ford is awful. Jon Heyman says Stearns MAY be a candidate and Ford writes a column that Stearns IS a candidate. Ford needs to get out of his mom's basement and see if anyone in the neighborhood wants to play kick ball.
  7. I can see Ray getting bumped to AAA if/when a Phillips/Santana/Broxton gets moved in a trade. Let that Colorado air inflate his numbers and use him as the centerpiece of a JT Realmuto trade in the offseason.
  8. Snell would be awesome but with 4 more years of control after this year the cost would be incredibly huge. I like Hamels as a target.
  9. Going with how the Brewers are drafting skinny/light guys so far I'll guess that the 6th round pick will be: Cory Acton 2B-HS (6'1" - 165lbs)
  10. Um, did Stearns & Co. stumble onto an undervalued trait? 4 of the 5 guys drafted weigh 170lbs or less. It's a little weird.
  11. 5th round so far seems like it is the round that everyone is trying to save some slot money.
  12. Likely means they will save a lot of bonus money to use on "tough sign" guys.
  13. Cubs sure don't agree with MLB prospect list. 6 picks so far. 3 were not even in MLB's top 200. Other three were way over drafted relative to the rankings.
  14. I am a little surprised that Cole Hamels is not listed as a potential trade candidate. Rangers appear to be in danger of being out of contention by late June. Hamels is pitching really well. He has playoff experience. Seems like a perfect addition for a team looking to make a playoff run. Could be this years Verlander (or poor mans version at least). Yes the $20 salary this year (and $20 option for '19) is a sizable chunk but it isn't toxic.
  15. 1hr in over 1,000 AB's is Duane Kuiper territory. You young ones can look him up.
  16. I was a little surprised that Junior didn't make the team out of ST. I think he may end up being the unsung hero of the early season if he can string together a few good 6-7 IP starts. It sure would stabilize things and lessen the load/pressure on the rest of the staff.
  17. In fact, I really feel that it would behoove them to target a near-ready MLB pitching prospect with a higher ceiling Isn't that what we all want? But it doesn't seem like that will be available to us for Santana. Higher Ceiling in A ball sure. Low ceiling in AAA/AA fine. But your not going to get High Ceiling at AAA/AA. Teams are throwing those around like manhole covers. Also regarding Hentges, MLB Pipeline has him as #17 on their list. Was a HS 4th rd pick who missed time because of TJ surgery. Think of him as a Nathan Kirby if Kirby had actually pitched some last year.
  18. Considering what Tampa got for Souza what would people think of a return of Nolan Jones and Sam Hentges from the Indians for Santana? Not the marquee return many of us were initially looking for but I do like both those guys.
  19. I could see a deal like this happening IF the team signs a FA starting pitcher. Of course, it would also strengthen the system for a potential prospects for TOR starter as well. The Padres have some nice pieces in their system I'd love to have. Agreed. Assuming a Cobb/Arrieta/Lynn signing happens I am leaning towards a trade like this which would bolster the prospect list (and fill org needs too LHP and 1B) to use possibly in summer for an acquisition. Acquisitions during the season require prospects as it is teams looking to rebuild (big or small) who are dealing players. A reshuffle the deck type of trade where MLB for MLB players are exchanged is an offseason type trade. Its still possible to acquire a SP for the rotation from a deal centered on Santana (I am looking at you Cleveland) but the longer we go the more likely it will be a Santana for prospects trade.
  20. 1) Braun to Dodgers for Kemp and Buehler or Mitchell White Dodgers do this because Braun > Kemp and Braun's AAV is less than Kemps helping them stay under luxury tax 2) Kemp to Arizona for Greinke Arizona does this to get out of humungous contract (especially after this offseason) and picks up a (very) poor mans JD Martinez. SD is already paying $2.5/yr of Kemps contract, Brewers could add $5/yr to that to make it easier on AZ. With all the salary saved AZ can sign an Arrieta, Cobb or Lynn at a bargin compared to what Greinke was due. Net effect is that Brewers turn Braun into Greinke and White while adding a net $91.5 over 4 years
  21. Stroman was in Phoenix for an Arbitration hearing which also was the genesis of his tweet about baseball being a business. Probably time to cool the jets on this rumor.
  22. Stroman has 3 years of control not 4. This is why I wonder if it would really cost more in terms of prospects to get him over Archer.
  23. Chernoff = Indians Probably refers to the deal where 1 player is holding it up. Sorry to see you go HH19. You were/are the Brewer version of Deep Throat.
