  1. There are about 20 teams that have done literally nothing yet. Cool your jets bro. I know it's more fun when the Brewers are making moves. If last offseason taught me anything, it's patience...to some degree at least. We had to wait until January 25 for major stuff to happen for us, waiting until December 6th is easy in comparison.
  2. 4/72ish would make sense to me. SP market coming into focus a bit more
  3. Woodruff > Weaver by a very wide margin. Kelly > Nottingham, but not by much. Kelly is seriously terrible at hitting right now. Dubon is much more highly rated than the prospect, so that's not a fair comp either. I like the Davies to Weaver comp. That's much better than the Woodruff comp.
  4. Seems like a reasonable return. A relatively highly rated defensive catcher that hasn't hit yet, a young, soft tossing pitcher on a down year, and an interesting flier, and a comp b pick. Definitely not as much value as some seemed to be expecting.
  5. Haven't you heard? It's the NL East that's going to be tough.
  6. I'm expecting some catching depth heading to Arizona in this. Possibly Kelly+.
  7. Some of the "insider" tweets are making it sound like Conforto, Nimmo and Rosario are coveted by the Marlins and the Mets aren't inclined to give them up. Really? Two extremely average outfielders and a good defense no stick (albeit young) middle infielder? Does that mean all we need to do to get Realmuto is offer up Arcia? Makes me wish we would have hung onto Brett Phillips. In fairness, Nimmo and Conforto are both pretty good hitters and young with upside. Nimmo in particular had a very good season...over 400 OBP. That said, both are corner outfielders and Nimmo is a poor defender even in the corner. I fail to see how any of those hitters is an elite position player that they are rumored to be targeting. I also fail to see how either of them is more valuable than Peralta or Woodruff.
  8. The 4th-8th prospect in a bad system isn't a good prospect. I don't think it's a bad system, the better upside guys are in the lower minors is all. Hopefully many take a step forward. Would also be nice if the Grisham's and Erceg's of the world finally hit at a level.
  9. Contracts do matter though. How much is one year of Goldschmidt worth? Certainly not any of our big 3 pitchers or Hiura. Not even close to that. Each of those pitchers and Hiura is more valuable than any prospect outside the top 50...and with relative ease. The Dbacks are likely to be a bit of a tweener team as of right now, and will probably be into a rebuild when Goldschmidt leaves for greener pastures. The could turn that rebuild into more of a retool if they can get out of a big chunk of Greinke's contract and get a handful of young talented players for both. Otherwise they could basically salary dump as much of Greinke as they can for very little prospect return and trade Goldschmidt separately for a fringe top 50 guy and some modest add in pieces...that's probably best case scenario for him. I like my trade better than option B if I'm the Dbacks.
  10. The Diamondbacks say no pretty easily. I think you might be right. Is it moreso the $ issue or talent? I feel like $ is the bigger issue than talent. They'd still be on the hook to pay Greinke $20M/year plus deferrals. We may have to kick in another $30 million or so to get the money closer to accurate, or kick in a little bit and upgrade Broxton or Stokes to Ray.
  11. I don't know that I'd want to give THAT much to get one year of Goldschmidt and the surefire comp pick we'd also get. Reminder that 1 year costs $14.5 million. A great deal for Goldschmidt...but that's a lot of money for the Brewers.
  12. Just for fun, I'll try. Brewers get Greinke Goldschmidt $ so we are responsible for $15M/year and none of the deferrals Diamondsbacks get Aguilar Brown Stokes Supak Broxton Who says no?
  13. All those options, tough to imagine someone giving up the massive asking price for realmuto
  14. It's going to be fun when Realmuto isn't traded and opens the year with a 720ish OPS over the first few months...and offers significantly decrease at the deadline. Foolish asking prices like the one reportedly on Realmuto generally bother me, so I'll enjoy it coming back to bite the Marlins.
  15. This could make for a very fun winter meetings next week. This obviously helps set the market for FA pitchers, but also to some degree the trade market. And it could definitely add a bit of desperation as teams don't want to miss out on the best guys. This offseason has definitely been more fun thusfar than last offseason.
  16. Agreed on all points. They could sign Harper, or get Corbin and probably 2 solid relievers for the same amount of money per year for the next 2-3 years. Easy decision in my opinion, their roster is super solid...so if they can make good relief signings they could be a force again.
  17. I'd be a bit shocked if he went anywhere besides Philly. I think it would be fun if Philly got Harper, MM, and Corbin in one offseason. Saving up all that money and using it all in one offseason. Plus taking on Segura, we could be looking at $800M of new commitments for 1 team. As fun as that is, this why the Brewers struggle to compete...
  18. I'm a big proponent of balance in your lineup. You really need at least 2 LH bats, and the Cards only have Carpenter. From that perspective, adding Goldschmidt is a bit weird as he's yet another RH bat. I think it would be a better use of the Cards resources to try and trade for someone like Thames. Them acquiring Thames is wildly unlikely for so many reasons, but the primary reason is the balance. There are plenty of guys similar enough to Thames in the league though. The Cards could bat Carpenter 2nd and Thames clone 5th or 6th against RH SP...those 2 guys would rarely face a lefty until late in the game. They have enough depth to let Thames clone only play against RH SP and move Carpenter or someone else to 1st against LH SP. If the Cards make a FA splash of Goldschmidt plus a LH bat, and the Reds acquire some high-end SP as they are rumored to be targeting(coupled with DJ making their rotation better as is)...the NL central could be ridiculous. The Cubs would probably still have the best roster, the Brewers made the NLCS, and the Pirates roster really isn't that bad. To end my rant, there aren't many teams in the NL that really aren't trying to win now or are positioned to win very soon. The Marlins, maybe the Giants depending if MB is traded...who else? The Padres have a ridiculous farm system with many top guys in AAA or at the MLB level already, and they are reportedly looking at win now moves. They could be good this year. The Pirates made the move for Archer last deadline and really aren't losing much to FA. They tend to be solid/scrappy, not exactly what you want to be but for sure not a tanking team. The Reds are positioned to be good as soon as they get some SP. The Mets appear to be trying to bounce back with recent moves. The Nationals still have a very good roster even without Harper.
  19. King Felix has been going downhill and has had some injury issues. He's likely going to ride out that final year unless the Mariners eat $22 or more million of the $27 or give up elite prospects, which as you note, they probably won't be inclined to do with a 1 year commitment. Agree on Felix. The Mariners seem to generally be ok with taking on contracts that expire in the next 2 years, and clear up future payroll beyond 2020. That makes me think dumping the Felix contract is fairly meaningless to them. Side note regarding future payroll, I wonder if they are trying to trim payroll to make a run at Trout after the 2020 season.
  20. I'm seeing an awful lot of smoke about a Goldschmidt to the Cardinals trade. Is anyone else seeing similar? I wonder what the Cardinals would do with Carpenter if this happens. He's a pretty bad 3b and 2b defensively...and that's one less spot for Jose Martinez to play. They could have a truly dreadful defense next year if this trade happens.
  21. I'd strongly argue both our guys are better baseball players than the respective players traded. Arcia's contract situation is equal to Crawfords while Thames contract is far superior to Santana's.
  22. I suspect whoever opens the season at 2b will also be capable of playing SS. Also factor in Dubon and Perez as options. We aren't in an Arcia or bust situation no matter what we do with 2b.
  23. Oh I disagree. We would have a very poor offense with this lineup, especially with Arcia at SS. When Arcia's right as he was down the stretch and in the playoffs and the last 4 months of 2017, he's an offensive asset, not a liability. Hard to predict what your going to get but I'll take my chances with his talent that he's going to pick up where he left off. Agree with Briggs here. Arcia is still very young and made significant strides towards the end of the season. Here's hoping he picks up where he left off.
  24. I didn't realize the full deal, the Phillies getting those 2 relievers really tips the scales in their favor. The Mariners must really love Crawford. Neither reliever is really anything special. Solid/unspectacular MLB caliber arms.
