  1. Quintana has been much better against the Brewers than Hendricks, though both have been good. I personally thought the matchup today was much better than yesterday. Anderson has had good games against the Cubs, and I was nervous about Chacin against all those LH bats. Couple that with Quintana being better against us than Hendricks. Here's hoping we can win today and keep it at 1 game for now.
  2. Probably a good call, especially if they lose. I just saw they lost both yesterday. That right there...is their dagger.
  3. Everything I've read shows a general uptick in stuff from Webb this year. I also know command was a pretty big issue for him most of his minor league career, so maybe he's harnessed it better? Just general guesses, I'm sure someone like And That could weigh in better.
  4. Brewers win today, 1 back from the Cubs with 15 and 17 games to play. The Cubs do still have a couple tough series. Even at 3 I wouldn't say I've lost hope...but man 1 game back is so much better than 3 back.
  5. I think it's virtually must-win if we are going to get the division. 3 back with 15 and 17 games remaining is so much different than 1 back. I would guess the odds change by 30-40% depending on the outcome of this game. We definitely can't win every game, and unfortunately yesterday was a bit of a clunker. I'd like to see a lineup of Cain, Yelich, Moose, Braun, Shaw, Schoop, Thames, Pina, P today. I could also understand Arcia for Schoop, sliding Thames and Pina forward a spot, or Arcia for Thames with Shaw playing 1b to keep the good defense in there. Nice that we should have all of our best relievers available today. I would guess Hader is only available for 1 inning today but otherwise fully available.
  6. Braun is 1 for 12 against Strop career. Aguilar is 0 for 2 with a walk. May want to use a lefty for one or both of them.
  7. I can understand not using Moose there. We should have opportunities to get those lefties an AB in the 9th inning...so long as we don't have a 1-2-3 inning
  8. Yeah Maddon generally managed that well. CC won't PH Moose/Thames/Granderson for the top of the order...use his best lefty against the bottom and strop or another RH against the top. Smart move, i believe there's a saying about a broken clock being right twice a day...
  9. I would have used saladino here, let's see what happens.
  10. Still 3 innings left. Hopefully we can at least make Quintana work a bit next inning so we get their bullpen for 2 innings. We'll surely see their primo guys...definitely Strop for an inning, but better chance against them than Quintana. That's what we have to hope for.
  11. That was not a strike. Pitch trax looked off, he caught that so far inside. Embarrassing by the umpire
  12. I'm a touch concerned that as soon as we adjust, he'll shift tactics and throw more offspeed. That's what Lester did yesterday. We'll see.
  13. Does anyone know what the wind is like tonight? Blowing in again?
  14. Fair point. I could be a nats fan for a day...I'm sure I'm not the only one.
  15. It is, I'm a bit surprised they went Shaw over Moose.
  16. I wouldn't complain about playing at Wrigley. I could also see the Brewers generally uninterested in helping the Cubs out after their scheduling shenanigans the last couple years...and not offering Miller Park for that reason. I'm curious how it plays out.
  17. We've faced an incredibly long stretch of almost all LHP. Shaw's gonna see some 2B again soon when the righties are back. I'm not sure we're gonna have a lefty the rest of the season until maybe Detroit after today. Maybe Gomber against the Cards. There are gonna be some Mous/Schoop/Shaw/Thames infields over the next few weeks. I'm excited to see some RHP, I think we match up better. Perez can get himself re-glued to the bench. I've beat this to death at this point, but it gives us an opportunity to give Aguilar some consecutive rest days.
  18. It would be pretty tough to stand for their away from the plate than Braun. Well I'm pretty much stands with his heels outside of the back of the batter's box. Roco is right. Braun swings a bigger bat than most(35 inch I believe) and has always stood way off the plate. I'm not sure what Aguilar is thinking by shifting around in the box(clearly it isn't working)...Braun is different, he knows exactly what he's doing and is well aware of what he can and can't cover.
  19. The numbers may generally look OK, but on the eye test he does not look good at the plate right now. He's swinging at bad pitches(especially inside FB) and missing hittable pitches. The guy just looks tired. By no means do I want to replace him long term, but I think a couple days off in a row to recover a bit could be very helpful down the stretch. With the offday Thursday, I'd be very surprised if Aguilar plays Wednesday. I personally would lobby to give him Friday off as well, allowing 3 straight recovery days. And he is halfway to the visitors dugout when he is at the plate... I haven't noticed this until recently, but anything on the outside corner and he has to physically lunge at it to reach it. I'm talking about strikes on the outside corner, not outside pitches. Coles has to notice this, right? You'd think so. I think he really likes the inside pitch, and pitchers start throwing 4 inches off the plate inside...so he moves back in the box hoping for the same pitch and the go outside. What he needs to do is not swing at the pitch inside of the plate. Not rocket science.
  20. Would make more sense to play it at Wrigley to be honest. I'm very curious how this turns out. The idea of their 2nd ever Friday night game for competitive reasons is pure junk.
  21. Looks like the Cubs are up to more scheduling shenanigans. If you look through that guys twitter feed over the last 3-4 hours, someone really needs to get Maddon a lifetime supply of tissues for all his crying.
