  1. The numbers may generally look OK, but on the eye test he does not look good at the plate right now. He's swinging at bad pitches(especially inside FB) and missing hittable pitches. The guy just looks tired. By no means do I want to replace him long term, but I think a couple days off in a row to recover a bit could be very helpful down the stretch. With the offday Thursday, I'd be very surprised if Aguilar plays Wednesday. I personally would lobby to give him Friday off as well, allowing 3 straight recovery days.
  2. RF is kinda huge in Wrigley, the added speed could be very helpful...that's why I went Broxton. I'm not sure what metrics say, but Perez is not a good outfielder. He's ok. Better than Thames, maybe slightly better than Santana. Well behind Braun and Yelich...Cain and Broxton are obviously elite defenders out there. I can understand Perez for the added offense. He didn't look great against Quintana last time, a very silly strikeout and a bloop single. I can also understand saving Broxton and his speed for late game.
  3. The Cardinals could very easily get that 2nd wildcard, with the Dodgers missing altogether. I think it's a virtual lock at this point that both the Brewers and Cubs make the playoffs(and the Braves). From there it's the Rockies, Cards, and Dodgers for the last 2 spots...with the Dodgers 1.5 and 2 games back from the other 2 teams. The Dbacks could climb back, but they really need a 4 of 5 type stretch to get back in the conversation.
  4. All teams do it a bit, results are unpredictable though. The way teams will use position players or leave struggling pitchers in to eat innings despite getting shelled makes those moot to some degree.
  5. I know many think the Dodgers end up getting the West. I don't though, the Rockies have won 7 of 9 and are a pretty well built team. They do have a really tough road trip left, but then they pretty much get to coast the final week with home games against philly and the nats...both of which will be ready to pack it in by then. We'll see though. NL is definitely far more exciting than the AL. The only drama over there is AL West for the division and the Yankees trying to hold on to the 1st wildcard spot. The 5 playoff teams have been firmly established for about a month now.
  6. Of the two remaining, today is definitely the tougher matchup. If the Brewers think Braun can handle 1b, I like the idea of playing Broxton in RF today and Braun at 1B. I also think it's time to move Aguilar into the 5 or 6 spot. I doubt we do either of those things. I would anticipate roughly the same lineup as yesterday. Cain, Yelich, Aguilar, Braun, Schoop, Moose/Shaw, Kratz/Pina, Arcia, P. Probably go with Pina and Moose of those 2. Also outside chance Perez starts for Schoop at 2b.
  7. I feel like Philly is basically toast at this point. Probably good to keep them on this thread for a bit longer, but I suspect they'd need to go something like 17-3 over their last 20 to make the playoffs at this point...that or the entire field plays sub-500 ball and they go like 14-6. It's simply not likely. I think for the game above, I'd prefer Colorado beat Arizona. I don't want the Rockies to sweep and straight eliminate them as I want the Dbacks to still think they have a chance when they play the Cubs next week, but I'm warming to the idea of the Rockies simply taking the division.
  8. Nah Hader is done today. I wouldn't rule out him being available for an inning on Wednesday.
  9. Lol at Maddon. And I generally agree with those annoyed with AGuilar. I've been saying for a couple weeks now that he doesn't look right. I generally agree that he could use a few consecutive days off, I think he's whooped. I hope when the string of lefties ends that Thames gets a bunch of time starting at 1b. I could get on board with 3 or 4 straight days of nothing for Aguilar.
  10. Kratz hit an RBI double to RF. Moose was sent and stopped halfway and went back to 3rd. Lester is coming out injured
  11. What is the highest exit velocity on a cubs batted ball today? The Brewers probably have the top 5 or 6 in the game...stupid lucky cubs.
  12. Schoop and Moustakas are by far superior defenders to Villar and Schoop. You can see it in the double plays they have been turning, and additionally with Moustakas on his diving stabs at 3b and his absolute cannon of an arm.
  13. That one from Arcia is probably out of Miller Park...I'm not entirely sure 2 is going to be enough here.
  14. Brewers hitters need to stop trying to hit bombs into the wind. Line drives, string hits together...that's how we're gonna score.
  15. I thought he had it initially, the replay showed he got it up on the trademark. Probably wouldn't have been out of miller park either...
  16. Looks like if Murphy goes 3 for 4 with 4 rbis and a dinger, it's your fault for jinxing the situation... That seems fair, so far ok. Don't love the 7 pitch at bat but at least he got out.
  17. That there's 36 players in the locker room or that they don't all fit? A baseball roster is 25 men for the vast majority of the season. Really no reason to make a clubhouse bigger for 4 weeks of the season. I'm sure they've used all the space they realistically can in Wrigley. https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160411/wrigleyville/wrigley-field-visitors-clubhouse-worst-majors-can-wait-til-next-year Seems legit doesn't it? It would be one thing if the home club house was comparable, or if it was comparable to other visitor clubhouses...but it isn't. It's way way behind. The home clubhouse must be 3-4 times the size of the visitor club house. It's seriously bush league, it's an intentional built in advantage...by a team with virtually unlimited resources that could easily and quickly have remodeled that thing anytime over the last 5 years. They just did the home one in 2016, what are they waiting for with the visitors one? I get that normally there aren't 36 guys needing lockers, but locker space isn't the only factor.
