  1. Arcia actually has solid career numbers against Montgomery, Perez does not. I also found that Shaw has very good career numbers against Montgomery, so maybe he starts over Moose at 3b or Schoop at 2b?
  2. Only 11 pitchers? I'm a bit surprised by that. I know Broxton would be fantastic to have in the playoffs, I just don't see it happening. You probably replace Broxton with a pitcher...probably Peralta or Williams in the bullpen. Also I'm not entirely convinced you go Granderson over Thames. We'll see I guess. This is probably pretty close for the first round though. I imagine any wildcard game is going to have 2-3 less pitchers with more position players. Probably Saladino and Thames would be locks, possibly even a 3rd catcher that you hope to never use just so you can safely pinch run for a catcher. Worst comes to worst, Kratz can pitch in extras...
  3. Cain, Yelich, Aguilar, Braun, Schoop, Moustakas, Pina, Arcia...that's my guess for the lineup
  4. Hader needs to make the changeup a priority this offseason if he's going to move to the rotation, similar to how he made his slider a priority. He probably should make the changeup a priority regardless, even if the plan is to stay in the bullpen. Would make him that much tougher against RH bats...I mean, is 493 OPS against RH bats really good enough?
  5. I'd add Burnes and Barnes, likely before Williams. For his career, Barnes has a .651 OPS-A against the Cubs. Can bet that Jennings and Cedeno will be facing lefties at some point. I think the order is Miley, Burnes, one of Jennings/Cedeno, Barnes, other of Jennings/Cedeno, Jeffress/Soria/Knebel. But it's also the Cubs - it's all hands on deck. I keep forgetting about burnes and I don't know why. He's right up there with jeffress and soria. Interesting note on barnes...
  6. Shhhh, you can't approach cubs fans with facts. That would be logical...
  7. Good day to be a brewers fan. Gotta keep it rolling though. Pedal down all the way to the finish line.
  8. I still think Hader is unavailable, along with Woodruff and Guerra. I also suspect we avoid using Knebel. In my opinion, prime relievers will likely be Jeffress and Soria...also jennings, cedeno, and williams if there's a short start...and also in the event of a 1-3 run deficit. I fully expect Hader and Knebel to be available Wednesday, assuming neither pitch tomorrow.
  9. How impressive it is for a city/metro area umpteen times larger than Milwaukee to have its fans travel 90 minutes. Especially when you consider how many are near the border and can travel half that...
  10. I appreciated the post by harvey's WB, great post. Didn't want to quote as it was long. Hamels comments are white noise. He comes off ignorant. He said something rude and is becoming a hero on cub fan board, naturally, considering they are generally terrible human beings. I personally sold my tickets to the game today, primarily because I simply don't have any interest in being around that class of human. I feel bad for any parent who may not know better and brings their kids to experience such a thing. The worst part is, the pride they show in their behavior...which is basically the degradation of society. No thanks, I'll sell my seats and get more joy out of watching at home or the local bar.
  11. Let me guess, they think that high ball 4 to Braun was a strike. Regardless, BB to load the bases, BB to tie the game in the 8th, then BB, HBP, HBP, FC FTL in the 9th is a baaad way to lose. If that is their bullpen plan for the stretch run, this is going to be a fun September. Cubs beat writer using data to make his whiny followers look dumb.
  12. On a side note, I think the entire Cubs board needs the worlds largest delivery of tissues...
  13. I just now read through the entire in game thread. I can understand being annoyed with certain decisions or certain things that happen, like the Cain bobble or Hader giving up the HR, but the sky isn't falling every time it happens. It truly gets annoying. All that said, awesome win. I generally liked CC's decision making, no decision he made was glaringly terrible. I understand going 3 with hader considering Soria wasn't available. I also could have understand being more careful with Rizzo and pitching to Bryant, who hasn't been very good since his return. I also thought it was weird that he had Granderson bunt with 2 strikes. I suspect CC and Granderson talked and Granderson told him he felt confident he could get the bunt down. It was all made tougher in that CC knows very little about what Granderson is good or bad at. That last thing I thought was weird was not having Broxton run for Granderson in the 8th after he walked, but that one clearly worked out. I love that we fought back, well played on both sides until Bryant screwed it up in the 9th trying to be the hero
  14. As noted, the 33 pitches for Soria may make him unavailable. I personally think he will be available if needed but not the first choice in a tight game. Figure Jeffress/Hader/maybe Knebel in a close game with a lead and Barnes/Williams/Jennings if we have a 2-3 run deficit in late innings...GG or Lyles if we are getting creamed. I suspect GG is available to piggyback Davies if he falters early today. It was nice to see Knebel looks generally sharp yesterday. Good FB command, blowing it by hitters.
  15. Dont forget about Josh Hader...
  16. I think you really need to wait until this 3 game series ends before definitively saying anything about the division. If the Brewers sweep here, It's a 2 game lead with just over 20 games left. Winning 2 of 3 and a 4 game cubs lead pretty much leaves us in a similar situation to what we are now hoping for a sweep in Wrigley. Anything worse pretty much slams the door and we are hoping for wildcard.
  17. Can't say enough about what Woodruff did today. Really brought a steadiness to the game. Of course the 2 big hits were nice as well. Hopefully we can carry the momentum into this HUGE series coming up. Probably need all 3 to keep the dream of catching Chicago alive.
  18. I think CC's mistake was not having Jennings in there to face Harper, that or not using Hader if he was available. Soria clearly lost it and shouldn't have been out there that long. Being efficient at this point is not as important as being effective. It's September, all hands on deck. I'm not sure if CC feels he owes it to these guys to give them a chance to get out of their messes or what his friggin deal is, but he needs quicker hooks on these guys.
  19. CC said he may be used out of the pen. So he is going to pitch 10-12 innings? Gotta have patience on this one. Right now gg is not right. I am assuming he'll throw a bullpen and see if dj can help. Probably back to the rotation from there. It would be huge if he got back to 1st half form for the playoffs...
  20. Adam I agree. Its crazy to say he's in dfa territory. And he definitely could heat up and earn a playoff spot. I do think we move on from thames after the season though. Probably via trade. 1b belongs to aguilar
  21. Start Burnes and let the opponents load their lineup with lefty bats, then bring in Gio in the 3rd or 4th innings. This isn't a bad strategy actually, though I'd probably bring in Hader behind him for 2-3 innings and truly devastate those lefties. I think with the arms we have, Burnes is more valuable in his current role though. We should be situated with a lot of guys that can throw 2-3 innings and only a few guys that need to throw more than that. We should be stressing quality innings moreso than being efficient in covering innings. CC should basically shift to Joe Maddon style of bullpenning given our situation.
