  1. Are you saying Schoop is a marginal upgrade over Villar/Perez? Gotta disagree with you on that. He is way better. Of course Schoop is better than those guys, but how much better given the cost? Better enough to give up the package we gave up? I don't think so.
  2. See my post: I think having a loaded bench when you double switch and pinch hit a lot in the NL is probably an undervalued commodity that Stearns is trying to tap into. This team is a top defensive team thanks to the staff, analytics, and transactions to acquire some of these guys. Again, they know what they’re doing if they think they can make it work in the context of the defense. I definitely can see the value in using Schoop in a double switch over Villar or Perez for a 3-4 inning 2 at bat stint. That's a lot to pay for that upgrade. I sure hope they know what their doing and I hopeful that it works out, but as noted above I'm a bit skeptical. On the surface it looks like we paid a lot for a very marginal upgrade.
  3. I really don't like this move. The only way it makes some sense is if Schoop can play SS at a high level. I wouldn't be happy with a Machado situation, he doesn't hit like Machado where you can justify it. Moustakas is a plus defender at 3b but Shaw will likely be a below average 2b at best and Schoop is a question mark. If Arcia still gets a ton of playing time, I'll find this trade incredibly dumb as we'll have 2 good players on the bench every day and 2 bad hitters in the lineup everyday. Our pitching has relied heavily on good defense to keep runs off the board, it seems like we are throwing that strategy to the wind to a large degree in the name of offense. I'm hopefully, but also very skeptical.
  4. Brinson played for the Brewers briefly, but yes none of them spent substantial time with the MLB club.
  5. Guys on the O's board say that Schoop can play 3b and 2b and possibly SS. Maybe he takes over the Perez role but playing far more often?
  6. I didn't know where else to put this, but man alive are the Mets terrible. That front office is useless.
  7. What a package that is, hard pass. To match that, we probalby have to include Burnes or Hiura and at least 2 good prospects.
  8. Note the source is pure trash, but it's something...
  9. Sure, but do you think they are going to give up a kings ransom to win a bidding war? Just because they have the most ammo doesn't mean they are going to waste it...
  10. If we are considering something like Machado deal to be a blockbuster, they are rare and as such it would be unlikely that two teams would make such a trade in such a short time frame. I don't think it has much to do with a GM being gun shy. Having said that, I could see a GM being wary if a guy showed up with some unreported injury. If the prospects you scouted and asked for underperform that's not really on the other team....that's on you. The Brewers made a trade for a white sox reliever in back to back years, and Cordell certainly did not pan out for the White Sox. Those aren't exactly blockbusters, but in fairness how many teams make more than 1 blockbuster trade with 2 different teams in a 7 month window?
  11. I could not agree with this more. Agreed, there aren't many scenarios where I'd be pissed at what we gave up for Archer if the trade didn't include those 2 guys.
  12. I'm glad the Cubs didn't get him, I think they wanted him and could use him with Happ playing more infield due to Bryant's injury. Unfortunately for the Cubs, their #1 prospect is probably less of a prospect than the Indians #8.
  13. I tend to agree, this seems like a weird move for the Cardinals
  14. I don't have a strong opinion on Gio. He's been very good, contract year, decent ERA/FIP, almost 6 innings per start. Also I tend to wonder if DJ likes Gio and thinks he has a mechanical tweak in mind that can help him down the stretch. All that said, I feel he's overachieved the last year+ based on his stuff and is due some regression.
  15. I would tend to be cautious on Davies as well, just because he's had so many setbacks with this injury and he generally wasn't sharp pre-injury.
  16. Brewers send Hiura + Peralta + Gatewood to the Giants for Bumgarner + Hundley
  17. I have this odd feeling that Harper will be a Yankee later today, which would be extremely frustrating...and my guess is the Yankees will give up next to nothing for Harper because that's how it always works with that franchise.
  18. Look where the catcher sets up and where the ball ends up, it's the latter moreso. Effectively wild is I believe what they call it...
  19. The bullpen should be in decent shape, no excuse not to have someone at least up in the pen now. Can't give this game away trying to squeeze an extra inning out of Peralta.
  20. Is that what this whole technical difficulties thing is?
  21. I don't think anyone wants to trade him for sake of trading him, but if he was the guy leading a package for realmuto or degrom...you'd be insane not to listen. Everyone except Mike Trout is available for the right price.
  22. Peralta's command starting to sharpen a bit, put a couple curves in good spots.
  23. Of course not every pitch of his sequence was terrible, but Braun not even just putting a hanging slider in play was a killer. It isn't exactly easy to hit a fly ball when you want, even for a pro. But yeah that slider to Braun...could have knocked Maeda out early.
