  1. Peralta needs to find a way to sharpen up his command at the outset of a game, he's very wild...not hitting his spots at all.
  2. It's really too bad they didn't get a hit, but they generally had good at bats. Can't get a hit every time. The main disappointment for me is Braun missing that hanging slider down the middle. Otherwise they had good atbats, made Maeda work. Get him out in the 5th inning or better
  3. It's really disappointing we didn't get more there. It felt like we should have scored 3 or 4. And Braun, man alive as recently as 2 years ago it's 5-0 probably 80+% of the time on that hanging slider down the middle. Every hitter dreams about getting that pitch, doesn't happen often at this level...and Braun missed it. At least we got a lead, and Maeda had to throw a lot of pitches...look at the positives.
  4. I love that you keep using the GM of the large market team that is currently 74-33 as an example of foolishness. He recently walked away from the Tigers, leaving that situation a disaster. They haven't been good since he left and won't be good for at least a couple years thanks to him. It's easy to hide some levels of foolishness behind a skyhigh payroll. And not that the Red Sox aren't a good team, but they play in the AL and specifically the AL east. It's kinda like the Patriots...sure they are a very good team but it really helps their record basically getting 6 free lay-up wins a year for 15 years.
  5. Add a couple of those names to Hiura and Burnes and they say yes to that deal. If you were to add one of those big names, I think you have to subtract one or two of the above names at least. The idea of trading 7 good prospects including your top 2 for 2+ years of 1 player not named Mike Trout is pure insanity. I don't even think Dombrowski is that foolish.
  6. I'm much more open to the Archer trade than the Realmuto trade. The Archer trade is selling low on a couple spare parts, the big prize for them being Peralta. They are relatively weak in the outfield and could value Houser as a good piece for their radical pitching experiment. The Realmuto trade offers 5 very good prospects, all between 50 and 55 with varying upsides. I could see both sides not liking this. Miami isn't getting a headliner, and the Brewers are giving up a ton of depth and solid prospects for 1 player.
  7. It may go down (I'm guessing Shaw/Mous only start 30-35 2B games), but my counterpoint: This front office clearly knows what it's doing with its defense. Shifts, scouting, etc. Maybe it goes down, but they have to know what they're doing to think that it's not going to go down too much or at all...or at the very least the offense far outweighs it. I generally have confidence in the decision the front office has made here, just worth noting as a counter point. I wasn't trying to argue against the move. I see both sides and don't really have a strong opinion on whether this was a wise move or not. I'm generally just hopeful.
  8. I wonder if this changes significantly with the Shaw for natural 2b positional swap...
  9. This guy called the exact deal about 3 hours before anyone else. Lopez + Phillips for Moose. Phillips is a logical fit, but Lopez is far less logical and that leads me to think his info was legit in this case. My guess would be he has a buddy working in the front office somewhere. That said, I'm sure the Brewers have caught wind and intend to plug that leak very quickly.
  10. Putting myself in their shoes, they absolutely need to either extend him or trade him. They'd be extending him at peak value, probably looking at Buster Posey money or close to it. Posey was extended at age 25 after his MVP season and got 8/160 with 3 years of arbitration bought out. You figure a Realmuto deal is probably close to $20m per right now over 5 or 6 years...with 2 years of arbitration bought out. If the Marlins want to and are able to do that, good for them. Otherwise, trading him now makes sense. I generally disagree with this idea that so many more teams will be interested in the offseason. Teams generally don't get desperate in the offseason with no pressure to continue a postseason run. And rebuilding teams aren't interested in Realmuto now and won't be in November. No one thinks they're rebuilding in November. Okay maybe 5 teams or so do but the other 25 are going into the following season with the mindset that they at least have a chance as opposed to it being whittled down to 12-15 teams in July that still consider themselves contenders. As recently as 3 years ago I would have completely agreed, but doing a Cubs/Astros style tanking has become a thing lately. The O's, Blue Jays, Tigers, White Sox, Royals, Rangers, Mets, Marlins, Padres, and maybe the Reds are not in a position to win all that soon. Sure the overall market may be bigger, but there are free agents that can be targeted...and generally there is no desperation in the offseason. Right now, there's an outside chance they get a desperation overpay from the Nats. Whatever they offer will probably be better than anything anyone else offers in November. It really depends on what the offer is, but if the Nats get to a point where Robles is included...even if they don't offer much for good secondary pieces...they probably should do it. Same with the Brewers and Hiura or a Peralta + Burnes led package.
  11. I don't know a ton about Gausman, but my understanding is he has generally underachieved from a results standpoint based on his stuff. Targeting him only makes sense if we are very confident we can harness his stuff better than the O's.
  12. A large part of that is Arcia. My impression is that we are heavily relying on Arcia for the most difficult defensive position on any given pitch. He's playing in shallow right against lhb and his natural position against rhb. When Villar plays, he handles the shallow right assignment sometimes...whereas going forward I expect it to be only Arcia. It's definitely a new efficiency if it works out. To your point though, I generally agree. I get the impression that Hiura is a better defender(aside from arm strength) than Shaw or Moustakas already. On a side note, Arcia would have immense value if he could simply hit for 700 ops given how heavily we are relying on him defensively. He's directly responsible for getting a significantly better bat in the lineup on a daily basis(assuming everything goes according to plan). Shallow right is always played by the 2B or 3B. Arcia plays right near the base when they shift against lefties. You may want to double-check that, I'll do the same as I'm not 100% certain we are shifting that way...but I'm pretty sure Arcia has been playing that spot against lefties when we make the dramatic shift.

  14. Why in the world would Realmuto be worth less now than back in March? He was simply a very good catcher then, now he's the best in the game. He's still under control for 3 pennant races. Losing him the first few months of this season doesn't nullify his breakout. Realmuto is worth Hiura+. Or Robles+. Doesn't mean we'll pay it or that the Nationals will, but anyone who is offering the Marlins less now than they were in the offseason, including us or Washington, simply isn't going to get him. There are plenty of teams in the offseason who will make a strong offer for 2 years of Realmuto if they decide to wait. I'm referring to Archer, no way is our offer for Archer now as much as it was in the offseason...given his struggles and injuries. Realmuto's value absolutely has gone up and is probably at peak. If he hits 700 OPS the rest of the way or suffers a serious injury, his value plummets.
  15. They can ask for whatever they want, they still have 2 full years of control of him past this year. If the Nats fall out of the bidding, they can just wait til the offseason when they can still ask for a king's ransom and more teams will be willing to shuffle their rosters to do it. As long as they don't wait til the trading deadline of his final year (*cough* Orioles), they're going to get a massive package for the guy. Or Realmuto gets hurt, or he has a rough second half? Waiting is a gamble...look what happened with Archer. No way are the Brewers offering as much value now as they did in the offseason...
  16. Where are you seeing that? That's a pretty steep ask for a SP with 1+ years of control having his best year.
  17. I could see targeting a catcher and SP only. No other position makes sense barring multiple moves. I'm not sure what options available would be an improvement at catcher besides Realmuto and maybe Ramos. There seem to be a good number of SP options, but very few rentals...and the team control seemingly is convincing teams to try and gouge. There is also the potential to trade someone like Santana or Broxton in a selling move for prospects. Not sure what that would net, just a thought. I doubt Broxton gets moved as his value as a defensive replacement/speed guy in September is probably more valuable than the middling prospect we'd get. Santana is possible though, but we'd certainly be selling low on him.
  18. I think it also goes to show just how progressive this staff/f.o. is regarding 'breaking the traditional mold' in a lot of ways. I said in another thread that the Padres seem to think they're smarter than everyone else in the league but aren't.... I won't go so far as to claim that the Brewers are, but signs suggest they're trying things that indicate that they might be. Its definitely possible we are doing the right thing by breaking that mold. Look no further than the Astros, when it comes to pitching...they are smarter than the rest of the league.
  19. Still supports his argument that you're making over the top statements that aren't backed up by actual facts. Career vs. LHP Villar: .325/.434/.759 Murphy: .317/.404/.722 2018 vs. LHP Villar: .352/.540/.892 Murphy: .296/.292/.588 Murphy has started slow, but you can't ignore the numbers. Right now, Villar is hitting LHP very well.
  20. Yeah BA is fantastic, I think we are very lucky to have him for as many games as we do. There's a reason he's becoming a top option for playoff baseball and basketball. He might become the guy that calls the NCAA finals very soon. I never minded Lepay, but I agree he's significantly improved. I wouldn't mind getting someone other than Rock on occasion. I've heard all his lines 1000 times over at this point. Yes, I know that getting hit by the ball...immediately after is the best it's gonna feel all night. Yes, I know you should put 0-2 pitches in the dirt or way up out of the zone. Back to the point, BA is fantastic.

  22. I suspect arcia will be relied on heavily on defense with this move. Its definitely a courageous move, much easier to get a struggling dozier.
  23. Shaw says he's never played 2b in a game at any level. This is a serious gamble.
  24. That's pretty sad. Amateur hour from the Twins.
