  1. He's not hitting as well and has no positional flexibility, though he is the more established name. Depends on the market...more teams could use a guy like Escobar over a 2b only. I suspect he gets less.
  2. Just because you can beat a deal doesn't mean you should. That said, I agree that I sure hope we make at least 1 more acquisition...preferably 3 more.
  3. #11, #19, and unranked. Both of the ranked prospects are the type I would be targeting if I was the Twins. This is probably comparable to Carmona + Ashby from the Brewers...were we able to trade Ashby.
  4. Going young on the prospects...
  5. Ol HH19 is claiming the Brewers are about to acquire Cabrera and Wheeler, and that Ortiz is in the package. If that doesn't happen in the next 24 hours...further proof that he's full of it
  6. This seems like it's going to be expensive. I agree with above poster, this virtually assures that Dozier is traded in the next 5 days. Also takes away a potential landing spot.
  7. Agreed to some degree on both accounts. I am a bit concerned about Escobar's bat regressing, he's posting a career year. All depends on cost. If someone like Widener is heading to Minnesota, I'll be glad we didn't make the deal.
  8. There goes the 2nd best available SS. Hopefully Arcia gets it together...
  9. Oh man you are nuts. I have Anderson on my team, no way would I risk starting him tonight. This is the type of team that will go on a hit parade against Anderson. I don't like our outlook tonight.
  10. People want even more grizzled vets. Ones that they've seen play in the playoffs already, as if that really has much to do with anything. Is Matt Garza still available? He has a pretty good track record...
  11. Can you imagine how tough a situation the Rockies would be in had he taken the Wade Davis deal? The sure dodged a bullet.
  12. Isn’t that what we do with our players? What do you think a still in his prime controllable starting pitcher would go for in July and why would a GM not seek maximum value for such a rare commodity? Again, I don't think Gibson is that valuable. He's having a career year, which in reality is only a decent season...which is at least partially due to BABIP luck and likely to have some regression. I don't blame a GM for trying to get max value, but saying something like that is stupid. Sure if the Brewers were in a similar team situation, Stearns could say we'd need to be blown away to give up Chacin...but he would sound similarly stupid. Might as well not say anything. I generally just find all the posturing and GM speak through the media to be silly and pointless, I can't recall seeing Stearns make similar comments. I guess my main point, this is the type of comment you should make when you want to field offers for Degrom or Realmuto. Not the 40th best starting pitcher in baseball that's been generally lucky to be posting such good results and only has 1+ seasons of team control.
  13. Is it really necessary for every GM to beat their chest and act like their guy is the second coming of Nolan Ryan or Griffey? Gibson has been somewhere between average and bad for most of his career...and his having his best year at age 30. But apparently, they need to be blown away to deal the guy because he has a year of team control left? Exactly how much value does this yahoo think he has in Gibson? I'd rather the Twins keep him and get 10 cents on the dollar next deadline. I find this GM speak to be incredibly obnoxious, almost as if they are begging to not be taken seriously... I'll add that Gibson hasn't even been THAT good. 3.4 ERA, 3.8 FIP. Most of his ratios are aroudn the same as last year, except his k rate has jumped a bit. He's allowing more hard contact than normal, and his GB rate is a career low. BABIP is also a career low. Definitely a candidate for some regression...definitely not someone that a team needs to be blown away to trade.
  14. Should we go trade for Curtis Granderson and his track record of success? Or go sign Garza? Hamels is not the same pitcher he was even 2 years ago. Hamels is sporting the highest line drive rate and highest hard hit rate of his career. Maybe he gets revitalized by moving to a contender, it's a real concern. But you don't just go get name guys for the sake of getting name guys. There's a much higher chance that Hamels is washed up and posting a 5+ ERA down the stretch than of him posting a sub 3 ERA.
  15. Soria has been specifically devastating to RH batters this year. 493 OPS vs 701 vs LHB. He is the best on the Brewers against RHB this year, just barely ahead of Josh Hader with 524. Taylor Williams is right up there by Hader against RHB but has been very bad against lefties. I guess generally my point is, we should try very hard to have Soria face primarily RHB.
  16. I tend to agree. I actually think the Twins also are waiting to see how these next 2 or 3 games play out before making a decision. If both teams win all of their next 3 games...both teams might hold their pieces and try to make a stretch run, which would seriously limit our 2b market. You would probably end up platooning Murphy during the regular season with Villar. Would help keep Murphy fresh and Villar is probably better vs LHP. I suspect we may have a bit of a lull over the next couple days with minimal movement, I doubt we see as many moves over the next couple days as we saw yesterday.
  17. Pretty much everyone but you said Hamels was garbage well before the Cubs were even in on him. You even acknowledged that others disagreed. Then he was traded to the Cubs which changed no ones feelings that he is still garbage. Has nothing to do with rationalizing the Cubs' moves. And it is easily arguable that many in our rotation at the very minimum match up with everyone on that list except Quintana. My biggest concern with them getting Hamels, is that he was a guy going through the motions in the last year of his deal...and will have some fire for the stretch run now that games actually matter. His last 5 starts were against mostly awful opponents and he posted a 10+ ERA...which doesn't factor in quite a few unearned runs as well. And regarding rotation, we are very likely to be bullpening a majority of any playoff games...and very few bullpens can match up with ours. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3 man rotation and 9 or 10 man bullpen.
  18. Yeah, it's called hyperbole but I still think you're smart enough to get the point. I did, if anything it added to your point. Being connected to someone by mainstream media doesn't seem to mean much.
  19. The Brewers have been connected to everyone possible so I'm taking this with a grain of salt. Having said that, Harvey would be a stupid move if we gave up anything of legitimate value. You know who we WEREN'T connected to? Soria...
  20. Posey by a long shot. A more fair race would be Johnny Estrada now vs Kratz. Or Kratz vs a stone.
  21. I'll settle for a good AB from Aguilar. Can't blame the guy for not driving in the run when he doesn't get a pitch to hit...
  22. Aguilar needs to pretend the Giants cap...is actually a reds cap.
  23. Has anyone heard specifics on the return?
