  1. Ok new one, HH, what are the chances in your opinion that Darvish signs with someone before pitchers/catchers report? The saga doesn't seem all that close to ending based on what you've said.
  2. Can't comment. Sorry. Whatever the trade is, what would you say are the chances it happens before pitchers/catchers report next week based on what you've heard?
  3. HH, are the brewers targeting any Cleveland pitchers at the mlb level? If so, do you know specifically which one(s)?
  4. We all appreciate any insights you're willing to send our way.
  5. I think he might have something more official. Like a done deal.
  6. LOL! Ok. I think the information HH19 gets is better than what Stearns tells Haudricourt...knowing full well that anything Stearns says will be broadcast for everyone in the world to see. Most here would agree, it's pretty clear he has some sort of inside source with the Brewers.
  7. I look at him as a minor league deal guy, or a last resort type option if we strike out on the bigger names. I don't know that Garcia is better than Woodruff at this point...and he likely won't be 2 years from now. Not that we'd sign him to a 2 year deal, moreso that Woodruff getting experience at the mlb level now benefits him more 2 years from now than more AAA innings.
  8. Decline is part of it, the other part is so many players start coasting after they sign their last big contract. Do you think Pujols is working out like he did earlier in his career? Have you seen him lately?...that dude probably works out one handful of potato chips at a time in the off season and gets paid $30 million/year. The decline part is definitely real though, and it probably makes sense to revisit the 6 years of team control thing, and likewise competitive balance so small market teams can compete. The end result probably should be a salary cap/floor so players can guarantee themselves X share of the market while allowing smaller markets to compete. That won't happen for silly reasons, but that doesn't change that the system probably needs addressing.
  9. I get that you are frustrated that something hasn't happened yet, but there are seemingly too many irons in the fire pitching wise for them to walk away empty-handed. I would be very, very surprised if they went into Spring Training with the current pitching staff as-is. And Stearns' interview over the weekend with Haudricourt? Complete smokescreen. I mean, what's he supposed to say? "Well, we have the foundation of a deal in place for Chris Archer, but I'm hung up on whether to include Brett Phillips. I sure hope no one else hops in while I'm deciding! Hey, are you taping this?" Why are you under the impression I'm frustrated? Just because I have an opposing view point doesn't mean you have to classify that as something negative. What Stearns said may or may not be a smokescreen but you have no clue. Either way, there is enough out there to draw a fairly stable conclusion if your being logical. I'm frustrated that the offseason hasn't really happened yet. Not specifically the Brewers, just the offseason as a whole. All the posturing is annoying. GM's say their computer systems show a player is worth X dollars. Player says they are worth Y dollars because a similar player got Y dollars and proceeded to be worth nowhere near that amount.
  10. I don't think I would lose hope in anything. We aren't going to go into 2018 with Darvish, Arrieta, Cobb, Lynn, Hosmer, Moustakas, etc all unemployed. Martinez is a whiner so he might be unemployed, but the rest will all get signed at some point soon. Tons of activity left to happen, and i think it happens relatively quickly once the first domino falls(Darvish).
  11. Amen! This has everything to do with agents not wanting to lose face after misreading the market and making promises they can't keep. Teams can pull their offers if they get annoyed and choose to. But to have all GM's get on a conference call and all agree to pull their offers to screw over the player...are you seriously proposing that?
  12. I doubt it. They don't have enough quality pitching as is. I don't think they trade Bundy until mid-season...when they are down 12 games and punt on the year and trade Machado. At that point, they won't have interest in Santana.
  13. Why would Bundy be untouchable? Especially on a team nearing a tear down like the orioles are...
  14. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/2018/02/03/surprise-surprise-odorizzi-is-still-with-rays-for-now/ Odorizzi would be solid if the Brewers got one of the top end free agent pitchers. If he is all they add then it is a disappointment Odorizzi is trending the wrong way for me. I'd rather roll with Woodruff as the number 5 than take on Odorizzi. I certainly hope we are aiming higher than him, I'd also rather roll the dice on Santana + a small piece for Salazar(even though the Brewers should be getting the small piece) than make a small trade for Odorizzi.
  15. That would be the definition of collusion, which the owners are on the fringe of being accused of...
  16. So because Nelson's injury concerns are greater than Archer's, that means we should disregard our concerns on Archer? You are talking about giving up a huge chunk of value for Archer, every aspect of the guy should be scrutinized before pulling the trigger. Including the fact that throwing overhand is an unnatural motion and guys generally can only throw so many innings before their body/arm wear down and become less effective. Being a slider heavy pitcher exacerbates that problem. Some guys have rubber arms and can throw seemingly forever(CC, Verlander, etc), but these guys are the exception...not the rule. Maybe Archer is another exception. Can't blame the board for being cautious/critical of that fact...when the acquisition cost is so high.
  17. I like the idea of a 3 team trade for a starter, sending Santana to either Arizona or Boston and getting Duffy/Fulmer/Archer while the 3rd team gets prospects from both sides. I just don't like the idea of targeting Greinke. I would look at a 3 team trade with Arizona getting Santana, us getting Archer, and the Rays getting Pavin Smith/a back end top 10 from arizona/luis ortiz/grisham/and a future bullpen arm(houser/williams/bickford/etc). Maybe not exactly that, but something like that. Tampa gets their future all-star and a few other significant pieces.
  18. I also don't think TB is getting enough to move both Archer and Adames. This is a horrible horrible trade for Tampa. Also this is an outstanding deal for Arizona. They get probably an equivalent pitcher for 1/5 of the cost AND Arcia...
  19. I would expect Cashner to end up in Baltimore or even Pittsburgh. I could see him getting a 2 year deal easily. If he has a good first half on top of his 2017, he could become a flip candidate. Cashner could also take a 1 year deal and try to reset his value next offseason, but I tend to agree he could be a candidate for 2/16 or 2/20. Darvish/Arrieta are tier 1, Lynn/Cobb are tier 2, and Cashner is at the very top of tier 3.
  20. I think sometimes what we have a hard time with is that multiple players can be great at the same time. Those two, while they have different styles of play, are interchangeable. I think a guy like Brees would be too. If you stuck any of those three on New England over the last decade, you would have pretty close to the same results. I actually strongly contend that both Brees and Rodgers are more talented than Brady and New England would have been more successful with those 2 guys. It's not even questionable with Rodgers. He has the best arm in football and can make every throw, and makes good judgement decisions. Brady makes a living throwing primarily 5 yard passes to quick receivers that are good for YAC. He's definitely a great QB, he executes the game plan extremely well. But a large part of the reason he's had so much playoff success relates to coach/scheme/defense. So saying he's the GOAT over his playoff success is like saying Trent Dilfer was better than Dan Marino. One thing I noticed in this particular superbowl was the lack of offensive holding calls. I saw considerable holding by both teams...but especially on New England. Some were blatant that I couldn't believe didn't get called. You wonder why both QB's could stand back there with basically unlimited time most plays?
  21. Pretty good article. Here's the $$$ quote: "Here’s the problem that players and especially agents have trouble accepting: they are working in a disrupted industry. A rise in intellect and information has fundamentally changed the economics of baseball, just as they have changed many industries. Corporate profits are up in a roaring economy while wages are stagnant? How familiar does that sound to many millions of Americans?" Without the team control, wages wouldn't be down. Guys in their primes simply would be paid better, and veterans would be paid probably less than they are now. I liked this article, they made a lot of good points that most media heads are either too stupid to figure out or it simply doesn't fit their agenda to point it out. Sounds a lot like non-sports related news...
  22. I think an opt out is highly likely no matter who he signs with. I'd give it to him after 2 years to be honest.
  23. Haudricourt asking Stearns a question. Garbage. Stearns isn’t going to show his hand. He isn’t going to give us insider info etc. Haudricourt is worthless for rumors and inside info. This could definitely be an effort at gaining leverage with other GM's/agents. Hard to say, I still think it's unlikely anything is imminent based on that comment. No reason to make a comment like that if something was going to happen in the next 24 hours.
  24. It sounds like nothing is imminent, or other teams asking prices are too high. This makes me feel like nothing is going to happen for us in the next few days, maybe we try to pick off Cobb or Lynn once the ball starts rolling...or a different GM blinks on their demands for SP. We definitely will add a SP, one way or another.
  25. Hot stove...cooling.....
