  1. Add to that, he was really mailing it in for the Angels in his time there. He looked like Bartolo Colon for a few years. And now, he didn't go Gabe Kapler or anything but I can't see his gut waddlin around inside his jersey when he runs the bases anymore. So clearly he put in some effort finally. I'm also convinced he's a juicer that never got caught and he's one of the guys that lied about his age.
  2. I happened to notice this happening and tuned in. Hader was hitting 98 pretty regularly, location was an issue though. His k was on 98 literally middle middle, the hitter was just a hair late. While watching, as much as I knew him imploding again would have been great for the Brewers, I was rooting for him to finish the game off. I've been a big fan of Hader for a long time and feel for the guy as much as I can feel for a multi-millionaire baseball player. I feel like he needed that one. Hopefully this weekend against the Dodgers the Padres just get smoked by 5 runs a game and Hader doesn't even have to pitch, that sounds way better.
  3. Couldn't agree more on how huge that was for Houser to knock those 2 innings out with relative ease. It never got concerning, one double with a five run lead isn't concerning. The Diamondbacks are next and they've been scoring a lot of runs lately against contending teams. I wouldn't expect that to change against us, with that said they've also been allowing a lot of runs lately. I think we might be in for some higher scoring games and hopefully the bats are up to the task...
  4. I get your point, certainly a balancing act. Also need to remember CC has far more info on who's available, who's dealing with fatigue, who's dealing with a sore elbow, who's battling a cold, etc...than you or I.
  5. Whenever I question a managers decisions(which as a fan is often), I try to distinguish between whether I view something as a choice and a mistake. Like yes maybe you pitch Rogers over Boxberger which seems to be what you're implying, my guess is Rogers was lined up for the 9th. I view that inning as a choice, I didn't see any glaring errors. Whereas leaving Hader in when we had him as long as he did against the Giants I viewed as a very glaring error. Starting Taylor today is also a choice. I would certainly prefer to see Mitchell in there, but I also understand not going to a hard platoon with Mitchell at this point and having Taylor rarely see atbats. I'm kinda hoping Mitchell gets at least 4 starts per week and sees action on days he doesn't start(he's the best outfield defender in the entire system plus the speed thing), but to this point I don't see CC making mistakes with Mitchell's playing time as he did with Hiura this season.
  6. Yesterday's game, I didn't look back at the game thread for obvious reasons...but I'm sure many were questioning CC's decision to leave boxberger in when he clearly wasn't super sharp. I'm normally very critical of CC, but in this case I understood why he kept him in. Unfortunately, we're in a long stretch of games without an off day. We do have reinforcements coming soon, but it's pretty important that the bullpen is effective and can continue to get rest as needed. That decision was basically the anti-Joe Maddon...and Joe Maddon was notorious for overplaying matchups and then 3/4 of his bullpen would be injured or ineffective by July. It happened this way either 3 or 4 years in a row and was part of the reason the Cubs didn't win multiple WS with that core...and also part of the reason he's been canned twice in the last few years. Point being, pulling Boxberger was probably something he didn't feel comfortable doing as he would have overstressed one or multiple arms over the next few weeks by making that decision...and I can understand the decision. It'll be helpful when we can get a couple reinforcements like Houser, Cousins, Gott, etc...guys that can hopefully quickly work themselves into working high leverage situations down the stretch to take some pressure off Milner/Bush/Strezwhatever.
  7. My comment was moreso directed at his general negativity towards the brewers, not specific to hiura.
  8. Nobody on this forum could effectively run a baseball practice for mlb ball players. That's a weird place to take your comment and not fair at all...
  9. Yeah it's kinda like beating my head against a wall isn't it? It isn't fun participating when the sky is falling literally every time something doesn't go the brewers way in a game. These guys would literally be the guy sitting at the bar that nobody wants to talk to because they are miserable humans and not enjoyable at all to be around or watch a game with, yet nothing can be done here so they consistently pop into the game threads with their negativity and completely ruin them. It's what it is, it's probably time to stop beating my head against a wall and pushing back against them.
  10. Gosh these threads are unbearable. I figure there must be some excitement with the Mitchell hr, a handful of positive comments and the whiners are back in full force.
  11. After that series with the Dodgers, both the Padres and Phillies strength of schedule went up while ours is the 4th lowest in baseball. Also worth noting, the Brewers took 3 of 7 from a Dodgers team that is absolutely on fire right now. They came to town on something like a 12 game winning streak, and in between our 2 series they beat up the Marlins to the tune of 19-4 over 3 games including a matchup against the likely Cy Young. We should be pretty darn pleased we were able to get 3 from this team at this given point in time(and here's hoping they are peaking too early). Now of course, buckle down and rack up a nice winning streak against the bottom half teams and cement a spot in the wildcard.
  12. Yup, you're right, the result is all that matters...or something
  13. It wasn't just Taylor, the second inning was tough to watch. 92 at the belt over and over and everyone trying to hit it 500 feet and instead missing. It's tough watching the dodgers have good at bats and string hits together while every Brewer is trying to hit a homer
  14. Did you consider we were about a foot away from the Justin Turner ground ball being a double play and only 1 scoring?
  15. Pretty sure it was the best option available...
  16. The dodgers just beat up burnes last night and the likely NL Cy young earlier this week. Houser really hasn't pitched poorly. The early walks were unfortunate but he's locating decently and battling...
  17. Oh no, you really hit me where it hurts! If you're looking for a bunch of halfwits to smile and nod along with every one of your bad anti-brewer takes...perhaps bleacher nation or Northsidebaseball are a better fit for you...
  18. This is your comment, the numbers and eye test indicate they are far from "failing" at defense. Perhaps you are referring to other fundamental parts as well such as.....?
  19. I never said it wasn't, where I disagree is your comment like it's this constant thing...the brewers playing bad defense and making errors. It's far from that, and the numbers back me up
  20. It's nice seeing the bottom of the order hit sometimes because those guys tend not to try hitting every ball 500 feet. I've been frustrated lately watching mccutchen, renfroe, tellez, hiura taking nothing but home run cuts...except the two times renfroe bunted. Hopefully yelich can keep the train going
  21. They certainly do to me, and defensive metrics back them up. Yes, urias should have gotten an error on that one bad play he made. Im sure that will factor in to the team defense on the season and we'll remain a very above average defensive team...
  22. Care to back that up? It looks like the brewers as a team rank 8th in baseball in DRS with 30. That includes obvious weak spots like yelich. We aren't going to play perfect defense, we aren't going to get a hit every at bat, we aren't going to beat every team 10-0, especially the dodgers
  23. Not to take anything away from Freddie on that hit. Nice work with the wrists to serve it out to left, the announcer was like "not many left handed hitters can handle a fastball up and away out of the zone". Should anything suter throws really be classified as a fastball?
  24. I'm not sure it's fair to include Mitchell in that group. Frelick/Turang don't have much raw power, so projecting power gains wouldn't be wise. Mitchell however does have a fair amount of raw power that could be tapped into in the future. He doesn't project like the other two. Also at this point, we're like 2 days away. They've come this far, might as well commit for 1-2 more days.
