  1. Can you give me some more pointers on how to post on the forum? Or how to be funny? I'll return the favor by providing you some guidance on how to remove the stick from........
  2. I'm honestly at a loss. Do you really think i, or anyone on this board, thinks players should be paid whatever they ask for in arbitration? Is this real life? Or is this a funny sarcastic response to my clear sarcasm? I really really hope for your sake it's the latter, though i really don't think so.
  3. Another interesting guy, giving competition for the rookies. There's always the risk that bringing in a guy like Naquin would hamper development of the young guys by not allowing consistent MLB level at bats. It's a minor league deal so hardly locked into anything. But definitely something to keep an eye on, would be quite annoying to watch Naquin hit 250/260 while Weimer/Frelick sit in AAA until June.
  4. He probably has a bit more of a shot than you give him credit for. To get the job, he'll have to earn it. If Voit looks in good shape and is hot a the plate all spring, the 5 million we are paying Tellez is not going to guarantee him a spot. I don't think anyone thinks Voit has the inside track by any stretch, but he certainly can win the job if he looks good and performs.
  5. Other thing to note, a guy like Voit would probably have been offered minor league deals by most teams. He's good enough to most likely more or less have his choice of where to go. He clearly thinks he has a shot to win the job here.
  6. I know Stearns is gone, but since Stearns came...the Brewers always seem to try to bring in guys on minor league deals to truly create competition. Voit has had some insane stretches in his career, I don't think he's here simply as insurance. I think he's here to create true competition and therefore has a real shot at making the roster...but he'll really have to show up and earn it to stick around. Every year the Brewers bring in a ton of guys on minor league deals and more often than not, one or two make the roster.
  7. Once a hearing goes to arbitration, it's one or the other. There's no middle ground. As far as the negotiations beforehand, most team at this point are file and trial...meaning if they don't come to an agreement before numbers are submit, they don't negotiate from that point forward and go to a hearing. I wouldn't have blamed the Brewers for not even negotiating at all, and from that point on throwing out team friendly proposals just to see if he'd bite is also fine...especially if they felt confident they had the better argument. I also don't have a problem with them going to a hearing. Going to a hearing doesn't require bashing the absolute best player on your team and blaming him for missing the postseason. That can't be the only way to win a hearing. You're talking about the most casual of fans who think "burnes is good, just pay him what he wants to keep him happy".
  8. The majority of players don't ever go to arbitration. It seems like the majority of good Brewers players that went to arbitration recently were the ones that had similar negative experiences as Burnes did. Another user noted that Max Fried lost his arbitration and had no hard feelings. Maybe he's just better at not being bothered, or maybe the Braves took the high road and weren't willing to upset the player by trashing him in the hearing.
  9. Yes, I said every team should give every good player what they want. You're quoting skills are on point today. Think about this like a Democrat or Republican primary election. Don't go negative, you're on the same team and will be on the same team once the primary is done. It's better to lose than go super negative and win.
  10. Yes, they posted transcripts. The transcript said "Tplush stop making silly comments, of course they didn't post the transcripts". I'm going to believe that Corbin Burnes didn't pull that comment out of thin air, feel free to continue to believe that he did if you'd like. Maybe he paraphrased, but I also struggle with how the Brewers could have framed in a non-negative/trashy manner that Burnes performance helped cost the Brewers a postseason run. There's not really a good way to say that, especially to the guy that was the literal best player on the team last year. You also have a handful of notable former Brewers that have similar hard feelings, Hader came out of a hearing and all of a sudden was adamantly a 1 inning pitcher. Coincidence? Or maybe the fireman role doesn't get as much in arbitration so he was adamant about being a 1 inning closer only. I suspect Burnes does have a pretty decent understanding of the process as he came up with a pretty good/reasonable comp in Bieber for what his increase should be. He probably was thinking "there's no way my increase should be less than this guy" considering he's been the clear better pitcher the last 2 combined years. I suspect him thinking the offers were poor reflect that. As much as his comments weren't a very good strategy play for him going forward, as a fan I applaud him for calling out bad behavior. Otherwise the Brewers can more or less get away with it and avoid the public scrutiny they deserve.
  11. Well the Braves made the postseason, so their FO didn't have that card in their back pocket.
  12. I will agree that Burnes airing his grievances wasn't productive and probably wasn't the best option. I'll also add, since Burnes was drafted, I haven't heard him make a single negative comment about the organization until now. Now he's making comments with a sentiment that is backed by quite a few former Brewers. Those things give his comments a lot of credibility with me.
  13. Nobody said that, but nice try shifting the argument to something most people aren't arguing. As you tagged me, I made clear I have no problem with the fact this went to arbitration. I believe Burnes case was better based on my limited knowledge, but it's certainly not a slam dunk. How you win in this case matters, and I'm disappointed the Brewers stooped to the level they did to win 750k.
  14. Going to baseball savant and dropping a few advanced analytics doesn't change the fact that replace Burnes with the next best guy severely damages the pitching numbers. This is a case of, winning is not necessarily the most important thing for the Brewers. Try to win, but how you win absolutely matters. It's better to lose than stoop to the level the Brewers are alleged to have stooped to win.
  15. Imagine where the Brewers pitching would be if you plugged Jason Alexander/Ethan Small/whoever for Burnes 200+ innings of sub 3 era. I promise you it wouldn't be 16th, or 17th, or 18th, or 19th........ It's also tough to imagine the Brewers truly 10th in runs, we had 1 guy with over 800 OPS that had over 100 AB...and that was Hunter Renfroe who blew that number out of the water with his massive 807 OPS. The entire lineup was littered with sub 240 hitters except one or two guys.
  16. It doesn't seem likely he simply made up this claim. And couple this with comments from other recent Brewers...very likely to be accurate.
  17. Agreed. Burnes asking for the same increase as Bieber is a downright reasonable ask in my opinion, it's probably more than reasonable as he's been at least a bit better over the last 2 years combined. I'm a bit taken back by some of the people defending the Brewers here. Imagine more or less carrying a pathetic offense to the brink of the post season and in your arbitration hearing, apparently Corbin it's your fault the Brewers didn't make the post season. Let me ask, where is this squad without Corbin? There'd be a heck of a lot more discussion on these forums about what top 10 talent we might be getting in the draft this year. Brewers FO are straight clowns.
  18. Nice article. Burnes was never coming back regardless. The discount required is too extreme to even be a consideration. The biggest issues could be Burnes not being willing to pitch on short rest ever, which i frankly wouldn't blame him considering. That could be problematic in the playoffs and/or if we have injuries down the stretch and he's healthy/able.
  19. I'm a bit late to the party on this. I read through a fair amount of the comments. I don't think it was bad on the Brewers to go to arbitration. It does sound like they did a little too much dunking on Burnes. I don't think Burnes is lying or embellishing in any way. The 750k the Brewers saved is not worth the negative PR they are getting right now. This type of reputation might be a deciding factor down the line for certain free agents. And it's just principally the wrong way to carry yourself and your organization. You can go into this hearing objectively with a justification like "we used this comparable with this much of an increase" vs "look how bad Burnes was after the all star break, he's the reason we missed the playoffs". It's honestly a gross thing to say, who knows what else was said. So much of this stuff is based off precedent anyways, that certainly carries more weight than dunking on his second half performance.
  20. https://www.mlb.com/news/jesse-winker-recovering-well-from-offseason-spinal-surgery?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share
  21. The decision isn't that simple when you factor in trying to keep Adames/Burnes/Woodruff...even for that last year of arbitration as their raises for next year will be substantial. The Brewers aren't a team that can pay many players the going rate, we need to find value where others don't and utilize team control players. Next year, Yelich/Adames/Burnes/Woodruff are gonna run us around 70 million assuming we keep them all. At a 140 million payroll if it can stretch that high, that's 70 million to pay 36 other players. Adding another 20 for one player(especially a LF/DH) is not realistic and changes what we can do with Adames/Burnes/Woodruff.
  22. The only way the Brewers offer a QO is if it's more or less a slam dunk that he won't take it. To use an extreme example, if Winker posts 1000+ OPS with 40+ dingers, I suspect we'll offer it and take the free draft pick as he's probably looking at a Nick Castellanos contract. If he has a season similar to Joc Pederson, whereas Pederson was offered the QO and eventually took it, we won't be offering. We're not in a financial position to be able to offer that unless it's more or less risk free.
  23. One general thought, Winker has pretty much the maximum motivation to put everything he has into working hard this offseason. To physically recover from 2 surgeries, contract year, he's in a battle for playing time. If he doesn't force his way into the lineup against a field of highly regarded prospects and produce enough to get interest in free agency, he'll wind up a non-roster invitee somewhere hoping to make a roster to earn 2-3 million next year...and he knows it. I would like to think that motivation will have him putting in work this offseason like he never has. I'm a firm believer that talent will only get you so far and you need to be outworking the field to get ahead. Winker has the talent, we've all seen it, and he has every motivation to outwork the field.
  24. It's a gamble to a degree, but at this point...both surgeries are pretty routine. Either one on their own he would have a strong chance to come back from. Having 2 certainly adds to/compounds the risk a bit as either one could be problematic and prevent a comeback. It's far more likely than not that he'll recover just fine from the surgeries, whether he comes back and can hit is another question...I'm betting that he does at least against RHP.
  25. Spring Training MVP: Jesse winker Surprise OD roster inclusion(s): none Surprise OD roster omission(s): none Breakout(s): Garrett Mitchell, Freddy peralta Disappointment(s): Christian yelich Bounceback(s): Keston hiura, Luis urias Season MVP: Corbin burnes Cy Young: Corbin Burnes Reliever of the Year: Devin Williams Rookie of the Year: Garrett Mitchell Bold Prediction: Christian yelich loses his starting spot in the lineup in July/August. I'm well aware of how big a deal it would be to bench a 200 million player, I still think it happens. In my opinion he's not hungry or motivated in comparison to the rest of the league. Classic case of guy got paid and is coasting. I'm expecting a career worst year. Brewers Record: 94-68 Postseason? Yes
