Yelich is a bad defender in LF, he'd be laughable in CF. McCutchen is below average but passable in CF in Miller Park, but in any decent sized outfield we don't really want him out there. San Diego, NYM, LAD, SF, St Louis...all bigger parks and our most likely matchups in a potential postseason series. So those away games you have to run Taylor. I think it's pretty darn important we add a CF to avoid that issue.

Bell I think would be one of a few moves that would definitely move the needle. Bell would take atbats against lefties from Tellez and righties from McCutchen. You could more or less use those 3 guys to cover the 2 spots and hide the greatest weaknesses of the 3. You'd also have a really nice PH option late in the game. I remember in the last couple days we had Caratini come up in a key PH spot, as much as I like Caratini...I'd rather see Bell or Tellez take that at bat. I don't think Bell would be excessively expensive. There are probably other 1b/dh options available so it's not like we're gonna send Joey Weimer to get the deal done. And if we don't get Bell, as I said there are other 1b/dh options so we'll be fine.

Frelick having a big July, I feel like he's playing his way to the lowly pirates. I certainly think Frelick would be a prime candidate as part of a trade for Reynolds. I have to imagine the only player Chourio moves for is Soto, and I don't know that completely gutting the farm system for him makes sense when it would make plugging other holes in the lineup that much more difficult. We'd still need a CF, and him and Yelich would lock down the LF/DH spots so we couldn't really rotate other players into the DH ever. Also McCutchen would pretty much never get another at bat ever again(i wouldn't be too sad about this).

Mancini really shouldn't be playing outfield ever, he's worse out there than Yelich by a fair margin. Doing this would mean Tellez/Mancini against RH pitching and Mancini/McCutchen against LHP in the 1b/DH spots. Not a bad target, hopefully not too expensive.

Trevor Bauer suspended for two seasons
KeithStone53151 replied to NBBrewFan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I do find it a bit weird and inconsistent that Marcell Ozuna can grab his wife by the throat and throw her into a wall, and get "time served" while he's injured anyways and come back the following season, but Bauer gets a 2 year suspension for supposedly consensual albeit freaky and weird conduct. If you delve into the details of the 2 Bauer cases, there were multiple episodes with each individual woman...it's hard to say you didn't want it when you come back freely. That said, it's generally just weird because what he's accused of is so gross and heinous, it in general just feels bad and feels wrong even if there was supposed consent. At the end of the day, I think his suspension has plenty to do with his prior antics as well as his current accusations. Objectively, it was far too harsh in my opinion considering how MLB has handled off field conduct violations...that said, I don't really care and also wouldn't care if he got blackballed after his suspension is over. Sidenote, I'm still not over Marcell Ozuna getting more or less no penalty whatsoever and him currently playing baseball. If there was video, it would be like Ray Rice all over again and the penalty would instantly change. But with no video, fans don't care. -
Weston Wilson I think would have so much better of a shot if he was a left handed hitter. I don't know how good his glove is at positions but I believe he plays in a lot of spots. So theoretically as a LH bat he could compete with what Jace is providing if he ever struggles and Jace sees a pretty fair amount of playing time. As a RH bat he's really competing with Hiura/Brosseau for playing time when Tellez/Wong don't play(Yelich too but there's about 30 million reasons he won't sit much). Hiura has just way too much potential to not get all the playing time that those 2 guys don't get at those 2 spots, and Brosseau doesn't really see much playing time as is.

It happens so often that journeymen rake in AAA to struggle mightily at MLB. AAA to MLB is without question the most difficult level jump, as much as I love your content with the minor league stuff...I'm not sure any of those AAA guys will solve any problems. I also don't think there's a single above average defender in the bunch you posted about.

Article: 4 Bold Brewers Predictions for 2022
KeithStone53151 replied to Tim Muma's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
I disagree on Yelich in general but we've covered that in another thread. I also understand these are bold predictions, but one thing you didn't really mention is the impact of the DH in either of your pitching predictions. That alone is going to significantly impact our pitchers. Even if they are generally more effective than 2021 as a whole, it would be hard to be better statistically.- 14 replies
