  1. You don't think maybe it's more likely he missed his location?
  2. That really was a poor throw. Yelich also seemed very unathletic setting himself up to throw.
  3. If you don't put up 10 runs on a guy with a 1 era over the last month, the brewers fans will cry. Noted...
  4. Just a reminder that urias is pitching to an ERA around 1 over the last 30 days. The fact we're making him work to the tune of 60+ through 4 is a small victory. To this point we don't look outmatched in this game...
  5. A hit is more valuable than a walk. A hit gets a guy in from 2nd. A walk puts 2 on for the next guy. Eventually, you have to get a hit. And in the playoffs, the pitching is too good...you're not gonna get anywhere being selective and taking pitches. You better be able to hit your way on or have enough power that you're pitched carefully...and even then, the pitchers aren't going to respect a guy hitting 180.
  6. I already edited it once and apparently didn't fix it. Grammar clearly is not my strong suit. Thank you all for pointing out my glaring grammatical error. I updated it to make it clear...or so i hope.
  7. I read this and thought you were definitely wrong. Then I looked it up. How does every Dodgers starter have an ERA in the 2s? What in the actual heck?
  8. Considering it's a 4 game, the only guy NOT going is ashby...who pitched yesterday.
  9. The path to winning in the postseason, is using maybe our top 10 pitchers. Burnes, Woodruff, Lauer, Houser, Peralta, Ashby, Williams, Rogers, Bush. Those are the guy that'll will pitch the most. We might see Gott, Milner, Cousins, maybe Rosenthal pitch some...but aside from Rosenthal they'll be used sparingly. You won't see Gustave or McGee or whoever else going in and giving up 3 runs in the 7th. More likely is Burnes pitches 6-7, Ashby pitches to the 9th, Williams closes. Game 2, Woodruff pitches 5-7, Peralta pitches 2, Milner gets a lefty out, Rogers pitches the 9th. That type of path is how this team is structured to win in the postseason. The focus will be scratching out a few runs and limiting to 2 or less, that's the path to victory for this team in the postseason as constructed.
  10. Where are you seeing this? I just went to fanduel and they have the Brewers -140 to make the playoffs...
  11. Frelick isn't on the 40, but we could punt Kelley or Davis and they would not be missed. If Davis were to even touch a bat in October, that's a big problem. His defense/running could be replaced by Frelick at minimum...and Frelick should provide a lot more with the bat as well as being left handed to platoon Taylor.
  12. Without looking, I would guess playoff odds are in the low 50s right now...and lower than the other 3 teams i identified. They could stoop lower if we only get 2 or 3 from the Dodgers, but there are plenty of "easier" games on the schedule. I also think a guy like Frelick could potentially spark the team a bit if he hits the ground running. Ruiz as well if he comes up in Sept to at least be a SB/runner late in games. Cousins/Houser take innings from our current worse 2 players on the roster...right now probably Strzelski and Alexander. Rosenthal if he's effective adds to the pen as well. Having more guys available in late innings allows more flexibility so we don't have to force Rogers to pitch back to back days of a day/night set. It's all cumulative even at this point. As others have noted, nothing to do except play the games out and hope. The Brewers obviously had a bit of a morale lull that first week after the break and gave away 5 of 6 winnable games. Since then, they have seemingly reset and took 3 of 5 against contenders. I'm hoping we can get 4 from the Dodgers over these 7, but 3 would be ok so long as we can clean up against the other teams.
  13. The Brewers sit currently 1.5 back of the Cardinals/Phillies and 2 back of the Padres. Of those 4 teams, 1 won't get in to the playoffs. There is certainly plenty of reason to think the Brewers will improve down the stretch. Some teams got a shot in the arm with big deadline moves, the Brewers did not. That type of morale impact is temporary, it certainly seemed like trading Hader lowered morale and cost us some games...it's unlikely that lasts much longer. We have reinforcements coming on the pitching front in Houser, Cousins, maybe Topa...and I'm still hopeful that Frelick forces his way into the CF role for the stretch run. We have the pitching that if the bats can heat up a bit at the right time...we can still be very dangerous down the stretch and into the playoffs. On paper, this team loses every time to the Dodgers and Mets. But baseball isn't played on paper. If we can get into the playoffs, it's certainly feasible that the players play a bit above their heads and have a few things go their way.
  14. Batting average is far from a meaningless stat. It certainly isn't as useful as some more all encompassing stats, but a 159 avg is bad unless every hit is a hr. Also, a single is much more valuable than a walk.
  15. From simply a payroll perspective, the Brewers opening day payroll was $132m. Currently with my arbitration estimates, we would have had a $122m payroll in 2023 with no major moves. Cutting Hader, declining Wong's option, and non-tendering Renfroe's final year of arbitration drops that to $90m($15m Hader, $8m savings on Wong, i estimate Renfroe at $9m next year in arbitration). Renfroe may be kept, I assumed we'd look to save the $ with the prospect options we have. Regardless, my primary point is that $15m could go a long way toward improving the offense next year. There's probably $30m or so of resources available and no real glaring holes to fill, just improve on mediocre areas.
  16. Is there a way to mute a person on here still? on the old site we could. This guy literally ruins every game thread he participates, I'm quite confident he's a cubs fan in disguise. Mute or boot please...
  17. Horrendous take. An umpires fragile little ego doesn't have to potentially change the outcome of a baseball game. NBA and NFL umpires hear quite a bit. The NBA has the technical foul system while NFL generally starts with a 15 yard penalty. In NFL it is exceedingly rare to see a 15 yard penalty for chewing out a ref unless he's also on the field too far or some other circumstance. NBA you see a fair amount of technicals but I still think they give quite a bit more rope in NBA than MLB. Either way, it's no warning. I remember seeing Greinke get thrown out in the first inning for getting upset at himself for making a bad pitch. Diva umpire thought it was directed at him. I saw Moustakas get tossed for trying to have a conversation with an umpire about a call the previous day. A conversation in a calm voice. He was mic'd up so it all made it on twitter or wherever. And now we the fans get to watch a lesser product for 3 innings because of bad umpiring and bad precedent. Edit - in this case, the umpire was definitively wrong on both calls. You can call them close, but they were balls. Yelich was right twice and the umpire made 4 bad calls.
  18. They were close, my gripe is moreso with the player getting tossed than the calls. It's crap. I'm sick of it happening in baseball in almost all cases. All these umpires must be overcompensating for something...
  19. Imagine screwing up twice at your job, and then toss the guy that calls out your screwup. Don't worry though, it's within 2 inches of the plate he'll get a positive grade for it. I can't stand these freaking umpires throwing players and managers out. It needs to stop in all but the most extreme cases. Umpire egos don't need to be a part of baseball...
  20. For those upset about not trading for a bat at the deadline, it's definitely not good strategy to overpay. Imagine right now if the Cardinals hadn't done this trade and still had alcantara. Imagine how much pain the brewers would be in right now.
  21. This was my biggest issue. Wong especially can hit lefties and he's 3 for 3 with a bomb, and you go to severino? I understood the tellez move a bit more because brosseau pounds lhp and tellez has real splits. I would have let Wong stay in over severino, no question.
  22. Unlikely, the cubs front office has been trash even in Theo's last few years...and especially since he bolted and left a giant mess for the next guy which is typical for him at this point. It sure is fun to see them with a meh system and their top guys underperforming go go with mostly aaaa talents at the mlb level. It's gonna be a bit before they are good again. Not getting value for Contreras won't help.
