  1. I didn't realize mlb is full of such man-babies. Him, Romo, scherzer...I'm sure there were plenty more hissy fits that I just haven't seen. The rule is the rule, suck it up for 20 seconds and get back to it. I just don't understand. Every hissy fit I see I generally assume said person was cheating and is upset they can't cheat anymore...
  2. Freddy Peralta had a pretty decent debut... https://www.milb.com/news/freddy-peralta-makes-history-in-major-league-debut-276710134
  3. And leading the majors in record against teams >= .500: 24-11 It's funny, Cubs fan forums have been complaining and saying the only reason we were winning so much is we played bad teams in June. While that may be true, what does that say about beating them all 3 games and 31-12 this past series?
  4. I will admit I thought starting Ashby was weird. I thought a better fit woudl have been letting him watch the game settle in a bit and have him 2nd or 3rd out of the pen, preferably against the bottom of their order to help ease his debut. But I'm sure CC/stearns are making the right call if they feel Burnes and the rest of the rotation needed an extra day.
  5. This is why teams managed by Joe Maddon consistently burn out in July/August(and why i miss him as the Cubs manager), well said.
  6. This is really reaching. The decision to put off Burnes until the Pirate game on Thursday was made before this series even started. The idea that they knew last week that Burnes had something going on that would make him unavailable on Wednesday but good to go by Thursday is a pretty enormous stretch. Burnes could have started today. Or maybe he felt fatigued and the extra day could help. We certainly can't know. To just assume he could start because it's an important opponent and you can count to 5 is really ignoring an unlimited number of variables that went into CC's decision. Worth noting, Burnes hasn't even been that sharp his last handful of outings...possibly due to fatigue, or a lingering issue, or who knows what.
  7. It's the big leagues man. No need to coddle the guy, he had a bad debut and it is what it is. If he is good enough to get big league hitters out it doesn't matter who you are playing. This is really out of touch with what happened. He earned 5 outs and trash defense couldn't convert 3 of them. Most single A teams convert all 5 of those outs routinely.
  8. For all the monday morning QB's saying we should have started Burnes, for all we know he's dealing with something minor and the extra day is necessary right now. Stuff like this we should all assume CC has a much better pulse on this thing than we do from our couches...
  9. The Brewers position players should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for their performance so far. Routine plays get us 5 outs at this point vs the 2 we have so far. Also I'm not super happy with the ump to this point, he's missed a few strikes on the outside corner for Ashby. He should have been out of this inning a long time ago with maybe 2 runs allowed.
  10. That's fair. I made a point to compare general team stats to other teams over that span as well. Whether it relates to sticky stuff or not, we are hitting much better over the last 15 days in comparison to the rest of the league than we were the first couple months of the year. 15 days is a very small sample, we'll see how that continues going forward. Hopefully the start of a trend.
  11. I was looking at Brewers numbers over the last 15 days. The foreign substance crackdown started roughly 15 days ago so I was interested to see that timeframe. The Brewers have 8 relative regulars that are hitting over 260 since then. Wong, Hiura, Adames, Urias, Garcia, Yelich, Taylor, and Peterson. Taylor and Peterson are kinda meh, not exactly regulars...but both are actually over 300 in the last 15 days. Notably absent from this list is Narvaez, and I'm just not that concerned about his bat considering his season so far. The Brewers are also middle of the pack in most general hitting stats as a team over the last 15 days, which if our pitching remains as is...that's plenty good especially considering all our injury issues.
  12. Garcia is slashing 233/302/430 over the last 30 days. Not great, but not bad to the point you consider benching him for anyone from the minors barring a Kelenic type talent or a massive trade acquisition
  13. Drama in Washington.....
  14. I swear in football guys often enough dislocate a shoulder and find their way back in the game. I suppose they don't need nearly that level of precision to swing a bat and hit a baseball. It just kinda floors me that a dislocated shoulder is 3-4 months. If that timeline is accurate, there's no way we'd have him get meaningful at bats in September or later. He's done this year.
  15. It is actually closer than you'd think because the Reds have a fair amount of black holes themselves. Farmer, Suarez, and Akiyama all hitting sub 210 and in the lineup today. Maybe the Reds are something like 20% better at hitting overall, but if you include defensive value...our position players are probably about evenly matched with the Reds.
  16. As much as I think Yelich is going to bounce back to form in the near future, right now I would take Winker by a country mile over Yelich. Winker is an mvp candidate while Yelich is currently mediocre at best when healthy.
  17. Supposedly they are already doing this and nothing has come from it. Yet... I know MLB is getting their hands on balls used by every pitcher and evaluating them. But how often does a pitcher put a ball in the dirt and the ump gets their hands on said ball? It sounds like the sticky stuff problem is so blatant and obvious that these umps all know whats going on, and will be able to tell if there's a problem the instant they touch a baseball. It'll certainly be an interesting few weeks to see if offense picks up, if some suspensions start happening, if pitchers start coming up with creative ways to continue to use the sticky stuff.
  18. Not to nitpick, but I assume you mean among relievers? I would expect hader to be pushed a little harder starting in August or September, but no reason to burn the guy out in June.
  19. 19-8, keep your brooms handy...
  20. the only Brewers hitters that even have a shot at AS game are Narvaez and Houser.
  21. Fair enough. I hope Rasmussen and JP do well, but Adames has a Yelich-esque breakout that makes this trade look like an absolute steal...
  22. This, or inevitably the Mike Fiers in the Brewers bullpen comes forward and rats the whole thing out.
  23. I saw a side by side of 2 pitches thrown to ohtani, one was around shoulder height while the other was ankle height...apparently both were hr. I'll edit my post and add the link if I can find it tomorrow. The guy is a walking cheat code.
  24. I see your point and I guess I'm not suggesting we eliminate them completely. But the case you are talking about is extreme. Most ejections come from a couple words, a thrown bat, some other version of petty crap. The whole going on and on for 2-3 minutes usually happens after a player or manager gets tossed. And how often do you see umps follow a pissed off hitter to the dugout just hoping he'll say the wrong thing? These guys have too much power and I'm sick of it. I like the idea of a warning system. I also like the idea of each warning coming with a small fine that gets donated by the league to charity. That's just so much better than having a star player get ejected in the 4th inning for telling the ump he's wrong, especially considering a fair amount of the time the ump is in fact wrong in those cases.
