  1. I'll second, great post. I'll add that even before his outrage, I found Booger to be pretty bad. He doesn't seem to know football as well as an announcer should. The play by play guy also seemed very mediocre but not as noticable. So yeah ESPN should probably find better talent. I've literally never seen an announcer that should be unbiased react in such a way. It's one thing if Bill Schroeder calls out an umpire, it's quite another to have this happen on a national broadcast.
  2. I honestly cannot stand the justification that the Lions missed opportunities and blew the game themselves. Both these teams are really good, one or two bad calls can and did swing the outcome. No different than in baseball, the ump incorrectly calling a 2-1 pitch can definitely swing the outcome of the atbat and even the game. To not blame the officiating here...that's the type of thing the Lions coach will tell his players to get them not to dwell on it and try harder next time...but it's simply not reality and is just a horrible horrible take. Probably one of the worst takes I've seen on these boards in a while...and I just got done thoroughly reading through clancy's offseason plan for the brewers.

  4. This is where I'm at with those calls. I noticed exactly this live when I was looking for justification...his hand was up there for a split second at most. Similar to if a tackler brushes his hand across a ball carriers facemask...by the letter of the law it's a penalty but really shouldn't be called. If they called every little nitpicky thing, there'd be a flag every play and that's no fun. And that was only one of the two bad hands to the face penalties. The other one there was nothing. The only way we have any justification is if it's illegal to grab the inside of a guys shoulder pad. I'm no rule expert, but I highly doubt doing so is a penalty. We got lucky, I would be absolutely livid if I was a Lions fan right now. The Packers have 3 legit wins and 2 ref aided wins this year, facts are 5-1 though. The Lazard catch, that pylon cam shows his knee hit at the half yardline or whatever...but I wasn't 100% sure he had control of the ball until he was in the end zone. It looked like he bobbled it a bit after he hit the ground...but the ball never hit the ground so it's whatever. I don't see any way that was getting overturned...and that's not the story of the game anyway. It's those 2 "penalties".
  5. The Yelich trade and potential Hader trade are different for so many reasons. For starters, Lux probably has just as high a ceiling as Brinson with a much much higher floor...because he doesn't have nearly as much swing and miss in his game. Lux is more like Hiura, where is would be weird if he wasn't at minimum a solid 1st division regular with MVP potential. Also pre-MVP Yelich still had more value than Hader. Yelich still had upside and was an everyday player while Hader is inevitably going to provide less value out of the pen. I'll also add, as much as I'm a huge Hader fan...I am a bit concerned that people are figuring out how to deal with his filthy belt high fastball. In a few key spots, guys put really good swings on the pitch and hit key HR. And any misses low in the zone get bombed as well. Information gets around quickly in this league, and the hitters are too good to let a one trick pony continue to devastate them. I think we're quickly reaching a point where Hader needs to add something to get hitters out. Find somewhere else effective to locate his FB, more sliders, develop the changeup...something. He has so much arm talent, it's certainly feasible. Hopefully he goes into the offseason knowing that...spending an offseason training with Jimmy Nelson would do him wonders. That turned into a bit of a tangent, but primary point is it might not be a terrible time to sell high on him.
  6. One argument for the Dodgers opening up their farm system...they are simply better than all but maybe 2 or 3 other teams at developing hitters. It seems every deadline they trade away a top prospect and have 2-3 more studs develop out of nowhere just like Lux. If they are confident they can keep developing star hitters, makes sense to trade some of these hitters for established talent they've been less successful at developing. I'll add that as much as I think said trade would be Lux+, I don't think it would be as crazy as Lux + Smith. We'd have to send something else back to get both guys, something significant. I don't know what to be honest and don't want to speculate on that. More likely would be getting Lux and maybe a lesser relief arm, or a 50/55 prospect with some upside. To your specific note above that I've bolded, it's crazy for the Dodgers in their situation to not win a WS. There's plenty of space between what the Cubs did with Chapman, and marginally overpaying for a specific area of need.
  7. We really need Alexander to not have another off game today. He got roasted pretty badly by Cooper last week, I don't want the same thing happening tonight with Golladay. His instincts are incredible, but he got caught with his eyes on the backfield far too often last week. That's my biggest concern this week. I'm expecting the Lions to do little to nothing on offense unless Golladay just wrecks us...which if so would force us to adapt and probably open up other avenues of offense...but I think it all starts with Golladay. I'm thinking something like 23-13 Packers...not a lot of scoring on either side.
  8. He still has value for his youth/pedigree/defense. Not massive value, but we could get something for him.
  9. I think many are underestimating Lux a bit here. This guy is only 20, even if he moves to 2b...think Robbie Cano. It honestly wouldn't shock me if the Brewers traded Hader to the Dodgers. The Dodgers tried so hard to get Vazquez but couldn't swing it(and now he's 1000000% off the table). Hader is a very logical target for them, and they certainly have the prospects to get him. Hader to the Dodgers probably involves Lux+ coming here despite Lux probably having more value at this point...but highly unlikely said trade includes Braun. He's here to stay. Lux would play SS if he came here and we'd have Arcia as a trade chip to bring back something else.
  10. We only saw it for half a season and Greinke has been iffy (but he's the Thor match, who is also up-and-down), but what about the current Astros rotation? It's probably the next best example. Miley/Greinke probably aren't quite as good as any of the 4 phillies or Thor/Stroman. It's generally close but not quite as good. Cole/Verlander are probably comparable and maybe slightly better than Halladay/Lee. Regardless...another good example.
  11. I don't think it happens, but wow that would be an incredibly terrifying rotation. I can't think of a better rotation in recent memory. Maybe the Hamels, Lee, Halladay, and Oswalt from the Phillies comes close.
  12. Sadly, I agree, however, I think there is a chance the Astros keep him. Please, please, don't let him go to the Cubs or Cardinals. Lol, I don't think either team has the payroll to afford Cole. When is the last time a guy won the Cy young in his walk year in his late 20s? You can look at Verlander, Degrom, and Sale extensions...and assume Cole is going to do better in both years and AAV than all of them. My guess is 6/200 for Cole.
  13. What yard line was it? I mean even without the TO, Brady has plenty of time to do whatever he needs to do. The TO was in case Jones needed it going the other way. This one isn't as blatantly stupid as some, but I tend to lean toward it being better to get the ball back and run out of time than them get the 1st and you potentially give them more time. In this case, it probably doesn't matter. That TO probably was helpful for the Patriots in calling a more effective play. I've been saying for years now, every NFL coach needs a 17 year old kid that's played 10,000 games of madden standing next to them on the sideline for clock management advice. Andy Reid probably needs 2. Those 17 year old kids have literally seen every situation dozens of times and would know exactly what to do. I haven't even played THAT much madden, but I feel like I can almost always figure out how to optimally use your timeouts or when to kick a FG if you need 2 score...all that stuff...and coaches consistently bungle those decisions.
  14. This was my immediate thought too. I doubt Jones is going to buckle down on the rule book and figure that out if he didn't know already. Regardless, the flag/fine are legit enough.
  15. i locked in 22-1 odds on the packers before the season started. I'm having a hard time coming up with a better NFC option to make the superbowl. 49ers? Eagles? Maybe Saints if Brees comes back ok? Obviously even if they make it, they'll have to beat probably the Patriots...possibly the Chiefs. They certainly wouldn't be a favorite in either circumstance. I still feel good about locking in those odds. I've seen them fluctuate between 14 and 16 to 1 since
  16. Those are good numbers to look at, but those are also a few years old. He'd be completely justified aiming higher. His ratios are off the charts for a reliever. Based on these numbers, I'd be surprised if Hader got less than 6 this year.
  17. Zach Davies is going into his age 27 season. Why in the world would you "think he's done being a sub 4 era starter" besides just not liking the guy? You need to expand on this idea a bit, because I'm just not seeing it. Davies is never going to be a Cy Young-type, but I see no reason why can can't continue to be a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter. The amount of crap he takes around here, simply because he's not throwing his fastball in the upper 90s, is pretty astounding to me. This year, Davies was basically a 2 pitch pitcher. For me, sinker/cutter and changeup are basically 2 pitches...sinker and cutter aren't different enough at the speed he throws to really fool anyone...plus he only threw the cutter 11%. Generally, 2 pitch starters are not successful. There are exceptions, those exceptions usually have 2 plus pitches...while Davies has a plus change/command with far below average everything else. Also, through the year...the spin rate on all of Davies pitches decreased pretty steadily. As it did, his results went with it. Which tells me he either wore down or was pitching through an injury. If you also factor in the arms we have available and the upside we have available, keeping someone like Davies seems just crazy to me. We have Woodruff, Suter, Houser that we can basically lock into the rotation along with a ton of options to compete for rotation spots. And I know people want to bring back Lyles if possible, which would be a 4th spot gone.
  18. I don't see any incentive on Nelson's part to agree to a club option. He's already 30 and inching closer to where free agents don't get multi-year guarantees. Second, he has missed nearly two years with injuries. With huge financial consequences, I'd assume he is going to want to bet on himself in hopes of cashing in on a strong 2020 season. If the Brewers don't tender him, I'm almost certain he'd choose to go to a team where he has a clear shot to make the rotation (not necessarily the case with Milwaukee if he took a NRI). Funny thing about Nelson, I was convinced he was finished as a Brewer, then there was that last appearance against Colorado wherein he looked dominant: mid-90s fastball, struck out four of the six hitters he faced. Its the ultimate small sample, but I'd almost be tempted to take a 3.7 million dollar gamble. I'm not entirely certain he'd get a major league deal elsewhere after 2+ lost seasons. A club option is a big benefit to us taking the risk giving guaranteed money. He might get a chance with a team like the marlins or orioles, if he wants to try and play on a losing team that will probably be bad defensively behind him. Offering him $2.5m this year with a $7m option and $1m buyout for 2021 would be a pretty good offer. In fairness, Nelson's market is pretty tough to gauge in his situation...30 years old, 2 years from pitching effectively, but still showing promise. I do hope we find a way to keep him and love the idea of a contract with an option year.
  19. For these contracts, be sure to keep in mind that even if a player doesn't fit...we can trade said player if they have surplus value. This is how I'm personally viewing Davies. I think he's done being a sub 4 era starter, and I don't find a ton of value in SP with a low-mid 4s ceiling. I think his contract is tradable to plenty of teams, I think we'll have enough SP options that we don't need to keep him. I'll also add Claudio at $2.2M is almost certain to be kept. With Nelson, I wonder if we get him to agree to a deal with an option year before the arbitration deadline. So if he does bounce back to form, we get a cost controlled year of a potentially very valuable player.
  20. I just today got my extra purchases for WC/DS. I paid my strip in full, so I'm guessing they won't bother asking how I want my refund and will simply send it all back to my card. I would have been absolutely shocked if they waited until the WS. I figured to expect the rest of mine by end of next week i guess.
  21. This is my situation. I'm surprised people are getting refunds already, because I thought I remember them not initiating any refunds until 10 days after a game is NOT played...with credits taking 5 additional days to get processed by CC company. I of course could be wrong, I didn't look closely this year. I know I didn't get a refund for my extra WC or DS tickets, and also didn't get a refund for my playoff strip through my 20 pack. I'm not really expecting any of it for at least a week or two(which frankly is embarrassing on the part of the Brewers in this day and age, but that's a separate discussion).
  22. I remember 10 business days last year, which then take 3-5 days to actually hit your account. I'm expecting my refund to hit 10/22 or 10/23, with the AMEX crowd getting them 10/18 or 10/21.
  23. I'm going to nitpick on one small thing. I'm sure others will chime in quite a bit on other stuff, but I have to think virtually zero chance Faria gets non-tendered. He's cheap, team controlled, and has a really good arm. This also qualifies as pulling an arm out of an organization at the very top of development...we should also be able to get some significant insights into how the Rays develop their players, particularly their pitchers. Admittedly, not sure what his option situation is.
  24. I got a bit annoyed with all the backhanded comments they'd make towards anything good the packers did, more specifically Aikman. I remember one completion to either Tonyan or Graham for at least 20 yards, where Aikman goes "actually rodgers made a mistake, he had Allison for a touchdown"...something like that. And usually when a team is getting a beat down, the announcers spend all the time talking about the team winning. What they are doing right, etc. In this case, all Aikman could talk about is the corrections Dallas needed to make to get back in the game. Aikman was really bad yesterday. Buck seemed much more neutral yesterday, but both guys have had a tendency to generally be anti-Packers. I've never seen either guy be as bad as Aikman was yesterday though...probably due to him being the old Dallas qb.
  25. The next 5 games of the schedule aren't as tough as the first 5 games. Carolina, Detroit and Oakland are middle of the pack teams. SD is talented, and the Chiefs are obviously very good. Why can't we have a stretch like the Patriots? Where they played Buffalo(4-1, and who they barely beat after knocking out Josh Allen on a cheap shot) and 4 other teams with a combined 1-19 record. Yet somehow 12 of the 16 teams we play this year are currently above 500, and LAC will probably be over 500 by the time this season is over.
