  1. This is my guess as well. If by some miracle, the evidence falls apart and he escapes serious criminal charges...that won't be enough. I think teams would opt to not sign this guy, can't imagine an agent needing the money that bad to want to represent him. It would take some sort of massive retraction from the police department saying they had it all wrong(which won't happen), for him to have any chance to pitch again.
  2. I wonder if we finally see someone else catch tonight. Grandal has now caught 12 straight games, and we have 6 more games before our next offday. Even if it has to be Nottingham, at some point we need to put someone else in there right? Grisham(might flip with Cain) Cain Moose Braun Thames Spang C(not Grandal) Arcia P
  3. I kinda want to buy a kyle crick jersey right now...
  4. There are way too many details and way too much of a smoking gun to think he's 100% innocent. Dude was legit arrested and booked. I tend to lean pretty heavily on the side of letting players play when it comes to off field stuff...but for me, this is one of those things that I can completely understand never letting him play in MLB again...if true of course.
  5. Keston did jog off the field after reaching on Sunday. So at least there's that. I tend to agree I think we'd definitely see him on Thursday if he's able...but like you said, with Spang looking pretty good the last few days I would understand giving it a couple extra days...though if I planned to start him Thursday I would probably have him PH both of the next 2 days.
  6. I tend to agree with above. We definitely need to temper expectations for Woodruff. My guess is his pitch count will be in the 50 range, and who knows how sharp or effective he'll be after so much time off.
  7. Yeah the Mets/Dbacks/Phillies pretty much need to win out at this point to have a chance. And even then they need multiple teams to play sub-500 ball to pass anybody. Also just a reminder that we are also rooting for the Indians. We want them to stay relevant for that last Nationals series.
  8. I'm struggling to figure out why Paddack has been so effective. He's basically fastball/changeup with about 10% curveballs sprinkled in. He doesn't have a fancy gameplan by any means...high fastballs, low changeups. Against basically a 2 pitch guy, you just sit on your preferred pitch until 2 strikes. Very easy to say from behind a computer screen of course, but I feel like we should do just fine against this guy despite his recent success.
  9. I love when they do this and would like to see it more often. Now is the perfect time of year to play this type of baseball. I wouldn't be surprised if our starters only pitch 3-5 innings from here on out, unless of course X starter is just wrecking hitters. But we have enough long relief and overall pitching options to shorten starts and have an extra AB of a 600-800 OPS hitter vs a 300 OPS hitting pitcher.
  10. How far back does the count data go? I thought it was only through the 80s around where your results stop. This was posted by baseball reference. See below their tweet for limitations. 5th in the last 30 years is still pretty cool, but yeah there probably were at least a few more instances we aren't aware of. I'm pretty sure there's at least 1 in particular that comes to mind for most baseball fans.
  11. Not exactly a milestone, but I saw this and thought it worth posting. https://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.fcgi?id=hU5NN
  12. Even in a best case scenario, there's no way he can take the boot off in 5 days and play full games of baseball immediately after, is there? Unless he's the biggest baby in the world(which I don't think he is)...he definitely has worse than the mild sprains/rolls that you can shake off in a few days and be fine. After what I saw, if he's a really tough dude, maybe he gets a couple PH appearances over the last 3-5 games of the season. I sprained my ankle pretty badly a few years back playing basketball. My reaction was about the same as his reaction, so I'm kinda assuming his was either as bad as mine or worse. It took about a week until I could walk normally without crutches. I sat out from basketball for 3 weeks and played very carefully with a brace after that. I was able to cut and do everything I needed to, but I also was careful to not barrel into traffic or jump for contested rebounds(which is how I rolled it). Obviously he's going to get better treatment than my "just ice it and stay off it"...but tough to imagine him playing full games in less than 2 weeks. It really wouldn't shock me though if they took the boot off and he was able to PH very shortly after...and have someone run for him. It is September after all.
  13. Richards has historically had reverse splits actually. I wouldn't be overly concerned about splits in this case though, I would try to stagger RH and LH and play my best bats. Grisham Grandal Moose Braun Thames Cain Spang Arcia P If Hiura is available, probably bat him 6th with Cain 7th and Arcia 8th. If Cain isn't available, Gamel takes his spot batting 6th with a plan to PH Austin for Thames later.
  14. I'm not overly surprised by a 7-6 projection. I think 8-5 is moreso the likely outcome based on matchups. But if you look at the teams on paper...especially with no yelich...we are by no means a far superior team to anyone we face down the stretch. The Brewers played way way way over their heads the last 10 days. It certainly can continue, but it's not safe to project that.
  15. My parents are big poto people. They received an offer for 4 tickets to any Brewers game for free, just have to pay the $3 order processing fee. I wouldn't doubt they are doing other similar giveaways or finding ways to get butts in the seats. For that among competition related reasons, I think it will be pretty busy this week.
  16. I wouldn't get too carried away by the recent winning from the Cubs/Brewers. The Reds are a much tougher team than the Pirates right now. Reds are 7-8 this month, and they've played relatively tough teams almost every series. I would be very surprised if the Cubs swept the Reds. That said, I've personally been saying 88 for about a month now and I think 88 is a pretty safe number. At this point, I think 90 gets us the division. A lot of ways to go 8-5. Much tougher to go 10-3 unless we can get 5-6 wins this week.
  17. Actually it looks like the NL is inexplicably first. Seems stupid considering we were first last year. Not to get too off-topic here...but completely agree, I think if we get a lead through 7...it's Hader to finish. I also doubt we would ever let a pitcher bat, maybe once if Lyles or Houser is particularly effective. I'm imagining something like Lyles, Woodruff, Houser, Pomeranz, Hader as the 5 guys we use to try and get through any wildcard game. The most fun part, is I would almost guarantee that Tyrone Taylor is on a wildcard roster...since we'll probably only carry 8-9 pitchers for a one off and his speed/defense would have value.
  18. Garrett Richards, if I remember correctly, has always had absolutely wicked stuff...but has struggled staying healthy. I definitely am a bit concerned. A little browsing and I found he'll be limited to a 60-65 inning pitch count. I honestly doubt they let him go over 4 innings even if he's super effective. Below is a link to his milb stats over the last 2 months. Very meh stats at pretty low levels...despite all that, don't sleep on this guy. He's definitely capable of having a good outing against us. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=572070#/career/R/pitching/2019/ALL
  19. I took a look at more realistic scenarios for this week. Cards go 1-2 against the Nationals and 2-2 against the Cubs. Cubs go 2-1 against the Res and 2-2 against the Cards Nationals go 2-1 against the Cards and 3-0 against the Marlins. Brewers to 3-1 against the Padres and 2-1 against the Pirates. Records would be... Cards 86-70 Cubs 85-71 Crew 85-71 Nats 87-67 This is probably the best realistic case scenario for us winning the division. If our primary goal is a playoff spot, the Cards getting bulldozed by the Cubs/Nats and only winning 1 or 2 games all week is probably best.
  20. One small sidenote, it is weirdly important that the Indians stay relevant. The Indians play the Phillies and the Nationals over their last 4 series. Currently the Indians are 4.5 back of the division and 1.5 back of the wildcard. They also play the Nationals last, so bottom line is we are rooting for the Indians the whole way. We want them to stay relevant to the final game.
  21. I tend to agree, aim for the division with our cheering, we are rooting for the Nationals. If we take care of business on our end, we could head into the weekend with only 1 or 2 games separating all 3 teams. I'm expecting a pretty wild finish.
  22. Ehh, I tend to disagree with this I think. Key is, we need Hader to be effective. If we pitch Hader 5 times a week and it doesn't cause injury...who cares...if it results in him being less effective and getting shelled twice. I don't mind bumping his usage a little bit incrementally down the stretch here, but we definitely don't want to push him to the point where he's worn down and needs 3-5 days off to recuperate. That's Joe Maddon managing, and is how you end up with a bullpen full of worn/tired/trash relievers by mid-August. For the current situation, I would consider Hader off limits today...and hope to not use him tomorrow. If we have a 3 run lead in the 9th tomorrow...I'd probably let Pomeranz or Guerra try finishing it, and have Hader start loosening up if we allow one or two baserunners. A 1 or 2 run lead, or a critical spot in the 7th or 8th inning...I think I wouldn't hesitate going with Hader on Tuesday.
  23. Oh for sure. Braun had a hbp coming in 2020 for that. Molina will probably get a call and lecture from larussa about this.
  24. The cards call: https://streamable.com/7u4yq I didn't really find that to be an overly bad or biased call. You can hear the disappointment in their voices, but can you really blame them? I did thoroughly enjoy their disappointment though.
  25. Man bryant is super locked in right now. Everytime i tune in to a cubs game, it seems he hits at least 1 dinger
