  1. I just saw the replay of the Cruz play. You can barely call that a slide it was so late. He looked more like he was aiming for the catcher than the plate. IMHO, if he had slid to the back side of the plate (either head first or feet first) with the high throw he could have scored without colliding with the catcher. I can see why the catcher was upset
  2. Always nice to win a series from the Evil Redbirds. Today it was the grizzled veterans providing most of the offense.
  3. Brilliant strategy, setting it up so that Goldschmidt and Arenado will not be the tying runs at the plate
  4. I hope he gets a chance for one today. The lead may not survive this inning.
  5. 62.5% of Brewers games so far this season have been shutouts.
  6. I remember being at a game opening weekend in 2019 and a Cardinal fan sitting near us was complaining about the Cardinals acquiring Goldschmidt because they already had a good young one who wouldn’t cost anywhere near as much. He was talking about Luke Voit. I wonder if that guy still thinks Goldschmidt was a bad acquisition.
  7. He hasn’t been hitting much yet either. A few singles and a lot of Ks.
  8. Steele completely shut down the Brewers offense and Montgomery is well on his way to doing the same thing. They did get to Peterson. Until shown otherwise, though, lefty starters continue to look like a weak spot for the Brewers offense.
  9. Unfortunately, so do they. This is one of those 50 or so games that you just lose and move on, not one of the 60 you fight over.
  10. Unfortunately in his outing against the Cubs it moved out of the strike zone.
  11. I think we’re going to see a few innings of Javy Guerra taking one for the team tonight.
  12. On the other hand, the Brewers offense is trying to get the game back on pace.
  13. Lauer is doing his best to turn this into an old fashioned 3 1/2 hour game.
  14. Shoddy defense costs 2 runs. Adames with the low throw, Voit failing to make the pick, and Wiemer’s poor throw all contributed.
  15. But they’re only 1 game ahead of those pesky Pirates. 😀
  16. This is a situation that always makes me a little uneasy. I get trying to finish off the game without using Williams. But if Wilson runs into immediate trouble, they can’t bring in Williams until he’s faced 3 batters. Worst case scenario: Wilson doesn’t retire anyone and Williams comes in with nobody out, the tying run at the plate, and the top of the Cardinals order coming up. I don’t want to see Goldschmidt again until tomorrow.
  17. You seem to be concerned that not getting 2 more outs from Woodruff tonight is going to unravel the next two weeks. There are a lot of “what ifs” that could happen and Counsell will deal with them as they come up. There are 8 guys in the bullpen. If they’re all dead in 4 days things have gone seriously wrong.
  18. The faster they come in, the faster they go out.
  19. There’s always the opportunity to bring in fresh arms from the minors if needed. Woodruff likely wasn’t going any further than finishing the 6th anyway, so the extra strain on the bullpen is minimal.
  20. It definitely is an RBI. That AB went sideways with the 2 low “strikes” that got him behind in the count.
  21. Assuming Woodruff didn’t have a physical reason to leave, I wonder if removing him that quickly has to do with this being the first of 13 games without an off day. If they don’t want to use 6 starters they can’t afford to have any of the starters go too deep now if they are going to come back in 5 days this early in the season.
  22. Seeing their runs allowed you’d think they were lucky to win 2.
  23. How many Brewers prospects in the last 10 years have come up and raked?
  24. That option was obviously a joke, but I’m sensing a lot of people really are ready to change what they expected before the season started.
