  1. Gotta love relievers who come in with a comfortable leading immediately start walking hitters.
  2. Really not unusual when the runner on second has a good look at the ball and the runner on third is tagging up to make sure it isn’t going to be caught and wants to able to score if it is.
  3. That was my preseason prediction. Battling with the Brewers for second place in the division.
  4. Running on contact with nobody out and no DP in order makes little sense.
  5. I always pay attention to other games. It’s pretty easy to follow multiple games at the same time and it helps fill the dead time.
  6. Brewers fans are no better these days.
  7. Who strapped the piano on Winker’s back?
  8. Cardinals have 3 first inning HRs and 4 runs.
  9. Who’s the first long reliever out of the bullpen? Lauer is throwing BP.
  10. Now we get to see what the revamped bullpen can do when the opponent has to score.
  11. It’s sad that Yelich has become a guy you don’t want up in this situation.
  12. Only getting two runs in this situation will be a failure with the top of the order up. Only getting one would be a momentum changer in the Cubs favor.
  13. This is a point that I made several times last year and will probably be making many times this year. The Brewers are presenting themselves as a team that can make the playoffs (not just be contenders). Evaluated that way, being in the middle of the pack puts the team in a hole relative to the teams that are the top playoff contenders. Also, the Brewers offense last year had the advantage of playing 57 games against 3 of the worst pitching teams in the league, and they fattened their offensive stats against those teams more than the playoff teams did in their games against bad teams. They won’t have that advantage this year with teams playing more even schedules.
  14. How many third strikes was Bellinger going to take?
  15. I keep forgetting that with the expanded playoffs anyone near .500 is a playoff CONTENDER even if they don’t make the playoffs. So, I will amend my statement to “the rookies will have to be good or the Brewers are going to struggle to finish above .500.”
  16. In other words, it isn’t that pessimistic to think that the rookies (who are going to get even more playing time than expected) are going to have to be good for the Brewers to make the playoffs. The projections I’ve seen have the Brewers at about 85 or 86 wins. My expectation is a little lower than that.
  17. LOL, it depends on what you think their playoff chances are in the first place.
  18. So, Urias is out for 6-8 weeks. These rookies are going to have to be good for the Brewers to finish .500, much less be playoff contenders.
  19. It probably would be better for the Brewers if the game is postponed. If the weather is anything like it is here, and if Woodruff can’t handle the cold, any better than he did last year, the odds are not in the Brewers favor.
  20. Maybe you can have that feeling another day.
  21. 4 hits and 12 Ks. That seems about par for the course.
