  1. To put numbers on it the Brewers have now played 42 of their 63 scheduled games against the Pirates, Cubs, Reds and Nats. The Cardinals have played 24. For the Brewers to hang on to the division lead they’re going to have to start winning more than half their games because hoping for the Cardinals to lose isn’t going to work forever.
  2. This week the Cardinals went 2-5 in 4 road games against the Braves and 3 home games against the Phillies. The Brewers went 2-4 in home games against the Cubs and Pirates. I know which I think is more damaging.
  3. I remember when we used to relish getting into the bullpens of teams like the Cubs and Pirates. But they have done a better job than the Brewers pen this week.
  4. It wouldn’t be the same ump. They rotate around the bases (I think clockwise) so the third base ump yesterday would be at second today and that call would be made by the first base ump.
  5. One thing the Brewers have managed to do this week is reduce the gap between their scoring average against bad teams and the average against good teams.
  6. The bullpen is responsible for a few of those holes in the dike. Especially when the bullpen is called on early more often than not.
  7. If the prospect of Tatis returning comes along with the Padres offense I would take them too. He has more potential to be a difference maker than Renfroe or Taylor.
  8. It was too dark for me to tell. That was probably one where the call on the field decided it. Brewers might have gotten a break.
  9. At least Lauer made it through 5 without completely putting the team out of the game. But it’s hard to ignore that the team as currently structured is not the team we were hoping to see at the start of the season or, for that matter, at the end of May when they hit the high water mark over .500 for the season. There are a lot of fingers in the dike and it may be hard to keep the water out.
  10. The game is almost 40 minutes old and the Brewers have been up for about 4 of them.
  11. Maybe he can do that in the third inning if he’s still in. Over 50 pitches to get through 2 means it will be a long day for the bullpen. Might be seeing both Gonzalez and Alexander if they’re still on the roster.
  12. Lauer might have had time to sit down before the Brewers sent him back out for the second.
  13. A very disheartening game. Games like today’s, and several others the last few weeks, highlight how fragile the Brewers winning formula is. The depth in the starting rotation has been compromised, the bullpen is leaking oil, and the offense is simply not scoring enough. Losing games when the ace starters deliver 6 or 7 shutout innings can’t happen very often, but the offense is giving them and the bullpen virtually no margin for error. When the point was made on Sunday that the Brewers can’t score 5 runs every game, I didn’t think that meant that they couldn’t score 5 runs in ANY game (at least not without a free baserunner and an intentional walk to prime the pump). Since the 19 run outburst against the Pirates the Brewers have scored 19 runs total in regulation in the next 7 games. It’s hard to predict what direction this team is going. I think everyone looked at these 10 games against the Pirates and Cubs as an opportunity to rack up 6-7 wins or more. Now they need a win tomorrow just to split them. Then they face a tough 6 game road trip before the ASG.
  14. The fact that Counsell was having trouble watching the last two innings as he paced and occasionally walked into the clubhouse walkway should tell you how tense the ending was.
  15. Going to the game but with family members and probably won’t be able to stop by.
  16. Yelich 7 Adames 6 Tellez 3 McCutchen 8 Wong 4 Urias 5 Narvaez 2 Hiura DH Peterson 9
  17. Nothing new here. Where we seem to differ is that I have hoped for the Brewers to be in a better position than “not impossible” to win a playoff series against the better teams in the league. I have never said that it was impossible, which is why I object to the characterization of “dumpster fire with no hope of doing anything in the playoffs.” That is not and has never been my opinion, and I think you and the rest of your cohorts who like to complain about some others not living up to your standards of optimism know that. BTW, do you think this article is too pessimistic about the Brewers offense?
  18. I have made my opinion about the Brewers offense very clear (particularly in the "2022 Brewers Offense" thread). and it is not that the offense is a "lost cause dumpster fire and that the team has no hope of doing anything in the playoffs". So, when someone disagrees with my opinion by responding directly to me, that isn't the position they are disagreeing with. I'm not sure that anyone has used the exact words "the offense is just fine", but when I hear people telling me that the Brewers offense is in the same tier with teams like the Braves, Phillies, Giants, and Padres, and that the Brewers have "enough" offense because of their elite pitching, that sounds like someone telling me that the offense is "just fine" as is. Same when I am told that the offense will be OK when all of the injured players are back in action. I think the Brewers offensive deficiencies are not solved with just players on the current roster returning from injury. These exchanges can all be reviewed in the "2022 Brewer Offense" thread. There are other examples there of posters using advanced stats attempting to refute my opinion about the Brewers offense. My opinion might prove to be too pessimistic, but suggesting that I have said that the Brewers have no hope of doing anything in the playoffs is flat out wrong. Maybe instead of responding to me, you should address the author of this article and tell him that he is too pessimistic. His conclusion is, if anything, even more pessimistic than mine, but he uses some of the advanced statistics that some posters seem to think is a prerequisite for a valid opinion.

  20. Ah, I thought you were referring to the playoffs. That’s what I usually think of when people talk about baseball in October.
  21. Apparently you don’t completely agree with the posters on the forum who are committed to using advanced stats to try convince others that the Brewers offense is just fine.
